VS 2008 - Error Shown On Customers Machines Is Related To Framework Version?

Jan 12, 2011

I made a program a month ago and i gave it to the customers.recently they report some bugs and i fixed them. when i send the new version installer to them, they have some problems running it.i used vs 2008 to write it, but i removed vs 2008 and installed vs 2010 last week. when i opened my project to start fixing program bugs it asked for convert wizard so i did it.i made changes and build it. i use installshield and i add framework 3.5 Sp1 as prerequisites.
note : i was using inno setup first time. so i changed the installer too.so i tried installing the program on my machine.i just noticed that i have only .net framework 4 installed my own system. so i have no idea how the program runs without any problems on my own system. i have even tried installing it on another machine who had framework 3.5. it it work on that too.the error shown on customers machines is related to framework version. everytime i send them a new version they have some problem installing/running it.

.NET 4.0 Framework Dynamic Features In VB With Option Strict On?

Jul 22, 2010

Is there any way to use the new dynamic features in the 4.0 framework like ExpandoObject in VB.NET without setting Option Strict Off? With C#, you lose type safety only with the variables you specifically declare as dynamic. But with VB, the only way I've found to use these features is with the old Option Strict Off trick that's been in VB.NET since the beginning. Without Option Strict, everything in the file is polluted with fuzzy typing like so:

Option Explicit On
Option Strict Off
Option Infer On

[code]....

what's the best way to still use things like ExpandoObject and mitigate the risk of losing all type safety? Partial classes?

.net - Porting Crystal Reports Application (VB 2003, Framework 1.1)?

May 17, 2012

I've been asigned to a new project. I have to mantain an application wich was made in Visual Studio 2003 (VB.NET, Framework 1.1) and Crystal Reports wich came included with the IDE. The application is absolutely what we call "legacy code" :).Just to make the test, today I've tried to convert the application in Visual Studio 2010. The converter is offering me download SAP Crystal Reports, with no cost and no registration. The question is: Does anybody has experience with this components?. Is feasible to migrate an application as described to VS 2010?

2003 Upgrading To 2008, Implement The New Data Features In An Application?

Dec 17, 2008

I am upgrading from Visual Studio 2003 to Visual Studio 2008. ow I should upgrade my project. My project is in Visual Basic.Net, and using an Access 2003 Database. I have four datasets, MainDataSet (for the main data tables) LookupDataSet (for lookup tables States, Countries, Colors, etc) OneFormDataSet (data used on only one form) and ReportsDataSet (data used for reports).I have one form "OleDbAdpatForm.vb", that has all the OleDbDataAdpaters for my project. It also has the DataSets and the OleDbConnection.I have public functions that enable me to load the data tables.

I have a LoadTable function when I can pass a column and a value, and the SQL select command is updated with a WHERE or HAVING, so only the requested data is selected. I also can pass the whole "WHERE ..." part of the SQL select command, so I can have multiple parameters in the SELECT command. On my other forms, I have copies of the DataSets, so I can design grids/controls. In the form_Load events, I manually bind the controls to DataSets and tables in located "OleDbAdpatForm.vb", so all forms are using the same data tables, and changes made to data in one form are reflected in data in other forms. The VS 2008's DataSources, BindingSources and TableAdapters seem much easier to use. how I should implement the new data features in my application?

Upgrading .Net Project From Framework 1.1 To Framework 4.0?

Feb 2, 2011

I have a solution that I wish to upgrade from Vb.net framework 1.1 to framework 4.0. The solution consists of a number of projects, all but one of which compile to dll's. The master project compiles to a executable which provides a menuing system which dynamically loads the dll's and connects to entry points.

The projects contain normal classes, numbers of forms and also controls, which are either usercontrols or are inherited extensions of standard windows controls. There are a number of third party components (eg reporting and grid controls from Component One, Ribbon control from DevExpress etc).

VS 2008 - Detecting .NET Framework Version

Jan 13, 2010

I need to detect if any version of the .NET framework is installed as we are deploying a .NET 2.0 app via logon script (ie XCOPY deployment) to all PCs in our network. The .NET app will be set to start when a user logs in, so we need to determine if .NET 2.0 (or higher) is installed before we deploy the app otherwise the user will get an error each time they log in. Is there any sure fire way to detect .NET via vbscript or batch file? All of the results I have found on google don't seem to be that reliable.

I have recently written a program that detects installed programs in the same way that Add/Remove Programs does but the problem with this is that even Add/Remove Programs does not seem to show the .NET framework on all PCs that have got it installed (like my home PC for example, definitely has .NET 3.5 installed but its not in the Add/Remove Programs list).

VS 2008 Changing The Target Framework?

Jan 26, 2011

I developed an app using the .net framework 3.5 sp1. I have now been told that the published version must not require sp1 but just the 3.5 framework.

So I uninstalled sp1 from my pc but not cannot publish the app. The app code will run without error but when I build it for publishing I get the error The "RequiresFramework35SP1Assembly" task was not found. Check the following: 1.) The name of the task in the project file is the same as the name of the task class. 2.) The task class is "public" and implements the Microsoft.Build.Framework.ITask interface. 3.) The task is correctly declared with <UsingTask> in the project file, or in the *.tasks files located in the "C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv3.5" directory.

Unit Testing Framework Timeouts In VB 2008?

Feb 19, 2009

I'm running some unit tests for a large VB.Net application I help maintain and am running into problems with tests timing out. The test run is set up so that there's no timeout limit on the overall test run, but a limit of 2 minutes per individual test. However, a couple of the tests take a lot longer than this to run, so we tried adding the timeout attribute to the test's declaration, i.e

<TestMethod(), Timeout(15 * 60 * 1000)> Public Sub DoSomething()

for a 15 minute timeout. However, the 2 minute timeout set in the test run properties seems to be taking precedence, even though it says that the timeout attribute should override it.

When you develop a class library that will be used by others, are there any guidelines on how you decide what namespace to put it under? I often find third party classes just use the company name as the root namespace but I was also wondering if it is frowned upon (or even possible) to add one of your own classes to an existing framework namespace.
