Feb 21, 2008I have upgraded an existing project to be developed on Visual Studio 2008 but I still need to target the .NET framework 2.0My project had the prerequisite Crystal Reports for .NET Framework 2.0 but Visual Studio 2008 reports that that "could not be found for bootstrapping"Now my users get the error:Could not load file or assembly 'CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine, Version=10.5.3700.0, ...' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

Jan 9, 2012I realize this post is rather long, but I wanted to give all the information up front instead of people having to ask me for more information.At the end of the re-installation of Visual Studio 2008, there is this message:
"Microsoft SQL Publishing Wizard: [2] Error: Installation failed for component Microsoft SQL Publishing Wizard. MSI returned error code 1638" in the log file dd_error_vs_procore_90.txt.
I have searched on Google for this whole message and found some references to this error, but I have done what they said worked for them and it did not fix the problem for me.When I searched for just "MSI returned error code 1638", I got that it cannot install something because it is already installed:"Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel".In Add/Remove Programs I see these two programs:
Microsoft SQL Server Database Publishing Wizard 1.3
Microsoft SQL Server Database Publishing Wizard 1.4
Are these programs/versions what the error is refering to? Am I safe to remove them and depend on the similarly-named item which would be newly installed with Visual Studio 2008 - "Microsoft SQL Publishing Wizard"? I still use SQL Server 2000 and 2005 on my computer, as well as 2008. I had installed VS 2008 on my computer before without this problem and also have VS 2005 and 2010.

Sep 28, 2011I'm using LINQ to compare two DataSets with each other to create new rows and update existing. I've noticed that the complete comparison lasts ~1,5 hours and only one of the two cores is busy(Task-Manager is 50-52% CPU Usage). I assume that it could increase performance significantly.

All I want to do is be able to access the Tags and Comments of an image file through my code. I've tried a bunch of different things but to no avail.

If text is cleared from the textbox, it should have 0 as value and 0.00 as displayed value. Also the number of digits in the textbox may vary accordingly. So how can it be done?

Jan 13, 2011The company has been using Visual Studio 2008 and .NET Framework 2.0 for approximately 2 years. During that time we released several versions (4.x.x) of our program to the public and were able to preserve the user's settings using My.Settings.Upgrade.During the past development cycle we upgraded the program to Visual Studio 2010 and .NET Framework 4.0 and changed the version to 5.x.x. Now, when a user upgrades from 4.x.x to 5.x.x they lose all of their settings.However, in all upgrades after that point (ie 5.0 to 5.1) all the user's settings are once again preserved.I checked C:Documents and Settings<USER_NAME>Local SettingsApplication DataCompanyName and it contains two directories:
ApplicationName_Url_aaa ApplicationName_Url_bbb
where aaa and bbb are 32 character strings. All of the user.config files for the 4.x.x releases can be found in the ApplicationName_ Url_aaa directory. All of the user.config files for the 5.x.x releases can be found in the ApplicationName_Url_bbb directory.Based on this information it seems like something changed when we converted our program to VS2010 and Framework4 that is now causing a different 32 character string to be generated. However, we have been unable to track it down.

Apr 15, 2011I'm calling the following method from a button click event to export a datatable to excel. After the export is completed, the excel application object is quit, released and assigned to nothing. But in reality it's not getting released and stays active unless the entire application is closed. So every time the button is clicked for export, a new excel application object keeps on running. The problem doesn't occur if two of the lines from the method below are not used. But I can't omit them as they are really needed. Check the * marked lines.

Jan 13, 2010I need to detect if any version of the .NET framework is installed as we are deploying a .NET 2.0 app via logon script (ie XCOPY deployment) to all PCs in our network. The .NET app will be set to start when a user logs in, so we need to determine if .NET 2.0 (or higher) is installed before we deploy the app otherwise the user will get an error each time they log in. Is there any sure fire way to detect .NET via vbscript or batch file? All of the results I have found on google don't seem to be that reliable.
I have recently written a program that detects installed programs in the same way that Add/Remove Programs does but the problem with this is that even Add/Remove Programs does not seem to show the .NET framework on all PCs that have got it installed (like my home PC for example, definitely has .NET 3.5 installed but its not in the Add/Remove Programs list).

Jan 26, 2011I developed an app using the .net framework 3.5 sp1. I have now been told that the published version must not require sp1 but just the 3.5 framework.
So I uninstalled sp1 from my pc but not cannot publish the app. The app code will run without error but when I build it for publishing I get the error The "RequiresFramework35SP1Assembly" task was not found. Check the following: 1.) The name of the task in the project file is the same as the name of the task class. 2.) The task class is "public" and implements the Microsoft.Build.Framework.ITask interface. 3.) The task is correctly declared with <UsingTask> in the project file, or in the *.tasks files located in the "C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv3.5" directory.
