I created a VB Console app and it defaulted to .NET 4 but I need it to be .NET 3.5. I've been looking but all the references I find say to change it on the 'Compile' tab in properties but I don't have a compile tab or anything else that lets me change the target framework.
Note: I'm using VS2010 Ultimate
I am attempting to write a program in Visual Basic Express 2010 that uses .NET Framework version 3.5 instead of 4. (The computers that I plan to use this program on only have .NET 3.5 SP1, and are painfully slow, so I don't want to upgrade them to .NET 4.)I have seen in the documentation that the Express edition does not have the option to change the target framework in the "New Project" dialog. View 1 RepliesI have an desktop application that references several dlls. All are targeted for .Net 3.5, x86. The applicaiton has been deployed for several years and was upgraded from visual studion 2008 to 2010 last year. I have made several changes to the app since then (as recently as last Thursday) with out any issues. Now, everything builds, but when I run the application, I get a type initialiazer error when one of the projects is loaded by the main application.
The error messsage is {"Could not load file or assembly 'System.Drawing, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.":"System.Drawing, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a"}.
There were no changes to this project since the last successfuly deployment last week, but today I am getting this error.
I am trying to run the following code (which I got from here). The code just creates a new "Output" pane in Visual Studio and writes a few lines to it.

Instead of running it as a Macro, I want to run it as an independent console application that connects to a currently running instance of Visual Studio 2010. I'm having a hard time figuring out how to set the value of dte. I think I may need to call GetActiveObject, but I'm not sure how.
I'm running Visual Studio 2010 with the Dot Net 4.0 Framework. I've been running around everywhere looking for the answer and haven't found anything. All I want to do is be able to access the Tags and Comments of an image file through my code. I've tried a bunch of different things but to no avail.

View 1 RepliesProblem: A 2 year old solution made in VS2010 with vb .net 2.0. We are going to convert it on 4.0. So, the question is how? On a C# solution is quite simple since there is the compile tab where you can change the target framework, but here on vb net i can't find it.

Well I used the Visual Studio 2010 installer to install my application and I want it to be able to change the version displayed in the in the Add/ Remove Programs (in the Control Panel). How can I do this without going through the install wizard again?

View 4 RepliesI've been working on a new application and realised that I want the target framework to be 3.5 (4.0 isn't rolled out yet). So, I changed it and now when I try and debug I get the following error:
"An error occurred creating the form. See Exception.InnerException for details. The error is: Unable to cast object of type 'System.Windows.Forms.SplitContainer' to type 'System.ComponentModel.ISupportInitialize'."
I really don't want to have to delete and recreate the splitContainer....
I have built a Dll and a Windows Service in vs2010. Both are targeting the .net 3.5 framework, but when I install it on the server it installs fine, but for some reason it targets the 2.0 framework and any time the methods fire that are using linq it crashes out with a clr20r3 error system.nullreferenceexception. Not really sure why it's not targeting .net 3.5.

View 1 RepliesWe have upgraded our project from Visual Studio 2008 to Visual Studio 2010 without any issues until now. Our project contains a folder call Libraries which contains different versions of Oracle ODP.NET DLL's as well as different versions of Telerik DLL's. Our project contains references to one of the versions of each. The problem is once we remove the reference and re-add it by browsing to the new version, again inside the Libraries folder inside the project, it adds the reference, but to the same version we just removed. We can even copy the DLL to our desktop, remove the reference and add to the new one on our desktop and it still will point to the Libraries folder version???. The only we we can actual change the reference to the new DLL is by manually changing the path in the .vbproj file, which is obviously not going to work for us. The same behaviour worked perfectly in VS 2008. We switch our references quite often, when new versions come out, but also far more often to QA different versions of ODP.NET and Telerik Control DLL's, so manually editing the .vbproj file is becoming quickly cumbersome. If I browse to a specific version at a specific path, Visual Studio should ALWAYS do what I'm telling it to do..

Every time I make even a very small change to a form in the form designer, when I try to move off the screen to write code, or run the application, VS 2010 takes up to 1 hour to figure out what the small change was, process it and then let me continue. Is there some fix that I am missing to make VS 2010 be able to handle small changes to the form_designer, or is this just the way it is?

View 2 RepliesI have a several C# console applications that basically parse tons of data in memory (LINQ) and output the results to a text file. Now, forget about the writing to the text file for a minute because this is not where the problem is occurring.
When I run the application in debug mode, I will never get it to utilize more than 50% of cpu usage. It will be parsing/massaging hundreds of thousands of records, but only go X fast and utilize 50% of the cpu AT MOST (as viewed in the Task Manager).
I would really like to use 100% of the CPU to make the processing go faster. Does anybody have any insight? I am running Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3. I have Visual Studio 2008 Professional with Service Pack 1 installed. I have manually set the affinity of the process in Task Manager to a single core on the dual CPU. Sometimes I can catch it utilizing 51% or 52% of the CPU.
