View 3 RepliesI created a VB Console app and it defaulted to .NET 4 but I need it to be .NET 3.5. I've been looking but all the references I find say to change it on the 'Compile' tab in properties but I don't have a compile tab or anything else that lets me change the target framework.
Note: I'm using VS2010 Ultimate
We have upgraded our project from Visual Studio 2008 to Visual Studio 2010 without any issues until now. Our project contains a folder call Libraries which contains different versions of Oracle ODP.NET DLL's as well as different versions of Telerik DLL's. Our project contains references to one of the versions of each. The problem is once we remove the reference and re-add it by browsing to the new version, again inside the Libraries folder inside the project, it adds the reference, but to the same version we just removed. We can even copy the DLL to our desktop, remove the reference and add to the new one on our desktop and it still will point to the Libraries folder version???. The only we we can actual change the reference to the new DLL is by manually changing the path in the .vbproj file, which is obviously not going to work for us. The same behaviour worked perfectly in VS 2008. We switch our references quite often, when new versions come out, but also far more often to QA different versions of ODP.NET and Telerik Control DLL's, so manually editing the .vbproj file is becoming quickly cumbersome. If I browse to a specific version at a specific path, Visual Studio should ALWAYS do what I'm telling it to do..
I did some seaching and came across a few other people with the same issue. This better not be as designed and if it's a bug, which I believe it to be, when will it be fixed?[URL]..
Every time I make even a very small change to a form in the form designer, when I try to move off the screen to write code, or run the application, VS 2010 takes up to 1 hour to figure out what the small change was, process it and then let me continue. Is there some fix that I am missing to make VS 2010 be able to handle small changes to the form_designer, or is this just the way it is?

View 2 RepliesDoes anybody know which version of Visual Studio 2010 contains the full set of Visual Basic SharePoint Templates? I am about to embark on a project to create Visual Web Parts to be used in a SharePoint report.
At the moment I am using Visual Studio 2008 and even though the WSPBuilder is installed none of the relevant SharePoint templates are present.Having searched SO and the web, most advise to install the templates via the Visual Studio command prompt: devenv /installvstemplates
Alas the Visual Studio command prompt is also missing from my VS2008 installation.So, the question remains: which version of VS2010 contains what I need for pain-free SharePoint development? There is a rather large price different between VS2010 Professional and VS2010 Premium, so can anyone tell me if the cheaper version (VS2010 Professional) contains all the Sharepoint templates?
I am just wondering how I can add Direct X references to Visual Basic in Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2. I cant find them in the .NET reference list, or the reference list, or anywhere. I downloaded the Direct X SDK for August 2009, but I can not add the .dll files to the reference list. Is there anything I can do to add them? I need the references for programming reasons.

View 2 RepliesI have defined a class with multiple constructors so that the underlying interfaces are immutable once the object is instantiated. I would like one of the constructors to be the "default" constructor for when a user types the following in Visual Studio:
var obj = new MyClass( Dim obj As New MyClass(
Currently when I go to instantiate the object, the constructors aren't listed (in Visual Studio IntelliSense) in the order I declared them in my class. Is there a way to mark up my constructors so that their methods appear in a particular order during instantiation in Visual Studio IntelliSense?
Ok, so I've got this Visual Studio 2008 Project I was working with about a year ago perhaps. And this project had a datagrid that was linked to an external database running on a server off the internet. Now, this databinding was all done using Visual Studio 2008's built in features. But how can I now change the binding to a different server, without destroying the project? I've noticed that a lot of the code that Visual Studio creates makes a mess. So manually trying to change the datasource has allways f*cked up the whole project for me.
I'm not all that good with this stuff, that's why I used the built in features of Visual Studio. But I noticed that several things appear, like a binding source, and a dataset. Is it possible to do this? Perhaps even better, making these settings be controlled after the program has been compiled. The way it is now, it's all hard coded after compiling, and that kinda sucks. I remember trying to do this about a year ago, trying to bind these settings to variables stored in settings. But I never got that to work. Just throwing around ideas here
WebMatrix is a web development and deployment tool by Microsoft so how is this compared to Visual Studio? which Use C# Razor Syntax is that more better coding.

I am using in built sql server 2005 which comes with visual studio 2008 in my project.This is my connection string.SQLConnection oConnection = new SQLConnection("Data Source=.SQLExpress Initial Catalog=Fas");
When I try to open the connection like oConnection.open() I am getting error like "Login failed for this user. User is not associated with trusted connection."By some googling I get the idea that I am using Windows authentication mode. So how can I change it to mix mode authentication? I dont have separate sqlserver installed on my system. It is same that comes with visual studio 2008

View 2 RepliesAt present I have wrote an application (in-house CRM, vb .net 2010) which allows me to send emails under the selected customer & I categorised these emails.As these are categorised I can return data to display email history in my program by using search criteria:
Dim oMail As Outlook.MAPIFolder = oNS.GetDefaultFolder(Outlook.OlDefaultFolders.olFolderSentMail)
Dim sSearch As String
sSearch = "[Categories] = '" + "[" + tAccount.Text.Trim + "]" + "(" + tShipTo.Text.Trim + ")'"
Dim oItems As Outlook.Items = oMail.Items.Restrict(sSearch)
However the limitation to the above is it only looks at sent items & no other folder.My ideal solution would be to display all email correspondence for a certain contact.

View 2 RepliesI'm working on a project started in VB9 (VS 2008) and now I've migrated to VS2010 (VB10) but on the production server the IDE is still VS 2008. On my developement enviroment the code compiles fine, but sometimes, - let's say - I forget an _ at the end of the line which causes the VB9 compiler to throw an error.So the question is, how could I build a project with the VS 2010 IDE but VB9 compiler? Or to force the VB10 compiler into VB9 mode?
View 2 RepliesI have to develop an application using MS Visual Studio 2005 or above with the following objective:
* The application should allow users to create as many new forms as they want and each form should behave like a MS Visual Studio WinForm. By saying that it should be a container for drag and drop of controls from the toolbox that I will develop....
* Once the user design's each screen to his taste by placing various controls on the form, he should be able to save the form as a screen. Of course I have to provide functionality for each of the controls such as if he drags a button on to the form, he should be able to specify what action it has to perfom when clicked when the application is put into run mode. Quite similar to regular windows form button.
* My application should have two modes: a DESIGN MODE, where user can drag, drop controls and specify what they should do when put into RUN MODE. This is quite similar to MS Visual Studio designer.
* Last but not least is to be able to access the application via the browser with the same look and feel his desktop version.
