I've developed an application using VB 2008 Express and there are some customers using it,of course they have framework 3.5 installed.Can I upgrade to VB 2010 but keep target of my project to framework 3.5 (there is a option on Compile tab to chose target framework version),is it a good idea or not ?
View 5 RepliesI started a project in VB 2008 and the target Framework was obviously not 4, like it forces in VB 2010. The issue is the computers this application is being deployed to have 3.5 as the latest .NET Framework.
View 4 RepliesI've been working on a new application and realised that I want the target framework to be 3.5 (4.0 isn't rolled out yet). So, I changed it and now when I try and debug I get the following error:
"An error occurred creating the form. See Exception.InnerException for details. The error is: Unable to cast object of type 'System.Windows.Forms.SplitContainer' to type 'System.ComponentModel.ISupportInitialize'."
I really don't want to have to delete and recreate the splitContainer....
I have built a Dll and a Windows Service in vs2010. Both are targeting the .net 3.5 framework, but when I install it on the server it installs fine, but for some reason it targets the 2.0 framework and any time the methods fire that are using linq it crashes out with a clr20r3 error system.nullreferenceexception. Not really sure why it's not targeting .net 3.5.

(The computers that I plan to use this program on only have .NET 3.5 SP1, and are painfully slow, so I don't want to upgrade them to .NET 4.)I have seen in the documentation that the Express edition does not have the option to change the target framework in the "New Project" dialog. View 2 RepliesI created a VB Console app and it defaulted to .NET 4 but I need it to be .NET 3.5. I've been looking but all the references I find say to change it on the 'Compile' tab in properties but I don't have a compile tab or anything else that lets me change the target framework.

I have a solution that I wish to upgrade from Vb.net framework 1.1 to framework 4.0. The solution consists of a number of projects, all but one of which compile to dll's. The master project compiles to a executable which provides a menuing system which dynamically loads the dll's and connects to entry points.
The projects contain normal classes, numbers of forms and also controls, which are either usercontrols or are inherited extensions of standard windows controls.There are a number of third party components (eg reporting and grid controls from Component One, Ribbon control from DevExpress etc).

I have upgraded a solution with several projects inside from VS2005 to VS2010, and because of a dependency issue I updated all projects to target .NET Framework 4.0. One of the VB projects now doesn't load two of its forms. I got an error:

Another form loads perfectly. The DependentVBProject builds fine, and is set as a dependency for the startup project.
Before upgrading to .NET Framework 4.0, this project loaded fine, but something else that had it as a dependency did not build (because of other 4.0 dependency).

and in VS 2008 the form (FRM_X ) loaded and invoked the Load method. After upgrading to VS 2010 the same code executes and displays the form but the Load method isn;t executed.
We recently upgraded VS 2005 to VS2010 and converted an application seemingly without any problems. But when deployed to the customer they are getting intermittent errors at seemingly random places in the program which force the application to close and AccessViolationExceptions being logged to the Application Event Log.
The customer's site is a multi user environment with the application hosted on a server and users running the app via RDP. We get two errors in the event log:

I am working on upgrading an old Access 2000 database to VB .NET (2010). There is one form that I am having trouble figuring out how to build so that it works similarly to the Access form. In Access, there is a header, detail and footer for this form. The objects in the detail section only need to be created once and Access will "copy" them for each record in the database and fill in the appropriate information (the form objects include buttons, textboxes, comboboxes, etc.).
How can I do this in VB .NET? Each different area that is chosen will have a different number of sections. I've thought about using a GroupBox, but I'm not sure how to make that work.

I have to update and old VB project made with Visual Studio 2005 that uses Crystal Reports to Visual Studio 2010. I've installed the Crystal Reports plugin for VS 2010. I can compile the program under VS 2010 but when I run it and try to generate a report I get many errors popping up from the Crystal Reports Viewer. When I compile and run the project in Visual Studio 2005 (with the old Crystal Reports plugin that comes with it) everything works fine.
The problem is caused by SQL Expressions that are SELECT statements that are not enclosed in parenthesis. This is a problem because there are ~250 SQL Expressions like that in the report file (and it's not the only report with this problem). When I look at the .rpt file in Crystal Reports 10 and use Database -> Show SQL Query the SQL Expressions have parenthesis around them despite there being no parenthesis around these statements in the SQL Expression Editor. When I do the same in Crystal Reports 2008 the SQL Expressions don't have the parenthesis included.
Is there a way to make Crystal Reports 2008 or the plugin in for VS 2010 automatically include the parenthesis around SQL expressions, or was this feature removed? If it was removed, is there anyway to enclose the SQL expressions in parenthesis other than editing each one manually?
Problem: A 2 year old solution made in VS2010 with vb .net 2.0. We are going to convert it on 4.0. So, the question is how? On a C# solution is quite simple since there is the compile tab where you can change the target framework, but here on vb net i can't find it.

I developed an app using the .net framework 3.5 sp1. I have now been told that the published version must not require sp1 but just the 3.5 framework.
So I uninstalled sp1 from my pc but not cannot publish the app. The app code will run without error but when I build it for publishing I get the error The "RequiresFramework35SP1Assembly" task was not found. Check the following: 1.) The name of the task in the project file is the same as the name of the task class. 2.) The task class is "public" and implements the Microsoft.Build.Framework.ITask interface. 3.) The task is correctly declared with <UsingTask> in the project file, or in the *.tasks files located in the "C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv3.5" directory.
After un installing visual basic 2010 express Beta 2 release i installed visual basic 2010 express final release and could not find he target CPU option in the compile tab of project properties. how could i now resolve the issue of "The 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' provider is not registered on the local machine" ie by forcing the application to run as x86 application??

View 4 RepliesI upgraded a solution with multiple projects from VS2008 to VS2010.One of the projects, a class library project, won't compile, although there are no errors in the error list.On the References tab of the project properties, the above error is displayed: "Could not resolve mscorlib for target framework '.NETFramework, Version-v4.0'.This can happen if the target framework is not installed or if the framework moniker is incorrectly formatted." .NET framework 4 v4.0.30319 is installed, and so is v3.5.All other projects build and work fine.Not all workstations experience this - some workstations can open the same solution without this problem occurring.Computers which have this problem also have VS2008 installed, and the same project compiles without issue in VS2008 on the same machine which has the problem in VS2010.

I have one main list of point that contains all the points on a picture that are black.(1point=1pixel) I need to group all the black pixels that are less than 15(more or less) pixels away from each other into one Separate list. In the end I want about 5 lists.
What I said above is what I think is best to detect the centre of a shooting target. This information is just for those who think they know a better way. Each card has 5 targets on it and I need to detect the centre of each target. Ignore the sticker on the top target, in all cases the top one will look like the rest.
I have an desktop application that references several dlls. All are targeted for .Net 3.5, x86. The applicaiton has been deployed for several years and was upgraded from visual studion 2008 to 2010 last year. I have made several changes to the app since then (as recently as last Thursday) with out any issues. Now, everything builds, but when I run the application, I get a type initialiazer error when one of the projects is loaded by the main application.
The error messsage is {"Could not load file or assembly 'System.Drawing, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.":"System.Drawing, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a"}.
There were no changes to this project since the last successfuly deployment last week, but today I am getting this error.

This is to prevent (or at least make it more difficult for) having multiple tunnels running (it's an updater for an IPv6 tunnel).I've seen various ways of doing it in VB 6.0 and early .NET, but nothing that deals with .NET 3.5 or VIsual Basic 2010.

Microsoft .NET Framework Version 4. Which is really annoying, cuz that thing installs in 15 minutes. I mean, can I do something about this? Is this common?
