I've used the right-click "find all references" to quickly show find symbol results for objects, subs and functions in my projects. Today it stopped working in the main asp.net solution I'm working on (in other projects, "find all references" works without problem). Everytime I try to search I get "search found no results". If I right click on reserved words, matches are returned but any of my code returns nothing.
The project builds without issue and I can use the regular Find and replace dialog.
I've developed an application using VB 2008 Express and there are some customers using it,of course they have framework 3.5 installed.Can I upgrade to VB 2010 but keep target of my project to framework 3.5 (there is a option on Compile tab to chose target framework version),is it a good idea or not ?

and in VS 2008 the form (FRM_X ) loaded and invoked the Load method. After upgrading to VS 2010 the same code executes and displays the form but the Load method isn;t executed.
We recently upgraded VS 2005 to VS2010 and converted an application seemingly without any problems. But when deployed to the customer they are getting intermittent errors at seemingly random places in the program which force the application to close and AccessViolationExceptions being logged to the Application Event Log.
The customer's site is a multi user environment with the application hosted on a server and users running the app via RDP. We get two errors in the event log:

I am working on upgrading an old Access 2000 database to VB .NET (2010). There is one form that I am having trouble figuring out how to build so that it works similarly to the Access form. In Access, there is a header, detail and footer for this form. The objects in the detail section only need to be created once and Access will "copy" them for each record in the database and fill in the appropriate information (the form objects include buttons, textboxes, comboboxes, etc.).
How can I do this in VB .NET? Each different area that is chosen will have a different number of sections. I've thought about using a GroupBox, but I'm not sure how to make that work.

What can i use instead of control arrays in VB2010 to get the same functionality as in VB6, or does VB2010 use control arrays?
I have to update and old VB project made with Visual Studio 2005 that uses Crystal Reports to Visual Studio 2010. I've installed the Crystal Reports plugin for VS 2010. I can compile the program under VS 2010 but when I run it and try to generate a report I get many errors popping up from the Crystal Reports Viewer. When I compile and run the project in Visual Studio 2005 (with the old Crystal Reports plugin that comes with it) everything works fine.
The problem is caused by SQL Expressions that are SELECT statements that are not enclosed in parenthesis. This is a problem because there are ~250 SQL Expressions like that in the report file (and it's not the only report with this problem). When I look at the .rpt file in Crystal Reports 10 and use Database -> Show SQL Query the SQL Expressions have parenthesis around them despite there being no parenthesis around these statements in the SQL Expression Editor. When I do the same in Crystal Reports 2008 the SQL Expressions don't have the parenthesis included.
Is there a way to make Crystal Reports 2008 or the plugin in for VS 2010 automatically include the parenthesis around SQL expressions, or was this feature removed? If it was removed, is there anyway to enclose the SQL expressions in parenthesis other than editing each one manually?
I have an API that loads into memory from a button click. It can then either load an approx 10MB txt file (ASCII comma delimited characters/decimal list as a string) or live timed data from the internet. The idea is to be able to view the data in a text box. From there I can see what I am doing as far as spitting that info into a datagridview or database. The data is completely out of order in the txt file but has various Getinfo Functions / DLL's accessed via button clicks that split the data into its correct format to display in the text box. The problem I am having is not having fixed length strings in VB 2010. I don't know enough to work out if there is a simple work around or something more complicated required. Everything I have tried has left the textbox empty.

I would like to rewrite the code in VB 2008 (or download open source code) to transfer everything to VB 2008. But rather than just putting a picture control on a form as I did before under VB6, I would like to learn and adopt some new technology while continuing to use classic Windows form coding. I recently upgraded an application that creates several report files, that are read by an older VB6 application that i cannot upgrade. I've gotten everything working (faster than i expected) except the new FilePut. I'm saving the ubound of an array, which is a UDT, Then saving the array itself(which again, is a UDT)No matter what I do, the file is about 7 b larger, and doesnt want to read in at all in VB6. For example, I put an 32 bit integer into the file, say 4000, VB6 reads it as 3948395 or so, it seems its padding the file at the beginning or something.
And Yes, i've tried microsofts ArrayIsDynamic function, but it seems to have made no difference at all.

this is my first try with .net 08 express. i have up graded my project from ((vb6 + ado) & access03)to .net express 08 every thing is almost fine except that the functions i defined with in the standard modules are

I have a vb.net app that is installed on server 2008 and registered as a remote app with approximately 70 users accessing it. There is an issue that when I put a new version of the app on the server, every user must remote desktop in and run setup.exe before the app will update to the newest version. If they try to run it without doing this step first, the app just runs the previously installed version under their login.

View 3 RepliesI was woking on a windows app today when my errors were no longer being displayed as they usually would, instead the debugger just jumps out of the method. It works in other projects, I have put this: 'Dim i as Integer = "A"' in as my first line to try and raise an error but it just exits the sub on that line.
The output window makes a note of the exception but the usual popup trace does not appear, any ideas how I get it back??

I have a LoadTable function when I can pass a column and a value, and the SQL select command is updated with a WHERE or HAVING, so only the requested data is selected. I also can pass the whole "WHERE ..." part of the SQL select command, so I can have multiple parameters in the SELECT command.On my other forms, I have copies of the DataSets, so I can design grids/controls. In the form_Load events, I manually bind the controls to DataSets and tables in located "OleDbAdpatForm.vb", so all forms are using the same data tables, and changes made to data in one form are reflected in data in other forms.The VS 2008's DataSources, BindingSources and TableAdapters seem much easier to use. how I should implement the new data features in my application?
Recently I uninstalled and reinstalled Visual Studio 2008. Before that, Visual Studio compress images that I put in the Resources folder. In this folder I put images in PNG format for use in the project. When I was compiling the project, the executable was of a size much smaller than the sum of the bytes of the images as they were compressing in the compilation. The sum of the size of the images gives a 47MB, and the file compiled with the images was around 3.5 MB. But now the images are not compressed. For the resulting executable with the build is about 48 MB ... I'm deducing the problem is because the images were not compressed ...is it so?
View 5 RepliesI have been developing an async socket connection server and client program. I have been testing it, and noticed that if I connect to the server from my client and then disconnect. Upon reconnecting I am on a different port(local IP still). This is fine, however when I go to send a message, and the server trys to update all the clients, it eventually hits clients that do not exist anymore. I get the SocketException 10054, and upon connecting/disconnecting enough, it no longer works at all. My question is how do I clear out these no longer useful sockets from the server? I am doing currentsocket.Shutdown(SocketShutDown.Both); and then a currentsocket.Close(); after that. When a user disconnects.

I�ve had success using the GET method to retrieve a series of web pages but my new challenge requires me to use a POST > GET combo. I can get it to work once just fine but no more. I get the feeling that something isn�t closing or completing properly. When I try to do the second GetRequestStream() I can see from my sniffer app that nothing is being sent so when the next command to stream the POST data to the request session it fails. I removed it all from the loop and simplified it as much as possible. Can someone tell me why it fails?
Also as a general question is my tack or reusing WebRequests viable? Or is there a �best practice� for looping a POST > GET combo? I�ve been assuming that since nothing in the WebRequest changes besides the post data I�m sending, even its length remains the same, that I should be able to re-use it.

I have a program that uses the mouse to find window captions. I made a test program that just does that and it works fine. I copied and pasted the code into my other program and it doesn't work. The mouse position changes, but it will only get the caption of a window if it is at the top of the screen. It seems that only the Mouse.X position is changing, but I put the MousePosition.X and Y in a label and they are both changing. Can anyone explain why this is happening?

When I run it, it works because I have MsgBox() in there (at the end of the script). As soon as I remove MsgBox() it stops working properly, why?
What it should do: When the program loads, it will call my sub, the sub will check to see if the two files exist, if they don't exist a folder dialog box is opened and you select the folder that they are in, it will then call it's self again and do the same thing. If the files do exist it should continue with the program.
The Problem is, that it only works the way I want when I have the MsgBox() function there otherwise it only works if you select the correct folder the first time the dialog pops up.
I have an app that moves the mouse, and does a click on the screen however, it seems to work great on windows XP machines, and when i try it on my windows 7 box, the window dosent close, or do anything..
I typically will hit my "execute" button, that will minize the window, then i place my cursor where i want it to go, and hit space bar, and it should move my mouse up a few spaces, click, and move to the next.. But again, winXP it works fine, win7 dosent do anything.

I'm trying to make a email client but my biggest problem is finding a component that is (preferably) free. I need one that works with IMAP and POP3. Also would be nice if it could handle sending emails (Via SMTP). It would also be great if it worked with gmail.
