View 8 RepliesI've developed an application using VB 2008 Express and there are some customers using it,of course they have framework 3.5 installed.Can I upgrade to VB 2010 but keep target of my project to framework 3.5 (there is a option on Compile tab to chose target framework version),is it a good idea or not ?
View 5 RepliesOk a simple question, I should know the answer but I am embarrased to ask. How do I get the .Net 4.0 framework deployed with my application when I publish it.Instead of having to download it on other pc's. Im sure its just a tick box in the preferences/settings somewhere.
View 3 RepliesI was messing with my program as I was having trouble getting it installed on machines without VB Express installed already. I adjusted the .Net requirement to 3.5 as I figured more people would meet that requirement without additional installs and now I get this error on my program when trying to change settings.Any idea how to get this set back up correctly.I'm on a Windows 7-64bit machine, using VB Basic 2010 Express.[code]
View 11 RepliesI'm creating an updater for an IP address, and I need to ensure that only one instance is running on the computer. This is to prevent (or at least make it more difficult for) having multiple tunnels running (it's an updater for an IPv6 tunnel).I've seen various ways of doing it in VB 6.0 and early .NET, but nothing that deals with .NET 3.5 or VIsual Basic 2010.
View 4 RepliesAnyone doing anything with VS2010 and the compact framework ? or do we need to go back to VS2005/VS2008 ?
View 1 RepliesI have a question to ask you. All of the programs that I made always worked perfectly in my PC. But, whenever I test it on another PC, it requires a thing like... Microsoft .NET Framework Version 4. Which is really annoying, cuz that thing installs in 15 minutes. I mean, can I do something about this? Is this common?
View 4 RepliesMy application seems to require .net framework 4 to run. Hence not working on standard XP installations until .net 4 is installed. How do I make it so that it only needs 3.5, or whatever XP uses natively?
View 5 RepliesMy app doesn't work on clients PC's who have .NET FRAMEWORK 4 CLIENT PROFILE...when I switch the target framework to .NET FRAMEWORK 4 CLIENT PROFILE in my development environment, I get a ton of errors. Is there a fix for this besides installing the full framework version on the client PC?
View 2 RepliesI have made an application with VS2010, meaning it requires .NET framework 4 to run properly.If the program is ran on a machine with .NET framework 3.5, it returns an error stating I should install 4.
View 7 RepliesI started a project in VB 2008 and the target Framework was obviously not 4, like it forces in VB 2010. The issue is the computers this application is being deployed to have 3.5 as the latest .NET Framework.
View 4 RepliesI used to write code at a previous job in lots of languages, VB just one of them. At my new job I am tasked with writing code again. I have picked up VB 2010 express to get started and will move forward from there. The problem that I am facing is that 2010 uses the .net 4.0 framework. This is too new for the add-ins to support.
It follows, my question: Is there a way that VB .net 2010 can be forced to use a specific .net framework? Can I tell it to use the .net 2.0 for instance?
Anyone use the framework binarysearch methods?Can they do lower and upper bound searches?
View 4 RepliesI am having a few dramas with running my completed project on another computer. I created my project using Visual Studio 2010 (Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 Express).The error messages I get say that the program is unable to access the .NET framework. This is because the .NET framework is not loaded onto the other computer and loading it is not an option.I've done some searching on the internet and I found instructions for going from a dynamic library to a static library and building, rather than publishing the finished product for C++ 2010. So, I assume that I need to do something similar but I haven't been able to apply this to VB 2010 Express.The finished product needs to be self-contained, so that the .exe file has all the libraries and compilation instructions it needs.So, is someone able to tell me how to link up the files I need and re-package my project so that it works on any computer that runs Windows.
View 24 RepliesI am work on VB.net 2003 Framework 1.1 for last 3.5 years in windows Application.We are currently migrating to VB.net 2008 framework 3.5, but i don't know about the features which related to ADO.net and which is important to performance. I know linq to SQL but our architecture is made in .net 2003 so we should follow this.Any features which is very important to enhance the performance?
View 2 RepliesI'm running Visual Studio 2010 with the Dot Net 4.0 Framework. I've been running around everywhere looking for the answer and haven't found anything. All I want to do is be able to access the Tags and Comments of an image file through my code. I've tried a bunch of different things but to no avail.
Dim dra As IO.FileInfo
My.Settings.Properties.ToString()'didn't work
dra.Attributes.ToString()'didn't work
IO.File.GetAttributes(fullPathFile)'didn't work
[code].....
And a bunch of others that I don't feel like undoing to.
I've been working on a new application and realised that I want the target framework to be 3.5 (4.0 isn't rolled out yet). So, I changed it and now when I try and debug I get the following error:
"An error occurred creating the form. See Exception.InnerException for details. The error is: Unable to cast object of type 'System.Windows.Forms.SplitContainer' to type 'System.ComponentModel.ISupportInitialize'."
I really don't want to have to delete and recreate the splitContainer....
I'm struggling a bit with Entity Framework 4.x. Let's say I have a model called Product. It was generated from a database table. There is a field in this entity called CreatedDate. The MySQL database has a default value for the current timestamp. I don't want Entity Framework to set this field when inserting or update the table. Problem is, I can't seem to figure out how to tell EF to exclude this field from being sent back to the database, but still retain it as a field to be viewable in the application.
View 2 RepliesI have built a Dll and a Windows Service in vs2010. Both are targeting the .net 3.5 framework, but when I install it on the server it installs fine, but for some reason it targets the 2.0 framework and any time the methods fire that are using linq it crashes out with a clr20r3 error system.nullreferenceexception. Not really sure why it's not targeting .net 3.5.
View 10 RepliesI just read this post url...Post #2 by jmc states indicates the use of Entity Framework instead of typed datasets.when jmc says something I usually pay attention. I have a large app that I've been converting from VB6 to .Net and I've used mainly typed datasets.It's a single user app that uses an Access database. I'm have no problems retrieving the data from a table or multiple tables and I'm very happy with its preformance.Is it worth scapping what I've done and learn how to use Entity Framework? I should add that I'm near the end of my programming career not the beginning.
View 4 RepliesI am attempting to write a program in Visual Basic Express 2010 that uses .NET Framework version 3.5 instead of 4. (The computers that I plan to use this program on only have .NET 3.5 SP1, and are painfully slow, so I don't want to upgrade them to .NET 4.)I have seen in the documentation that the Express edition does not have the option to change the target framework in the "New Project" dialog. However, when I go to the Project Properties window, there is not a drop-down list for the target framework, either.Can I change the target framework version in Visual Basic Express 2010?

View 1 RepliesI am creating a program in VS 2010 which obviously uses Framework 4.1 However now that I am trying to test the program I am realizing usually only developers like us have this version.. Is there any way to downgrade the needed version of the framework for my program Currently I run it on my test computer and it asks me to download 4.1 version.
View 4 RepliesI created a VB Console app and it defaulted to .NET 4 but I need it to be .NET 3.5. I've been looking but all the references I find say to change it on the 'Compile' tab in properties but I don't have a compile tab or anything else that lets me change the target framework.
Note: I'm using VS2010 Ultimate
Is there any predefined property by which I can set the DisplayFormat/DisplayStyle of a textbox? Suppose I want a textbox to hold the actual value 888888888888.88 and show it formatted as 888,888,888,888.88. In short it should hold 'Double' data type value and show it with thousand separators and decimal places upto two digits. If text is cleared from the textbox, it should have 0 as value and 0.00 as displayed value. Also the number of digits in the textbox may vary accordingly. So how can it be done?

Anyone know how to solve it?
I have 2 applications that needs to talk to each others. After some research, I wanted to go with managed pipe (namespace system.io.pipes). The problem is, the client must send commands to the server but need to also wait for incoming message from the server at the same time. I tried to go asynchrone but it doesn't work.

Say I have a Framework 4.0 project that is referencing a class library targeting 3.5. The project will simply not build. It won't give me any valid error message it will just act as though the reference does not exist.
Projects that were working like this in Visual Studio 2008 are no longer working in 2010. Took me forever to figure out what there error is. If I remove the project reference and add it back the intellisense lights up and you can tell a variable referenced in the class library is found. But as soon as you build the project everything is lost. My using statements get underlined, references to the variable all turn grey and project fails to build saying the class cannot be found. Once I make the class library 4.0 as well everything builds. I get the same issue between 4.0 client profile and 4.0 as well.
I have a solution that I wish to upgrade from Vb.net framework 1.1 to framework 4.0. The solution consists of a number of projects, all but one of which compile to dll's. The master project compiles to a executable which provides a menuing system which dynamically loads the dll's and connects to entry points.
The projects contain normal classes, numbers of forms and also controls, which are either usercontrols or are inherited extensions of standard windows controls.There are a number of third party components (eg reporting and grid controls from Component One, Ribbon control from DevExpress etc).
