VS 2010 Messed Up .Net Framework
Mar 7, 2011
I was messing with my program as I was having trouble getting it installed on machines without VB Express installed already. I adjusted the .Net requirement to 3.5 as I figured more people would meet that requirement without additional installs and now I get this error on my program when trying to change settings.Any idea how to get this set back up correctly.I'm on a Windows 7-64bit machine, using VB Basic 2010 Express.[code]

i recently upgraded from vs2k8 to vs2k10 and after loading up some of my programs i couldntbut notice the error window saying "A call to PInvoke function bla bla has unbalanced the stack. bla bla bla..."This is very annoying since the exact same code worked perfectly in vs2008 and theres no apparent reason for their sudden failiure, i tried different kinds of calling conventions but i get the same error on each turn. The error message only seems to appear upon callingg

I'm recently writing an app that is localizable and have several lauguage resources built within VS 2010 SP1. But now I came into a problem -- it seems that VS has modified one of the Designer.vb unregularly.The problem reveals like this. Whenever I want to change the main form's Language from Default into fr-CA (for eg, and with Localizable true), and after I save or run the project, then VS shows me with dozens of a same errors: 'Resources_ fr_ CA'is not a member of 'myApp'. The amount the this error I guess is depend on the number of controls on the form, but I'm not quite certain about that.Then I looked into the Designer file and found strange lines that were suddenly added by VS, they are somelike this two, not all these but commonly:[code]
The problem used to happened several times and it was passive before cos I can remove the lines one by one, using a text editor from outside. But now it is total nightmare, because, now whenever I set Language into French, the same problem MUST happen as saving the project. I can not debug or develop it with local language again, that is not any more a joke is it?

Kinda an irrititating problem here. The list of objects to change to properties, still shows objects that aren't there anymore. Is there a file I can edit so I can manually remove them?

If I drag another Form/Program or maybe lets say a context menu happens to open over my custom Control, this happens.It does correct itself after causing a redraw, however it's quite annoying. Is there anyway to avoid this?

I have a main page that loads a content of a div:
var content = $("#content_layout");
//some code here
content.load("claim_form.aspx?claim_no=" + file_number);
The claim_form.aspx has a drop down, and based on that drop down it should show the apropriate input fields. I set the index to be 1 and automatically load the first set of inputs. Here is some code to explain it better:
$("#request_type").change(function(e) {
index = document.getElementById("request_type").selectedIndex;
if (index == "0") {

Ok a simple question, I should know the answer but I am embarrased to ask. How do I get the .Net 4.0 framework deployed with my application when I publish it.Instead of having to download it on other pc's. Im sure its just a tick box in the preferences/settings somewhere.

I'm creating an updater for an IP address, and I need to ensure that only one instance is running on the computer. This is to prevent (or at least make it more difficult for) having multiple tunnels running (it's an updater for an IPv6 tunnel).I've seen various ways of doing it in VB 6.0 and early .NET, but nothing that deals with .NET 3.5 or VIsual Basic 2010.

I have a question to ask you. All of the programs that I made always worked perfectly in my PC. But, whenever I test it on another PC, it requires a thing like... Microsoft .NET Framework Version 4. Which is really annoying, cuz that thing installs in 15 minutes. I mean, can I do something about this? Is this common?

My application seems to require .net framework 4 to run. Hence not working on standard XP installations until .net 4 is installed. How do I make it so that it only needs 3.5, or whatever XP uses natively?

My app doesn't work on clients PC's who have .NET FRAMEWORK 4 CLIENT PROFILE...when I switch the target framework to .NET FRAMEWORK 4 CLIENT PROFILE in my development environment, I get a ton of errors. Is there a fix for this besides installing the full framework version on the client PC?

I started a project in VB 2008 and the target Framework was obviously not 4, like it forces in VB 2010. The issue is the computers this application is being deployed to have 3.5 as the latest .NET Framework.

I used to write code at a previous job in lots of languages, VB just one of them. At my new job I am tasked with writing code again. I have picked up VB 2010 express to get started and will move forward from there. The problem that I am facing is that 2010 uses the .net 4.0 framework. This is too new for the add-ins to support.
It follows, my question: Is there a way that VB .net 2010 can be forced to use a specific .net framework? Can I tell it to use the .net 2.0 for instance?

I am having a few dramas with running my completed project on another computer. I created my project using Visual Studio 2010 (Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 Express).The error messages I get say that the program is unable to access the .NET framework. This is because the .NET framework is not loaded onto the other computer and loading it is not an option.I've done some searching on the internet and I found instructions for going from a dynamic library to a static library and building, rather than publishing the finished product for C++ 2010. So, I assume that I need to do something similar but I haven't been able to apply this to VB 2010 Express.The finished product needs to be self-contained, so that the .exe file has all the libraries and compilation instructions it needs.So, is someone able to tell me how to link up the files I need and re-package my project so that it works on any computer that runs Windows.

I'm running Visual Studio 2010 with the Dot Net 4.0 Framework. I've been running around everywhere looking for the answer and haven't found anything. All I want to do is be able to access the Tags and Comments of an image file through my code. I've tried a bunch of different things but to no avail.
Dim dra As IO.FileInfo
My.Settings.Properties.ToString()'didn't work
dra.Attributes.ToString()'didn't work
IO.File.GetAttributes(fullPathFile)'didn't work
[code].....
And a bunch of others that I don't feel like undoing to.

I've been working on a new application and realised that I want the target framework to be 3.5 (4.0 isn't rolled out yet). So, I changed it and now when I try and debug I get the following error:
"An error occurred creating the form. See Exception.InnerException for details. The error is: Unable to cast object of type 'System.Windows.Forms.SplitContainer' to type 'System.ComponentModel.ISupportInitialize'."
I really don't want to have to delete and recreate the splitContainer....

I'm struggling a bit with Entity Framework 4.x. Let's say I have a model called Product. It was generated from a database table. There is a field in this entity called CreatedDate. The MySQL database has a default value for the current timestamp. I don't want Entity Framework to set this field when inserting or update the table. Problem is, I can't seem to figure out how to tell EF to exclude this field from being sent back to the database, but still retain it as a field to be viewable in the application.

I have built a Dll and a Windows Service in vs2010. Both are targeting the .net 3.5 framework, but when I install it on the server it installs fine, but for some reason it targets the 2.0 framework and any time the methods fire that are using linq it crashes out with a clr20r3 error system.nullreferenceexception. Not really sure why it's not targeting .net 3.5.

I just read this post url...Post #2 by jmc states indicates the use of Entity Framework instead of typed datasets.when jmc says something I usually pay attention. I have a large app that I've been converting from VB6 to .Net and I've used mainly typed datasets.It's a single user app that uses an Access database. I'm have no problems retrieving the data from a table or multiple tables and I'm very happy with its preformance.Is it worth scapping what I've done and learn how to use Entity Framework? I should add that I'm near the end of my programming career not the beginning.

I am attempting to write a program in Visual Basic Express 2010 that uses .NET Framework version 3.5 instead of 4. (The computers that I plan to use this program on only have .NET 3.5 SP1, and are painfully slow, so I don't want to upgrade them to .NET 4.)I have seen in the documentation that the Express edition does not have the option to change the target framework in the "New Project" dialog. However, when I go to the Project Properties window, there is not a drop-down list for the target framework, either.Can I change the target framework version in Visual Basic Express 2010?
