Forms Don't Load After Upgrading To .NET Framework 4.0

Mar 10, 2012

I have upgraded a solution with several projects inside from VS2005 to VS2010, and because of a dependency issue I updated all projects to target .NET Framework 4.0. One of the VB projects now doesn't load two of its forms. I got an error:

[Code].....

Another form loads perfectly. The DependentVBProject builds fine, and is set as a dependency for the startup project.

Before upgrading to .NET Framework 4.0, this project loaded fine, but something else that had it as a dependency did not build (because of other 4.0 dependency).

Upgrading .Net Project From Framework 1.1 To Framework 4.0?

Feb 2, 2011

I have a solution that I wish to upgrade from Vb.net framework 1.1 to framework 4.0. The solution consists of a number of projects, all but one of which compile to dll's. The master project compiles to a executable which provides a menuing system which dynamically loads the dll's and connects to entry points.

The projects contain normal classes, numbers of forms and also controls, which are either usercontrols or are inherited extensions of standard windows controls. There are a number of third party components (eg reporting and grid controls from Component One, Ribbon control from DevExpress etc).

Application That Has Multiple Front Ends Developed Using Windows Forms / WPF / ASP / Compact Framework Mobile Forms

Apr 9, 2010

I have the requirement to create an application that has multiple front ends developed using Windows Forms, WPF, ASP and Compact Framework Mobile Forms.I would like to be able to create a series of obejct representing the business logic and have this logic accessible from the various front ends available. My first thought was to use remoting as I'd like to be able to pass the business objects back and forth between client and server but the compact framework doesn't support remoting and also transferring a full framework business object to a compact framework business object doesn't seem possible. My next thought was to use web services but again the passing of business objects seems to be very hard to accomplish. Without doing this I would have to create individual web methods for each business operation.

Finally my next option is to use sockets and write the whole client/server logic within some classes and expose them to the UI/Business layer. My only problem with this is it is not scaleable should the number of clients increase dramatically whereas using remoting or web services I can host the solution via ASP.Net.Does anybody have an ideas on the best way forward for this or even have any input on how they would write an application that required a windows form, wpf, asp website and mobile device GUI all of which want to use the same business logic?

Load An Entity Framework EntityCollection With Criteria?

May 27, 2010

In Entity Framework (specifically EF 3.5, but if it exists in EF 4 it gives me a reason to upgrade) is it possible to lazy load only part of a collection? I may be approaching this wrong too, so I'm open to suggestions. My tables/entities look similar to this:

[Code]...

The issue is this is loading up the entire collection. Granted it's a small collection so worst case scenario I can load it all up and then remove all but the one I need, but that is far from ideal. Plus I'm not sure if it would be possible without triggering any of the events of modifying the collection since they shouldn't have been in there in the first place.

Windows Load The .Net Framework At Boot Time?

Dec 5, 2011

1. Does Windows load the .Net framework at boot time? How can I check (eg. some DLL running in the background)? How much RAM does the framework use, so that I check I have enough to pre-load at boot time? Once loaded, will it stay in RAM?

2. What is the point of JIT once the application is installed on a given computer? Are there drawbacks about compiling into binary code applications that I use often on my own computer so that no time is wasted recompiling the application every time it's ran? If not, can I compile apps for which I only the .Net bytecode?

3. Is the framework downward-compatible, ie. will a 2.0 application run if I only have the 4.0 framework installed?

Visual Studio :: How Does The .net Framework Nest Forms In Classes

Sep 11, 2009

If I look at some classes in the framework, using reflector, I can see that forms and user controls are made private and nested into a parent class. For instance, I have a control which makes use of pop-up form that is specific to that control. At the moment, I make the pop-up form friend accessible. If I wanted to do it the framework way, I'd make it private and nest it into the control class. If I do this, however, I can no longer use the ide to design the form and I get errors when I try to compile.

Upgrading .net Web App From .net 1.1 To 3.5

Apr 14, 2011

I have been tasked with upgrading a large web application from .net 1.1 to 3.5. I have converted it using Visual Studio 2008, and it compiles ok. Should I be expecting everything to work correctly straight off? And if not can anyone suggest what are the major pitfalls I should be looking out for. Should I be taking the time to write and carry out a full test for the entire system, or is that overkill?

VB 6 GUI When Upgrading To .NET?

May 26, 2011

We are upgrading a VB6 project to VB.NET. I ran it though an upgrade utility (Artinsoft). I guess the question is where is the GUI. In VB6, there is a form designe and Object mode. That does not exist in vb.net correct???

It looks like during the upgrade the entire GUI, the forms, the buttons, they are all gone. None of that was upgraded. So does the entire GUI have to be recreated in asp.net or something?

How To Run Report And Load Forms

Dec 10, 2009

I am new to Visual Basic (I currently have VB 2008 Express to play with) and have a question about automating MS Access applications.I have a number of MS access applications that interact with MS Excel, Windows commands and Adobe writer. The applications have multiple forms that require input and/or selection from dropdown list which are repeated for 15 different selections manually.Rather than change the application can I write something in VB to perform the manual process of filling foelds and clicking buttons? e.g. I can open a DB, display a form and then this requires two fields to have a date input, then a new form loads and a dropdown is selected. This is used to generate a report.I can see how to run the report and load forms, but can/how do I update the fields in the form.

Forms :: Control The Load Location Of An App?

Mar 19, 2009

I am developing a windows app in VS2008 to be used along side ESRIs ArcMap. Most ArcMap users will have dual monitors and I would like the user to be able to choose which monitor my app is loaded on to.

When I deploy the app using the standard install package, the app will load onto which ever monitor the user places the desktop shortcut. However, when using the ClickOnce method of deployment, the placement of the shortcut does not matter and the app always loads on the primary display monitor.

Is there a way to control where an app is loaded by code or any other method?

Forms :: Progress Bar And Load Dataset?

Dec 17, 2009

so what I want to do should be pretty simple. I've been following the examples found here Using the BackgroundWorker Component - VBForums . I've been successful, but I'm not smart enough to put it in my project.

What I'd like to happen is this

1. I hit a button to load data from a dataset....

2. have a progress bar show until this action is complete.

The main problem is that I can't figure out how to tie the "progress bar" to the action of "pulling the dataset"

I'm sure this is a crazy question for you all, but hey...

Would I put all of the coding in the button_Click sub?
