C# - "Target Framework" In Visual Studio?

Feb 4, 2010

What actually happens when you target the .NET 3.5 framework in Visual Studio? What does that actually do? Does it somehow "flag" any of the output files and associate them with the framework version?

Visual Studio 2010 - Change Target Framework In .NET Console App?

Aug 18, 2011

I created a VB Console app and it defaulted to .NET 4 but I need it to be .NET 3.5. I've been looking but all the references I find say to change it on the 'Compile' tab in properties but I don't have a compile tab or anything else that lets me change the target framework.

Note: I'm using VS2010 Ultimate

Aug 30, 2011

I have an desktop application that references several dlls. All are targeted for .Net 3.5, x86. The applicaiton has been deployed for several years and was upgraded from visual studion 2008 to 2010 last year. Now, everything builds, but when I run the application, I get a type initialiazer error when one of the projects is loaded by the main application.

The error messsage is {"Could not load file or assembly 'System.Drawing, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.":"System.Drawing, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a"}.

There were no changes to this project since the last successfuly deployment last week, but today I am getting this error.

I'm running Visual Studio 2010 with the Dot Net 4.0 Framework. I've been running around everywhere looking for the answer and haven't found anything. All I want to do is be able to access the Tags and Comments of an image file through my code. I've tried a bunch of different things but to no avail.

My.Settings.Properties.ToString()'didn't work
dra.Attributes.ToString()'didn't work
IO.File.GetAttributes(fullPathFile)'didn't work

And a bunch of others that I don't feel like undoing to.

Visual Studio :: How Does The .net Framework Nest Forms In Classes

Sep 11, 2009

If I look at some classes in the framework, using reflector, I can see that forms and user controls are made private and nested into a parent class. For instance, I have a control which makes use of pop-up form that is specific to that control. At the moment, I make the pop-up form friend accessible. If I wanted to do it the framework way, I'd make it private and nest it into the control class. If I do this, however, I can no longer use the ide to design the form and I get errors when I try to compile.

C# - DisplayFormat/DisplayStyle Property Of TextBox (Visual Studio 2010, .Net Framework 4)?

Jul 22, 2011

Is there any predefined property by which I can set the DisplayFormat/DisplayStyle of a textbox? Suppose I want a textbox to hold the actual value 888888888888.88 and show it formatted as 888,888,888,888.88. In short it should hold 'Double' data type value and show it with thousand separators and decimal places upto two digits. If text is cleared from the textbox, it should have 0 as value and 0.00 as displayed value. Also the number of digits in the textbox may vary accordingly. So how can it be done?

My.Settings.Upgrade Stopped Preserving Settings After Visual Studio And Framework Were Upgraded?

Jan 13, 2011

The company has been using Visual Studio 2008 and .NET Framework 2.0 for approximately 2 years. During that time we released several versions (4.x.x) of our program to the public and were able to preserve the user's settings using My.Settings.Upgrade.During the past development cycle we upgraded the program to Visual Studio 2010 and .NET Framework 4.0 and changed the version to 5.x.x. Now, when a user upgrades from 4.x.x to 5.x.x they lose all of their settings. However, in all upgrades after that point (ie 5.0 to 5.1) all the user's settings are once again preserved.I checked C:Documents and Settings<USER_NAME>Local SettingsApplication DataCompanyName and it contains two directories:

ApplicationName_Url_aaa ApplicationName_Url_bbb

where aaa and bbb are 32 character strings. All of the user.config files for the 4.x.x releases can be found in the ApplicationName_ Url_aaa directory. All of the user.config files for the 5.x.x releases can be found in the ApplicationName_Url_bbb directory.Based on this information it seems like something changed when we converted our program to VS2010 and Framework4 that is now causing a different 32 character string to be generated. However, we have been unable to track it down.

MSI Returned Error Code 1638 When Re-Installing Visual Studio 2008 - .NET Framework | Dream.In.Code

Jan 9, 2012

I realize this post is rather long, but I wanted to give all the information up front instead of people having to ask me for more information. At the end of the re-installation of Visual Studio 2008, there is this message:

"Microsoft SQL Publishing Wizard: [2] Error: Installation failed for component Microsoft SQL Publishing Wizard. MSI returned error code 1638" in the log file dd_error_vs_procore_90.txt.

I have searched on Google for this whole message and found some references to this error, but I have done what they said worked for them and it did not fix the problem for me.When I searched for just "MSI returned error code 1638", I got that it cannot install something because it is already installed:"Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel".In Add/Remove Programs I see these two programs:

Microsoft SQL Server Database Publishing Wizard 1.3
Microsoft SQL Server Database Publishing Wizard 1.4

Are these programs/versions what the error is refering to? Am I safe to remove them and depend on the similarly-named item which would be newly installed with Visual Studio 2008 - "Microsoft SQL Publishing Wizard"? I still use SQL Server 2000 and 2005 on my computer, as well as 2008. I had installed VS 2008 on my computer before without this problem and also have VS 2005 and 2010.

VS 2008 Changing The Target Framework?

Jan 26, 2011

I developed an app using the .net framework 3.5 sp1. I have now been told that the published version must not require sp1 but just the 3.5 framework.

So I uninstalled sp1 from my pc but not cannot publish the app. The app code will run without error but when I build it for publishing I get the error The "RequiresFramework35SP1Assembly" task was not found. Check the following: 1.) The name of the task in the project file is the same as the name of the task class. 2.) The task class is "public" and implements the Microsoft.Build.Framework.ITask interface. 3.) The task is correctly declared with <UsingTask> in the project file, or in the *.tasks files located in the "C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv3.5" directory.

Can I Change The Target Framework Version In Express 2010

Aug 15, 2010

I am attempting to write a program in Visual Basic Express 2010 that uses .NET Framework version 3.5 instead of 4. (The computers that I plan to use this program on only have .NET 3.5 SP1, and are painfully slow, so I don't want to upgrade them to .NET 4.)I have seen in the documentation that the Express edition does not have the option to change the target framework in the "New Project" dialog. However, when I go to the Project Properties window, there is not a drop-down list for the target framework, either. Can I change the target framework version in Visual Basic Express 2010?

Could Not Resolve Mscorlib For Target Framework '.NETFramework Version-v4.0'

Nov 8, 2010

I upgraded a solution with multiple projects from VS2008 to VS2010.One of the projects, a class library project, won't compile, although there are no errors in the error list.On the References tab of the project properties, the above error is displayed: "Could not resolve mscorlib for target framework '.NETFramework, Version-v4.0'.This can happen if the target framework is not installed or if the framework moniker is incorrectly formatted." .NET framework 4 v4.0.30319 is installed, and so is v3.5.All other projects build and work fine. Not all workstations experience this - some workstations can open the same solution without this problem occurring.Computers which have this problem also have VS2008 installed, and the same project compiles without issue in VS2008 on the same machine which has the problem in VS2010.

Developing MS Visual Studio Like Application Using MS Visual Studio 2005

Nov 27, 2009

I have to develop an application using MS Visual Studio 2005 or above with the following objective:

* The application should allow users to create as many new forms as they want and each form should behave like a MS Visual Studio WinForm. By saying that it should be a container for drag and drop of controls from the toolbox that I will develop....

* Once the user design's each screen to his taste by placing various controls on the form, he should be able to save the form as a screen. Of course I have to provide functionality for each of the controls such as if he drags a button on to the form, he should be able to specify what action it has to perfom when clicked when the application is put into run mode. Quite similar to regular windows form button.

* My application should have two modes: a DESIGN MODE, where user can drag, drop controls and specify what they should do when put into RUN MODE. This is quite similar to MS Visual Studio designer.

* Last but not least is to be able to access the application via the browser with the same look and feel his desktop version.
