View 3 Repliesi am trying to write a little program that checks for a process and kills is.here is the
Dim p As Process = Process.GetProcessesByName("Cheat Engine")(0)
p.CloseMainWindow()[code]...
My problem is its woking ,yes if the programm ,,Cheat Engine" is running the process is getting killed.But if the program is not running my program crashes.
I am using registry to check if a user has successfully waited out the time limit, but this can easily be bypassed by killing the process in task manager.Is there a way to see if it has been killed?
View 4 RepliesI have a vb application(1) which is made to launch another software(2) with specified parameters, but i wanna keep my application opened as long as the 2nd one is opened too, and I also want to close the second one automatically if mine has been force closed by the user in windows taskmanager, on the desktop, or in any way.
So I need something which detects if windows is closing the program and kill the second application auto.
I would like to avoid the task manager block, because that isn't necessary for this i guess.
i have wanna rebuild some protect for gaming programs..i need help in vb.net..when i run programs need know "how detected new programs?" and "how to detected malcious programs so my program not kill good programs?" [code]after using this got crash on programs and closing my project

View 3 RepliesI am working on a .NET console app which needs to clean up resources on exit. The problem I'm running into is that I don't get any notification if the cmd parent is closed via the console window [X], via Task Manager/Process Explorer or programmatically with WM_CLOSE. I can live with not being able to handle Kill Process from Task Mgr. or ProcExp. WM_CLOSE of the parent console is the most likely way that this application will be closed before it's finished processing.
Here are the events I've tried to register for so far:
AppDomain.CurrentDomain.ProcessExit += CurrentDomainProcessExit;
AppDomain.CurrentDomain.UnhandledException += CurrentDomainUnhandledException;
Console.CancelKeyPress += ConsoleCancelKeyPress;
Application.ApplicationExit += ApplicationApplicationExit;
[Code] .....
These events fire properly when I send a CTRL+C from the console or the application finishes uninterrupted. But none of them fire when the parent app (cmd console) is closed. (The parent/grandparent processes aren't CLR so I'm not sure I would ever receive those Disposed/Exited events. Those are just shots in the dark.) I've looked at some pInvoke stuff but I would rather not go down that road if .NET is an option. Is there a way to detect and handle a shutdown in these situations? I am open to any .NET, pInvoke/Win32/C/C++ solution. (Basically any way it can be done on the Windows platform.). I'm still working with .NET 2.0 so I can't use anything introduced in .NET 3.0+
trying to detect the process, if it is not running, then only run the process, but it still runs the process eventhough the process is still running :(
For Each Proc As Process In Process.GetProcesses()
Dim strProc As String = Proc.ProcessName & ".exe"
If Not strProc = "MemberSyncFBtoSQL.exe" Then
[Code]....
I have searched everywhere, and have not found an answer. I would like to know how to enable your form to detect if a process is started. Something like this:
If Process.Start("Process.exe") Then
MsgBox("Process is running")
Else
MsgBox("Process is not running")
End If
I was wondering if there is a way to log into a database when an application was killed using the task manager?
View 13 RepliesI am creating a game for my class, it is above the level that I know a bit, but I have learned a lot from creating it.
This is how it it works:
-Every time a timer ticks a picturebox is created and displayed on the form, the picturebox is added to a collection. These enemies then move down the form
-My character fires bullets, and when they hit the enemy the enemy and the bullet gets disabled and removed, but not from the collection
-I have another timer that when it ticks, a random number is generated between 1, and the enemy collection count, so that a enemy missile can randomly come out of an enemy
This all works, but after the enemies are hit and removed from view, bullets still get generated from spots where the enemies once where, so to me that means that the destroyed enemies still remain in the collection.
If I try to remove the picture box from the collection I get an error.
I am creating a game for my class, it is above the level that I know a bit, but I have learned a lot from creating it.My problem is that when my user (doctor) sends out a bullet and it hits the enemy (the enemies are generated into a collection), the picturebox is disabled and no longer visible, but that picturebox spot in the collection for all the enemies is still there.
So when I generate a bullet and shot it from a random enemy in the enmCollection, sometimes that random enemy is one that is already been killed.I tried using enmCollection.Remove(..) whenever the collision with the enemy and a bullet occurs, but it gives me an overflow error or another error.
I've been trying for a day now.Everything in the game works correctly except for this.

i created a windows blocker to prevent users access, and only give access to the computer for a certain time if they pay....In the block state taskmgr can not be accessed also no other method can close the blocker. but once the computer is unblocked for use it become vulnerable only to the taskmgr since i have to give access to the taskmgr when the program is not blocking access. Is there anyway to prevent my program from being KILLed in the taskmgr or is there a way to restart the blocker if the user KILLs the program?

I have written a windows service that is meant to launch a notepad when a specific action happens. The problem i have is that even though the service launches notepad, the actual notepad it self is NOT visible. I know that it has been launced because i can see the process in the task manager. By the way the process is listed as a SYSTEM process rather than a process under my user name (i believe that is because my process is a "LocalSystem" one).

The void pointer corresponds to enums or structures. I have to get this structures/enums on the vb.net dll end. I have mentioned about using pipe. My question is as what type the pointed to data can be send over the pipe so that I can easily handle the received data at the vb.net dll end.

View 2 RepliesMy app starts an On-Screen Keyboard process like this:
Dim PID as System.Diagnostics.Process
:
PID = Process.Start("C:WindowsSystem32osk.exe")
:
[CODE]...
It seems to work 90% of the time. However, sometimes the PID.Kill() fails because it says the process already exited. At this point the OSK is always still there on screen. Yes, I know my code should be testing to see if the process is still running before trying to kill it, but given that the OSK is still on screen..
I have a program that starts another program after setting the regkeys basically the program continually syncs the calandar of outlook and another application.I set the regkeys than launch the c:sync.exe app. I have tried a simple process.start and launching the process as a thread and they both do the same thing: The other process starts and works as it should but my main program goes "White screen" or "not responding" until the process.start has exited.
I want the process.start to run in the background so if users click in my main app it responds and truly that they can access the context menu of my main app from the taskbar while the process.start is running.
i want a code that if a process that i picked is no match in a process list that process that i picked will start

View 9 RepliesI am working on a small VB application that listens for commands sent from an Android app.
One of the functions is to extract an archive. I am familiar with how to listen for the unrar process to finish, so I can display a progressdialog on the phone while the extraction is happening, and clear it as soon as it's done.
BUT ... if there is an error/alert from WinRAR, WaitForExit() never gets called because WinRAR is still sitting there open until I click "OK" on the MsgBox.
For Example ... if you try to extract a file that is not actually an archive... an alert will pop up saying "No Archives Found", and basically everything is halted on the VB app and the Android app, and the Android app just sits on a progressdialog saying "extracting..." until you manually hit "OK" on the computer.
As you can imagine, this is a problem if the whole point of your app is to NOT have to go over to the computer.
So... I am wondering if there is something similar to WaitForExit() that will wait for an error and allow me to close out the alert and let the process end.
Here's my Sub for the UnRar command:
Private Sub UnRar(ByVal WorkingDirectory As String, ByVal filepath As String)
Dim objRegKey As RegistryKey
objRegKey = Registry.ClassesRoot.OpenSubKey("WinRARShellOpenCommand")
[Code]......
I have an issue using Process.MainWindowTitle,Process.MainWindowHandle on some older VB6 applications. After Process.Start I use Process.MainWindowTitle to display in a listbox. The MainWindowTitle returned is not the Window Title but in fact the Project name of the VB6 exe.? I also store the MainWindowHandle to use the ShowWindow and SetForeGroundWindow API's. It would appear that the ShowWindow API does not work, but the SetForegroundWindow does. ie: if the VB6 app is minimized, showwindow does not restore, if it is NOT minimized setforewgroundwindow sets it to the foreground. The exact same code does work correctly for any other .net exe or notepad, only on these vb6 programs I am having a problem.

I was wondering if this code could be better optimized for multithreading. What it does is open a process and loops through the data, there could be any range of files to open (so I would like to have say 2 or 3 processes at once):

I have a procedure (parent process) that starts several processes (child processes). The child processes calculate several array variables. How can I pass those arrays to the parent process? At the moment, the child processes write the arrays to a streambuilder and the parent process reads the stream. Is there a better way to do it? Is it possible to have the child processes write to RAM memory and have the parent process read from there? It is like declaring a global variable in the parent process and give the child processes access to it.
View 4 RepliesHow can i access a file through FileStream which is being used by a window service. Actually i am trying to access a file which is also being used by our window service. I need to read data from this file. I am using below code but also getting following error:
Code:
Dim fs1 As IO.FileStream = New IO.FileStream(psPath, IO.FileMode.Open, IO.FileAccess.Read, IO.FileShare.Read)
Dim sr As IO.StreamReader = New IO.StreamReader(fs1)
sData = sr.ReadToEnd
Error: The process cannot access the file 'FILENAME' because it is being used by another process.
I tried changing FileShare.Read parameter to FileShare.None but it didn't work out. I also read below post which says that it is not possible but i think there is a way to read it like if you open a file through Firefox but still window service is accessing it.
