VS 2008 Form Detect If A Process Is Executed?
Jan 8, 2010
I have searched everywhere, and have not found an answer. I would like to know how to enable your form to detect if a process is started. Something like this:
If Process.Start("Process.exe") Then
MsgBox("Process is running")
Else
MsgBox("Process is not running")
End If

I am developing a window application. I'm using Visual Studio 2005 and Mysql Database. The problem is, only one form is getting executed when I try to debug.I have changed the startup form to other forms(from a list of existing forms), but still that same old form is getting executed, even if I delete that form or exclude it from the project, it still keeps on executing.
Where this form is stored?(I deleted it from the folder where all other forms exist)

I have a project with 2 forms. I need the code to be executed on one form first, which is why it is run first, then I want to hide it and just display the user interface form. I have the following code, it makes both forms appear, but I only want the user display form to show: [code] I call both these subs in the frmLoad of the Processing form.

I am working on a .NET console app which needs to clean up resources on exit. The problem I'm running into is that I don't get any notification if the cmd parent is closed via the console window [X], via Task Manager/Process Explorer or programmatically with WM_CLOSE. I can live with not being able to handle Kill Process from Task Mgr. or ProcExp. WM_CLOSE of the parent console is the most likely way that this application will be closed before it's finished processing.
Here are the events I've tried to register for so far:
AppDomain.CurrentDomain.ProcessExit += CurrentDomainProcessExit;
AppDomain.CurrentDomain.UnhandledException += CurrentDomainUnhandledException;
Console.CancelKeyPress += ConsoleCancelKeyPress;
Application.ApplicationExit += ApplicationApplicationExit;
[Code] .....
These events fire properly when I send a CTRL+C from the console or the application finishes uninterrupted. But none of them fire when the parent app (cmd console) is closed. (The parent/grandparent processes aren't CLR so I'm not sure I would ever receive those Disposed/Exited events. Those are just shots in the dark.) I've looked at some pInvoke stuff but I would rather not go down that road if .NET is an option. Is there a way to detect and handle a shutdown in these situations? I am open to any .NET, pInvoke/Win32/C/C++ solution. (Basically any way it can be done on the Windows platform.). I'm still working with .NET 2.0 so I can't use anything introduced in .NET 3.0+

I have a problem concerning the Form_Loading event: When I want to load a new Form (ImageDisplay) the ImageDisplay_Load Event is not executed first.
Instead it runs through the global variables definitions and then executes a Private Sub called numericupdown1_changed.
The numericupdown1 field is part of the form I want to load and has not been touched.
That is my calling sequence:
Private Sub Dispalydata_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Dispalydata.Click
Dim myDisplay As New ImageDisplay
[Code]...
The strange thing is that for other forms in my code it works well and starts with the form_load function.

The documentation for an API I am using explicitly says that I need to call close() on an object when I am done with it. I would also like to log something there.I understand GC, might not happen at expected time, etc. etc. I still want to implement some code at cleanup.I read that I need to Override Finalize() to do this.I wrote a console app to test and it looks like it indeed works.However, this does not work with windows forms. I put a break point and it never gets hit in the Finalize method.How do you add some code to be executed at cleanup time for a window form?Here is my console app test:
Public Class Foo
Public Sub New()
Console.WriteLine("In Foo Constructor")[code]......

I used to write this:
Private Sub Example()
Static CachedPeople As List(Of MyApp.Person)
If CachedPeople Is Nothing Then
[code]....
But then wondered if I could reduce this to:
Private Sub Example()
Static CachedPeople As New List(Of MyApp.Person)
...rest of code...
End Sub
will the "New" bit only be executed once when the function is first executed but in the next call, it will already exist.

I am working on a program and for some reason when I run it as an executable outside of debug mode, if I run the main subroutine of the program, the process remains in memory after being closed. Even though the form is closed/gone, it will be in the process list and I have to ctl-alt-del to remove it. If I exit right after opening the form without doing anything, it closes like normal. I am closing and disposing everything I can think of, and I've never had this problem before. This is how I am exiting, but the problem also occurs if the user "X's" out.
Me.Close()
Application.Exit()
I have a couple web file requests in my program, which is the only thing out of the ordinary (code-wise) for me, don't know if those are the root of the problem. I can't imagine this is the first time this has happened to anyone, but I couldn't find anything helpful with my search terms. Any ideas/common solutions? I can post sections of my code if it will help, but the whole thing is pretty long and I couldn't narrow down any potential problem areas.

I have to get this structures/enums on the vb.net dll end. I have mentioned about using pipe. My question is as what type the pointed to data can be send over the pipe so that I can easily handle the received data at the vb.net dll end.
