Form Is Partially Executed Before Form_Load Event

Jul 9, 2009

I have a problem concerning the Form_Loading event: When I want to load a new Form (ImageDisplay) the ImageDisplay_Load Event is not executed first.

Instead it runs through the global variables definitions and then executes a Private Sub called numericupdown1_changed.

The numericupdown1 field is part of the form I want to load and has not been touched.

That is my calling sequence:

Private Sub Dispalydata_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Dispalydata.Click
Dim myDisplay As New ImageDisplay

[Code]...

The strange thing is that for other forms in my code it works well and starts with the form_load function.

I am developing a window application. I'm using Visual Studio 2005 and Mysql Database. The problem is, only one form is getting executed when I try to debug.I have changed the startup form to other forms(from a list of existing forms), but still that same old form is getting executed, even if I delete that form or exclude it from the project, it still keeps on executing.

Where this form is stored?(I deleted it from the folder where all other forms exist)

Ensure That Statements Are Executed In Order?

Mar 10, 2011

I have the following code which is part of a PA Call system: The 'SetPTT' nd 'DisableZones' statements set controls on the form where the code is. The LAPG2Coms.SetZones command starts another project within the solution to control an external controller. What I can't understand is why it executes the LAPG2 statement before SetPTT or DisableZones. The LAPG2 statement for messages is in the PlayMessage Procedure

VS 2010 : Make A Form With Multiple Buttons Opening Different Things Than Having A Form That Has Lots Group Boxes For Each Tab?

Jul 25, 2011

Is there a better way to make a form with multiple buttons opening different things than having a form that has lots group boxes for each tab. So in the begining each box will be invisible and when you click the button the corresponding group box will become visible. Is there any other way?It will be like a background image and it'll have buttons that will mask it with invisible buttons. when the button is clicked it will open the corresponding group box.

Add Some Code To Be Executed At Cleanup Time For A Window Form?

Jan 20, 2010

The documentation for an API I am using explicitly says that I need to call close() on an object when I am done with it. I would also like to log something there.I understand GC, might not happen at expected time, etc. etc. I still want to implement some code at cleanup.I read that I need to Override Finalize() to do this.I wrote a console app to test and it looks like it indeed works. However, this does not work with windows forms. I put a break point and it never gets hit in the Finalize method. How do you add some code to be executed at cleanup time for a window form? Here is my console app test:

Public Class Foo
Public Sub New()
Console.WriteLine("In Foo Constructor")[code]......

Calling Showdialog() On A Form - From The Main Form's OnLoad Event Makes The Modal Dialog Go Away After A Few Seconds?

Aug 7, 2009

I'm having an interesting issue that I can't reproduce on a different project, but can consistently on this one. I have no clue what might be causing it, but am hoping that someone may have seen it before.

I have a main form, from which I run a series of checks. On this form, I have a listview control. Because of some issues with the refreshing of this listview control, I had to create my own messagebox. It's just a form that displays some text ( it also happens to look nicer than MsgBox; in my opinion, anyways ). It's been working great for months, until recently.

My problem is that on my main form's load event, I run this check, which returns an error within a try/catch block. I then call my custom messagebox with a message. It in turns calls it's ShowDialog() function.

In any other situation ( after the main form has been loaded ), I have no problems. The messagebox goes on the screen and behaves appropriately ( ie: waits for my input and acts as a modal dialog ( stops execution of my main form's thread ) ). However, on this onload event, my messagebox comes up and goes away almost immediately afterwards.

I've traced it all the way to the showdialog() call. For no explicable reason, it appears to skip right over this call, without me doing anything on the form.

Here's what the inner trace looks like ( when I put a breakpoint on the onclosing event for this messagebox form ):

CODE:

.net - Form.Load Event Not Firing, Form Showing?

Nov 9, 2010

I fear that there is something obviously wrong with my code, but I have come across a situation where the Form.Load event is not firing when I create and show my form. The form is not subclassed (as I've seen some problems with that in some searches), and I am not getting any errors thrown when I step through the code in the debugger.

I have a break point set on the IDE-created form load function (which does have the Handles MyBase.Load signature suffix) but the breakpoint is never reached and the form does display and work. The form is passed three arguments in the constructor but the IntializeComponent() function is called before anything else is done.
