.net - XML Cleanup - Unmatched Tags?

Nov 29, 2010

I am trying to format xml entries I have so that I can use the xmltextreader without getting errors. I added a default header and footer in the event I notice there is no opening or closing tags. I remove illegal characters and check for unicode but I always find an issue where an entry slips in and gives the error:data at the root level is invalid and when I check that entry is slipped through the cleaning process or just has an unmatched tag somewhere. Now I use

Dim stringSplitter() As String = {"</entry>"}
' split the file content based on the closing entry tag
sampleResults = _html.Split(stringSplitter, StringSplitOptions.RemoveEmptyEntries)

to split my xml into individual entries before I start the cleanup process. Here are my default headers;

Private defaultheader = "xmlns=""http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom"""
Private headerl As String = "<?xml version=""1.0"" encoding=""utf-8""?>" & vbNewLine & "<entry " & defaultNameSpace & ">"
Private footer As String = "</entry>"

is there any tool in the .net framework that can detect and cleanup unmatched tags so that I can get this to work

VS 2008 - Upgrade/cleanup

Mar 10, 2011

I've had 2008 express on this PC since it came out -- I basically have ONE important project that now is being troublesome.

Just had an "unhandled exception" and "configuration system failed" -- errors I've never received before and I've just made minor changes to the program.

For one, I was thinking about a fresh install of 2010 express (but remember some real problems when I upgraded from 2005, so ??) be afraid ? very afraid?

ALSO --

What are the mandatory files I need to save in a project folder?

If I delete the bin and obj folders (plus?) and let it write new ones will that sometimes cure some problems?

What is a good way to SAFELY keep all your hard work but get rid of possible clutter and ?

Check Weather CD Drive Has Disc?

Apr 20, 2010

I need to check if the CD drive has a disc inserted, no matter the disc is blank or full.

I tried to get the IO.DriveInfo.IsReady, but a blank disc also return False. Then I tried to get the TotalSize, if there is no disc, it returns an exception tells drive is not ready, and if the disc is blank, it returns function error. How can I determine which error is responsible to the one which no disc is inserted? I should not check the error msg because it will change on different computer of different language.

Open And Close Disc Tray?

Jun 20, 2010

My cousin and I were discussing the difference between Java and VB.Net and I thought I would make a simple application to show him.

My form has two labels a numerical up and down component and a button.

I want to set it so when my cousin presses the button it will open and close his disk tray for the amount of time he chose using the numerical up and down.

I have tried making the program using a sample I have acquired but ti keeps throwing this error.

This is the error.

PInvokeStackImbalance was detected

Message: A call to PInvoke function 'WindowsApplication1!WindowsApplication1.Form1::mciSendString' has unbalanced the stack. This is likely because the managed PInvoke signature does not match the unmanaged target signature. Check that the calling convention

VS Relevant Tmp-file Missing After Disk-cleanup

Dec 23, 2010

After I ran a disk-cleanup (in my case AVG PC-TuneUp), the loading of my VB.net project gave error on a missing file.Changing the build-configuration (DEBUG->RELEASE->DEBUG) would recreate the file and all is OK. But I have basic configuration-info for the build, maybe in more complex cases some important details could be lost when the file gets deleted.I would think an information as critical as that, would be placed in the project folder, or be part of one of the many files that make up the project, but not in the temp-folder.

Add Some Code To Be Executed At Cleanup Time For A Window Form?

The documentation for an API I am using explicitly says that I need to call close() on an object when I am done with it. I would also like to log something there.I understand GC, might not happen at expected time, etc. etc. I still want to implement some code at cleanup.I read that I need to Override Finalize() to do this.I wrote a console app to test and it looks like it indeed works.However, this does not work with windows forms. I put a break point and it never gets hit in the Finalize method.How do you add some code to be executed at cleanup time for a window form?Here is my console app test:

VS 2008 Cannot Seem To Get A Working Filter In Working Order

Jun 18, 2009

It appears that my favorite thing in the world is tackling projects that are beyond my current knowledge and abilities. I have a little project that I am working on which is a simple image viewer stocked with (upon completion) your standard Load..., Next/Previous, Zoom In/Out, Actual Size, and Full Screen capabilities. However, I am running into a few snags:

(1) I've been able to get my "Load..." button to display a file dialog box, but I cannot seem to get a working filter (with which only image file types are allowed to be selected) in working order.

(2) I have a PictureBox object (entitled PictureBox1) that displays the image selected via the file dialog box, but it loads images in their full size (1:1/100% zoomed) state without scrollbars, etc. to allow me to navigate the loaded image. I would like to have it load the image, initially, to fit within the dimensions of PictureBox1 and from there be able to zoom in/out via my "Zoom In/Out" and "Actual Size" buttons and be able to scroll if the zoom level is beyond the dimensions of PictureBox1.

(3) It dawned on me that I haven't the faintest idea how to get my "Next/Previous" buttons to allow the user (me) to navigate, in succession, the images contained in the folder in which the currently loaded image is stored. [code]

If it is deemed that this thread is inappropriately requesting help, I ask that it be locked/deleted quickly as I recognize that this is a large community with many discussions going without need of unwelcome posts.

GDI Changes - Working With Vb.NET And GDI+

Mar 28, 2009

I am moving over to vb.NET and am experiencing the learning curve. Am learning quickly, but I do have a question for anyone who can respond. vb6 could be made to run much faster by going after the GDI API directly, rather than going through vb6's standard wrapped functions like Line(), and Circle(). Now that I am working with vb.NET and GDI+, as far as I can tell there is no wrapper anymore and you hit GDI+ directly "right out of the box". Is this true? It looks like trying to phenagle the old vb6 API code can't work because .NET does not use GDI anymore...it uses GDI+ via the System.Drawing namespace.
