Mar 17, 2012I have been staring at a blank screen for over an hour trying to figure out the best way to build this app. We have a warehouse with consumables. These consumables are stored on racks that are three rows high and 15 columns long. I need to display the contents of these racks with the following; Item nameUnit quantityUnit expiration date
Now while this in itself would be a simple thing, I need to . Take a look at this image, the lower portion of the image shows basically what I want to display as far as the form goes. Instead of the "Row 1-1-1" text, I want to show the item, qty and exp. There are multiple rows. It should also be noted that each location may have more than one item stored in it, and there might not be anything stored in it. So I guess my question is, from a design point, is it better to create a small table for each location and then join those tables to a main "Row" table since there will only be a single row displayed on the form at a time? How would it be possible to keep the data properly ordered from a coding perspective? How can I ensure that each storage location remains static unless the item is moved?
VS 2008 : Display Six Or Seven Lines Of Data For Each Device On The Same Screen?
Mar 2, 2010I have 20-30 devices that I am connecting to and gathering data from. I want to display six or seven lines of data for each device on the same screen, then allow the user to click the object containing the device and show more detail on a separate form. There aren't any other programmers where I work and am looking for advice on how most efficiently to implement this. I have tried TableLayoutPanels, Datagrids, Textboxes, ListBoxes and I am probably not implementing them right, but they don't seem to be getting me where I want to go. I am also trying to stay away from hardcoding objects onto the screen.

Using Command Buttons To Add Data To On Screen Table / Then Saving To Database
Apr 20, 2011i am creating a system where when a command button is pressed, it adds the data corresponding to that command button to a Table of the screen. And basically im at my wits end at how to do this, i have tried using SQL and databases but all i seem to be able to do is type data into the table and this is not what i want.Basically the table has 3 columns at the moment, which are filled in column at a time, and this need to be done by pressing command buttons. To explain this basically there are 8 buttons, which can be pressed to enter into the first column, once one of these buttons is pressed and second set of buttons appear which correspond to the second column and after one of these buttons is pressed the 3rd set of buttons appears to enter into the third column.Once the last button is pressed that is the first row filled in and the user can again press a button from the first set. Its basically a system for rapidly entering data into this table through the corresponding buttons.I have the buttons appearing and all that working fine, but thats basically just the layout. I need to know how to enter the data into the table.i have to use a SQL database, i only added that as at the end of the session, the entire table of data needs to be added to a master database but i can attempt this at a later date.

May 11, 2011I currently have a SQL Server database with a number of terms along with their definitions and the textbook chapter in additional columns of the database.In my application,I have a listbox which displays the terms; however, I wanted to allow the user to specify a lowerbound and upperbound for the chapters and the application would only display the terms between those two chapters. For example, the user inputs chapter 2 and chapter 5 and the application displays in the listbox all terms that are from chapters 2-5 inclusive.

May 4, 2012I'm creating a project for my brother's thesis for his VB subject.Now, the thing is, I'm trying to display row data from database to the (already binded) textboxes in form1. As you may know, this procedure requires that the program:
1. Declares an sqldatareader, sqlcommand, and an sqlconnection.
2. open the sqlconnection.
3. ....and use the sqldatareader to fetch the data from the source file.
The database file is made using sql server compact 3.5 and is located on same pc as where I'm making the program.The problem is, I'm getting stumped in trying to connect to the sql server. I'm getting a 26 error "error locating server/instance specified". installing sql server 2008 management studio to allow remote connections (which was already allowed in the 1st place), enabling TCP/named pipes protocol in the config manager, and enabling sql server browser service. I dont have spi firewall on since my isp has its own firewall on and xp fwall is off too. What I'm not sure about is my connection string as it might have been impeding me to connnect to server. How do I form out the correct connect string?
