View 4 RepliesI've been working with the substring command and after coding up all the things I needed it to do, I saw a post on here where the "For Each" statement was used basically to do the same thing.Lets say we just want to take a string apart one character at a time and add each character to a label. Which would be more efficient?I made a cheap example to show ...
Code:
ABinary = "0110 1100 0001 1011"
For x = 0 To Len(ABinary) - 1

User would be able to select any valid time. And Just Display the time selected by user in messagebox.. I am using VS 2003 1.1 framework.
we have a project in our school. we are going to create C like compiler. Our group will go going to use vb.net to make it happen. But our problem, we don't know how to read a character one at a time of every line if the user input the codes. here are some example input:

we get the output in the database. we don't know how to make it happen.
I am running Visual Basic Express 2005. I am trying to develop a program to send morse code out the serial port. I have created working code that can determine which character needs to be sent and toggles the RTS line on com 1 with the proper pulses. What I can't seem to figure out is how to be able to type in characters at a higher speed than they will be sent out the port, so as to be able to use the backspace key etc.

I want to be able to display the last modified date and time in the second column. I've tried Google, but I haven't had much luck. I'll post the code that I'm using at the moment, below.

I've already wrote a simple program for connecting to a serial port that can send data to the microcontroller, do some basic arithmatic and transmit it back to my Form. This was just to see if I could set up the conection.I have a PIC Microcontroller giving an 8-bit number thats is taken from an external sensor device.What I want to do now is to present this data from the microcontroller in a textbox as a number either in real time (as the sensor output changes) or if not possible, on request (using a button).
View 15 RepliesI am using Visual Basic 2008 for a Windows Form application. I have a PictureBox on the form that I need to display a series of 12 JPG files, one every four seconds. For the life of me, I cannot seem to figure out how to get the Timer control and its Click event to work.
In pseudo code, I need something as simple as the following:
1. show JPG #1 in picture box
2. 4 second delay
3. show JPG #2 in picture box
4. 4 second delay
etc.
I have a Timer on the Form set with Interval = 4000. I have a PictureBox. I have all the images in the Project. I am embarrassed to say that I have spent 4-5 hours searching the Web for sample code or something helpful, but am still stuck.
All the elements are there. It's just a matter of understanding how to pause the image displayed in the picturebox for 4 seconds before moving onto the next image in the series.
I've got a module for my program thats displays the active time and date, on a form. For some reason my code is incorrect and nothing happens when I run the form. Heres the code I have in the module:
Module ModDateAndTime
'Declares tmrdat as a timer with events
Public WithEvents tmrdat As Timer
'declares lbldat as a label
Public lbldat As Label
[Code] .....
And the code in the form's:
'declares lbldat as lbldateandtime
lbldat = lblDateandTime
The relevant label in the form is named lblDateandTime
Our MRP database stores time as a four character string.
0116
0845
1420

How to read a single character each time, from a text file using vb.net? I mean that if the txt file contains code as " my name is...".It should be read initially as :'m'..after some time it should show 'y'. then 'n'.'a'..'m'.'e'.like that..

I Have a problem whit my code.I want to receive 4 character variables (0-255) all the time and put them in the corresponding textboxes:
Public Class Form1
'Dim WithEvents Comm1 As New IO.Ports.SerialPort
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
Comm1.Encoding = System.Text.Encoding.GetEncoding("Windows-1252")
[code]....
I Want to send date when I want , but I want to receive data all the time (i want that textboxes 3,4,5,6 to update whenever data is comming an form is load).
I'm having a bit of an issue receiving a stream of serial data and displaying the data real-time in my GUI. I am fairly new to VB.Here's what I'm trying to achieve: I have an I2C device (bank of LED's) connected to my Arduino. Using the VB.NET (2010) GUI I request which LED I want on (via buttons) and the I2C device then sends a reply confirming which LED actually turned on (basic feedback). Ok, sounds great right? Here's where I get issues. Well when I try to read the serial data sent to VB and display the real-time stream on the GUI, a) I get a bit of a mess as an output (values are ok, just spewn across GUI) and b) when I select a new LED to turn on, the GUI data does not refresh to this change. The stream being sent from the Arduino is ok, I looked at the data in a serial monitor.

I have a variable which I called ElapsedTime. I press a button and it displays the time in seconds since clicking the button, into a label . I did it with HTML
Private Sub Timer2_Tick(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Timer2.Tick
LblElapsedTime1.Text = ElapsedTime
ElapsedTime = ElapsedTime + 1
End Sub
Private Sub BtnStart_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles BtnStart.Click
Timer2.Enabled = True
End Sub
This updates every second a bit like a simple stop watch. Great so far, because I do need the elapsed time (in seconds) for later use in my app. However, whilst elapsed time is being displayed in this label on the screen I want it to be shown in HH:MM:SS format. How can I convert it into a new variable " ElapsedTime2 " so that I can show it in the desired format yet still retain my original " ElapsedTime " variable for later.
Im trying to Assign the date to a text box without the time, using a button. i also want to be able to use the text box to enter a alternate date. i have found some basic..Basically i am making a form for personal use to help me do my paper work..[code]

am using visual basics to develop a search on my project using the date picker but any time i try to search for a date on my SQL database i received the following error message from my programme. "Conversion failed when converting data and/or time from character string "

View 2 Repliescmd.CommandText = "INSERT INTO Dropping (form_num, filing_date, approval_date, status) VALUES ('" + fnum + "', '" + deyt + "', '" + nulll + "', '" + stat + "')"
here is an sql query statement i run in vb.net. i keep getting the error of "Conversion failed when converting date and/or time from character string." whenever i try to execute this. the datatype of filing_date and approvale_date is "text" but the deyt variable is originally Date, converted to string: (Date.Today).ToString, like so. nulll is simply a variable with vbNullChar as its value.
I used to query:
Dim a As String
a = "INSERT INTO tblVisitor(Name, Sex, TimeIn, EnterDate)
VALUES('"& txtName.Text &"', '"& cboSex.Text &"', '"& Now() &"', '"& DateTime.Parse(cboEnterDate.Text) &"')"
[code]....
Which cboEnterDate is my DateTime Picker. Then I got the message:Conversion failed when converting date time from character string.
I'm looking for a way to convert a 5 character time representation to a date object. ie. "0937a" should be "6/16/2010 9:37 AM" or "1215p" should be "6/16/2010 12:15 PM".

View 1 RepliesI am busy with a VB2008 EXPRESS program that reads is data via a network cable. Saving the data on the same computer as my program is not a problem, but I must also make this data available to other users in the network and update their screens in real time. In other words I need a COPY of my running program on each networked computer when requested by the user in the network. I have looked at SQL, XML pages and inheritance. But I am confused, what is the best way???

The error is: Conversion failed when converting date and/or time from character string.Basically I'm trying to make it so that when someone clicks a location in a list box it increments the correct field in a Stats table by 1 to say that they clicked the location. I've been trying to solve this for a while now and can't get anywhere. My date is in date format, and so is the Date field in my Stats table. My code can be seen below.
Dim Current As String
Dim Check As String
Dim objCmd2 As Object

The issue comes in with the second SQL statement I think. I don't understand why adding a date into a date field would be an issue, I've tried adding it as a string which didn't work.
Dim i as integer
For i = 0 to 365
sqlinsert.InsertCommand="insert into cashdate (date) values (getdate()+'" & i & "')"[code]....
getdate is a function in the database that returns the datetime of now i have an error that says conversion failed when converting date or time from character string .what to do now ??
how you display a live or current date and time on a Windows for application.
I am working with Visual Basic 2008(VS Studio 2008).
Example: January 28, 2011 8:00AM.
I have several books, strangely this subject is not properly covered.
This is my
Private Sub lblDisplayDateTime_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles lblDisplayDateTime.Click
Dim currentDateTime As Date = #8/2/2007 1:02:00 PM#
[Code]....
Finally, how do I make the time load when the form runs? I can't seem to find an event, that allows the time to display when I run the form. Currently, I have to click the area containing the label to get the time to display.
