VS 2008 A From To Backup To A Drive From My Computer

Aug 19, 2010

A form that will have a drop down menu that will display the drives available in My computer. I really only want this list to show USB drives, but I wouldn't know how to limit the list to only show certain drive letters. And then how you would know what Drive letter would appear. So they would select there backup location from the drop down. Then the next option would be to select from 3 or 4 different different options that would have have radio buttons next to the options that you could select. Would be like: Playlists, Schedule, Media Library. They could select all or one of these. Each of these would represent a folder, or File that would be copied to a folder on the selected USB drive. Then the final button would be labelled Backup, and upon pressing that depending on what options were selected files would start to copy.

Now I know how to do the final copy part kinda, what I don't know is how to do is select the destination on the fly from what was selected in the drop down menu. And then how to make sure that what is being copied is that that is selected from the check boxes.

Creating A Backup Database To A Specified USB Flash Drive (Using Serial Number).

Apr 25, 2010

i have a question concering USB flash drives. I am building a Record Book with an Access 2007 database. When a user changes some information in the database i have built a procedure to create a backup of the database on a second hard drive. I was wondering if there is a way to find my USB flash drive serial number (either through coding or alternative ways) and specify that USB with that serial number as the location of the backup. As my program is at the moment, the backup is created from C to D. This can be a problem if on other computers there is no D drive or it's not a hard disk. By specifying the serial number to save the backup database to, should work on all pcs (theoretically). I am just not sure if this is possible in any way.

ListView Capable Of Displaying Files In All Available Views?

Mar 13, 2009

I have a ListView capable of displaying files in all available views (Large Icon, Small Icon, Tile, List, Details). Now I am wondering how to properly use the SmallImagelist and LargeImagelist for the small and large icons...the ListView is actually a modified listview (inheriting from ListView), using a modified ListViewItemCollection. In this custom ListViewItemCollection I use the Add override function to add a few details to my ListViewItem:

vb.net Public Overrides Function Add(ByVal value As System.Windows.Forms.ListViewItem) As System.Windows.Forms.ListViewItem
Dim file As clsTexture = TryCast(value, clsTexture)
If file IsNot Nothing Then

[Code]...

I realize it is a pretty complex post to read and will probably not get very many answers, but I really want to make the most of my Listviews...Of course, one work around is to just always use the LargeIcon which then gets scaled down automatically when the SmallImagelist is used but I am pretty sure there are icons that are very different in Large or Small view...

I've found a great example in C# here: [URL], however I am having a small problem converting to VB.NET (both manually and using a translator (online carlosag)). For example the syntax I would expect in the Add method is as follows:

C# - Burn A (Video) DVD In .NET Without 3rd Party Libraries?

May 4, 2011

Maybe this is a stupid question....I'm looking at a project that would require me to burn a video to DVD in such a way that a traditional DVD player could play it. I've found several '3rd party tools' that do this, which is great and the direction I'll probably take.

But, I can't, for the life of me, fathom how to sit down and write a video to DVD. I know this is largely academic (Just use the available libraries!) still, I'd really like some direction on how I would/could go about doing this myself.

TreeView Music Player - How To Rip And Burn CDs

Aug 29, 2011

I have written a hierarchical treeview music player that reflects the organisational structure of the music files on your disk drive. I just need to know how to rip and burn Cds using VB.net (without using any dependencies if possible). So far in my multi-media project, the only dependency currently is LAME.EXE for converting wave files to MP3 files - and even that dependency will go if I can successfully convert certain C++ listings to VB.

Create A Program Which Will Allow Users To Select Multiple Files From A List And Then Burn Them All To A Playable DVD?

Oct 24, 2011

I am trying to create a program which will allow users to select multiple files from a list and then burn them all to a playable DVD. It would be wonderful if i could setup a custom menu programatically as well. I have seen some documentation on Imapi 2.0 but i have not been able to find too much suppoert for it. I have also found a few SDK's out there but most are over $1000 which just isnt in the budget.

1) Is there a library included in windows 7 that will allow me to do this.

2) Is there an inexpensive or open source sdk with good documentation out there to do this with

Finding Physical Drive Number Using Drive Letter?

Jun 16, 2009

I have a program that allows the user to enter a drive letter into a text box. The program then takes the letter and find the physical drive number (i.e. deviceharddisk3..). It then stripes out everything and leaves me with the number 3.

In VB6 I used mDrive.bas from vbAccelerator.com and it worked perfectly. I have been all over the internet and back and cannot find a solution written in VB.NET.

Getting Physical Drive Number From Drive Letter?

Jun 17, 2009

I am trying to get the physical drive (device) number from the drive letter. If the user inputs the drive letter C the program will find the associated physical device number. For example if I input C then the result needs to be \Device\HardDrive1\... Some call it NT Device Name; I think. I have the code for VB6 from vbAccelerator, which works perfectly, but it does not work in VB.NET. My question is there a simple way of pulling the drive info that contains the drive letter and the physical device number. I have searched the internet and found nothing for VB.NET. I would post code but I have nothing for .NET.

Physical Drive Number From Drive Letter

Jun 16, 2009

I have a program I am converting from VB6 to VB.NET and I am stuck at the very last piece of code. I need to determine what physical device number is associated with the drive letter.

The program takes the drive letter from a text box and goes and finds the device number (i.e. deviceharddrive3...) and strips out everything leaving me with the devicer number; in this case the number 3. I have searched the internet to and fro and found nothing in VB.NET.

My program in VB6 uses a .bas module from vbaccelerator.com called mDrive.bas and works great. I can't figure out how to convert it over to VB.NET.

Forms :: Determine A Dynamic Drive Letter For A Directory On The Removable Drive And Then Open That Directory In An Explorer Window

Feb 19, 2009

First off a short background of the project I am working on- I am developing a program that will be run off removable media (i.e. USB Flash drive). This will be a virtual desktop which you will be able to take with you and have the same desktop on any system. As we know drive letters can change with each host system the drive is plugged into, I need to be able to determine the path for the flash drive and access a specific folder ( i.e. My Documents)

I have an picture box(representing the icon) placed on my form (form1) and when I click the icon I want to be able to open and view the a specific folder from the portable drive. I need a click event that will determine a dynamic drive letter for a directory on the removable drive and then open that directory in an explorer window.

Check If Logical Drive Is CD/DVD Drive

Jun 16, 2009

Is it possible to check if a Logical device gathered through a WMI search request is a CD/DVD Drive? Right now, I can get the path of every Win32_LogicalDisk through WMI, but E: (for me) is my DVD drive and unless there is a disc, my program fails because it tries to count the number of folders/files on the disc.

Ultimately, I'd like to be able to tell if it is a CD/DVD drive then check to see if there is a disc there before I do anything else to it. Can it be done using WMI?

Detect CD Drive Regardless Of Drive Letter?

I have a function that copies files from a CD to my HDD:CopyFiles(CD_Drive, FullPath & "")

The problem is that the Drive letter "I:" is not consistent. Sometimes when I connect and disconnect external devices, the CD Drive letter changes and then my code doesn't work unless I open the project, change the letter "I" and recompile. What code can I use that will ALWAYS detect my CD Drive, regardless of the drive letter? (Like for instance, NERO will detect and burn CDs regardless of the drive letter)
