Automatically Detect A Drive For Backup A Database?
Apr 4, 2012
i have here a code for my back up:
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Dim dbload As String = Application.StartupPath + "\Enrollment System.accdb"
i have a question concering USB flash drives. I am building a Record Book with an Access 2007 database. When a user changes some information in the database i have built a procedure to create a backup of the database on a second hard drive. I was wondering if there is a way to find my USB flash drive serial number (either through coding or alternative ways) and specify that USB with that serial number as the location of the backup. As my program is at the moment, the backup is created from C to D. This can be a problem if on other computers there is no D drive or it's not a hard disk. By specifying the serial number to save the backup database to, should work on all pcs (theoretically). I am just not sure if this is possible in any way.
A form that will have a drop down menu that will display the drives available in My computer. I really only want this list to show USB drives, but I wouldn't know how to limit the list to only show certain drive letters. And then how you would know what Drive letter would appear. So they would select there backup location from the drop down. Then the next option would be to select from 3 or 4 different different options that would have have radio buttons next to the options that you could select. Would be like: Playlists, Schedule, Media Library. They could select all or one of these. Each of these would represent a folder, or File that would be copied to a folder on the selected USB drive. Then the final button would be labelled Backup, and upon pressing that depending on what options were selected files would start to copy.
Now I know how to do the final copy part kinda, what I don't know is how to do is select the destination on the fly from what was selected in the drop down menu. And then how to make sure that what is being copied is that that is selected from the check boxes.
i was wondering if anyone body has used Chilkat Zip Component or any Chilkat compression in there project before.I am currently developing a small project used for drive and directory backups.i am looking at using a 7Zip Or Tar Compression as Chilkat supports theses.i was wondering if a Drive backup is capable or will it crash and burn?
I have a function that copies files from a CD to my HDD:CopyFiles(CD_Drive, FullPath & "")
The problem is that the Drive letter "I:" is not consistent. Sometimes when I connect and disconnect external devices, the CD Drive letter changes and then my code doesn't work unless I open the project, change the letter "I" and recompile. What code can I use that will ALWAYS detect my CD Drive, regardless of the drive letter? (Like for instance, NERO will detect and burn CDs regardless of the drive letter)
I'm trying to create a Windows Explorer like application, when a flash drive is connected/disconnected the application detects it and does some stuff. This is what I've accomplished so far:
Code:
Private Const WM_DEVICECHANGE As Integer = &H219 Private Const DBT_DEVICEARRIVAL As Integer = &H8000 Private Const DBT_DEVICEREMOVECOMPLETE As Integer = &H8004
[Code]....
One thing that this code does not do is detect when the driver changes from ready to not ready, e.g. if a CD is removed/ inserted into the optical drive or a memory card is removed/inserted into the card reader. How can I accomplish that?
I am making a program that will allow a user to use any USB flash drive as a key, that when inserted, will automatically (upon validation, of course) enter login and password data into web forms, applications, and maybe even Windows Logon. But first things first: how to I detect when a USB key is inserted into the drive, for instance, perhaps just detect the last/latest inserted drive?
In addition, does anyone know if there is a way to directly identify a flash drive, maybe based on a serial number?, rather than validating it from a file on the device?
I need to detect if a file exists within drive C: but I do not know in advance in which directory it should be located so this means that I have to search the entire disk. Is there a way to perform this process directly (through an existing method for example) or do I have to write code for getting the directory structure and search each directory?
I have made this program in which the user selects a number of directories and copies them all to an external drive. is there a way to detect when the user does something that involves writing data to the hard drive. When they do, I want my application to detect this and back up that file on the external drive as well so that the back up is always up to date.
How to detect USB Drive (Stick) when plug/unplug in real time ?ps like : show drive label in textbox , " if plugged text1.text = E: " and " if unplugged text1.text = "" " in real tim
I need to detect if a [blank] media (CD/DVD) is inserted into the D: drive for an internal software I'm writing. The drive is static as drive D:. How can I tell if media is inserted, first off, and secondly, is it possible to tell if it's blank?
I have found a few examples of this. basically instead of it watching only one folder, how would I have it watch any folder that's not named system32? I know I would need something similar to this:
It might not be the best and i'm currently finishing on adding certain features, commenting it fully and possibly tutorializing it, but if ur needing an object to detect drive connections and disconnections and a lil more, here ya go. This dll is "Events 'R' Us" It also contains some simple public functions - findDrives(driveType) will find on command all of a specific drive type and return a dictionary of values - byteConverter and getMB, getGB, etc..
will convert bytes to larger metric values - getPercentage will simply get percentage of 2 figures and return as decimaland i'll give away more soon, just wanna get this out now, see if anyone has any use for it, almost every thing that can error has an error event and thus far i can only get one to fire (if usb is pushed in and pulled out really fast over and over again, i know where it fires, it's no biggie at moment)
I want to make one Private Sub for all of my Linklabels. The only variable should be the text value of each individual Linklabel, since all the labels inherit different texts during my program.Lets say I have about 200 Linklabels of which 40 have specific texts. The other 160 have "Linklabel" as a text. How can I create a variable that refers to the text of the label in the code?
Would it be something like this?: Private Sub ActionForAllLinkLabels(ByVal something As something, ByVal somethingelse As somethingelse) Handles LinkLabel1.LinkClicked, LinkLabel2.LinkClicked,
I am starting a large project here at the office. This project will be an asset tracking software. If time permits I would like to be able to develop the system so that I could put a file on a flash drive and then insert that drive into a pc, run the file and then have all the information pulled automatically but this is where I have no clue as to where to start, how to pull this information automatically. I am also planning to have the ability within the program to generate and print barcodes and maintain the database internally, would I be able to do this with ado.net ? I maintain 4 locations, all together 15 servers and 400 plus nodes.
We have a weigh bridge connected to PC via serial port.A VB code fetches the data from serial port and puts it in clipboard, which can be used by other applications like SAP.
We have several different makes of weigh bridge at different locations, each with separate settings(baud rate, data bit, parity), hence we need to change the VB code each time a new make weigh bridge is installed.
can we write a generic VB code which can automatically detect all these settings and capture the weight?
I am trying to write a VB program to automatically detect and identify a particular device that will only communicate to my program when I have 2 or more devices plug into the USB port. One way of doing it that I can think of is to scan through the available port and do a write and read to identified the port. But that would take up a lot of time if I were to scan through say 5 available port.
before re-inventing the wheel, i want to ask you how i can do this best: I have a VB.Net application that uses a database connection to MS SQL Server 2005 (express version). There are users that input data with the application into the database lets say once to 2x an hour to once a minute. I want to do backups like this: Once a day or once a week (in the evening) a full backup, and whenever the program/user is idle for lets say 10 Minutes, i want to do an incremental backup (so that it does not take so long until he can work on after the backup).
There are no big security issues, just copying the backup data files to a network share / a different computer or server would be fine. i guess the average db size may be 300MB, but the daily increments about 1MB.
I have a program that outputs a series of items onto a form--an "invoice" if you would like. The problem is, when the user enters in more items than the invoice's size can handle the rest just disappears into the mysterious realm down at the bottom. Is there a way where I can make the label automatically detect items going in and create a vscrollbar or something similar so that it can accommodate it's size?
Im trying to create a small program using the "toaster popup effect". I have the working. My problem is , i have a basic webpage here ( http://www.pro-coders.com/latestthreads.php ) that displays all the recent threads thats created on my forum, so i want to make this popup when theres a new thread to alert the users. How could i code it to automatically detect if a new thread has been posted from the webpage ?
I am using vb.net and sql server 2000 for developing windows applications. I want to know how to take the backup of database for after each and every transactions. is it possible? if possible,
First off I am programming a hotel booking system for my college computing project. This consists of a bunch of windows forms coded in Visual Basic, and an Access database stored locally. The application gets information for the forms about customers, bookings etc... from the database.I would just like a way of making a complete copy of the database (.mdb) file and placing it into a user selected destination.
I want to backup and restore the database by using vb.net.I have a problem here..This dialogue box appear.
" [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Cannot open backup device 'C:Documents and SettingsSMy Documentssales.Bak'. Operating system error 5(Access is denied.). [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally. "
