I am trying to copy a directory structure and .txt files to a duplicate directory in a different location.
Example:
Source Location: \MyServerProjectsProjectA
This directory will contain .txt files in the following locations that will vary from project to project. So the locations would be unknown going in.
\MyServerProjectsProjectAdocsallfiles.txt
Windows Media Player has hosed up my library, making multiple copies of the same songs.I am looking at making a VB express app to search for duplicate files (songs) in my music directory, and allow me to delete or move.Where can I go learn about the files and directory controls I would need to use to point to the directory I want to search?
How can I combine multiple *.txt files in a specific directory into one txt file in another directory using VB.NET? (And to delete blank lines at the end of the new file)
I know how to do it in vbscript: Const ForReading = 1 Const ForWriting = 2 Set objFSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") Set objOutputFile = objFSO.CreateTextFile("C:logsimportoutput.txt") [Code] .....
For Each foundFile As String In My.Computer.FileSystem.GetFiles("C:Documents and Settings oeDesktopMy Music2", _ FileIO.SearchOption.SearchAllSubDirectories, "*.mp3") My.Computer.FileSystem.CopyFile(foundFile, "C:Documents and Settings oeMy DocumentsMy Music" & foundFile) Next
Error message is on the third line: The given files path's format is not supported. I have tried all variations to this without any luck.
I am using Directory.Getfiles(DirPath,"Pattern")to locate specific files in a folder. This works fine unless no files are found. How can I get my code to determine whether no files have been found?
In vb.net how do you check if a ANY directory exists inside a directory I would need to know if there is a folder inside the c:windows directory (WITHOUT knowing if there is ANY directory is in there).
I am trying to find a specific file in a specific directory and then i need to get the full path of the file.Is this possible i cant find any help topics about a specific file.
I'm trying to get files from a directory and all the sub directory's to show in a checked list box. This is my first time working with arrays?here is the code
Public Class add_to_play_list 'IO.Directory.GetCurrentDirectory & "\x"' Dim Home As String Dim Fi As New ArrayList
[code]....
I have a sansa fuze and i have to make my own playlist for it so i want to have the program read the songs that are on there and show it to you in the list box and you can check off the ones you want then it will read the mp3 files to make the playlist, it needs the path, name, and duration from the mp3 file. i can get the name and the path so far...
I have search system that works like charm: 1> Searches specific folder for text files which contain specific word 2> Puts those text file names and/or paths to listbox However i want it to put (instead of InputStr) the specific line where word is found in text file to listbox.
I am going to need to create a windows form for work that we can connect to a database table, select a directory and move files from the directory that are in the table and move to another folder. The directory will have sub directories that I need to search for the file name and move. I would like to have the table hold the file name (or path) and move all files that are in the database. There might be 20 files or 1000. Depends on the client we are processing for.
I'm doing a simple database thru VS2008 and Msaccess without using any builtin relationship between records, now i need to know how i can retrieve specific data from access using the oledbadapter or any, example seek if the value from the textbox1.text is already existing in msaccess table then msgbox "Record already exists.", note that the code is in keypress event of the textbox1.
So im trying to get evything that has ends with .iso into a list box, tryed a couple of things but not getting anywhere as yeat
Here is code.
Dim Locate As String = Application.StartupPath & "\Games\" ListBox1.Items.Add(Locate.EndsWith("*.iso"))
The Locate String is there because thats the location where the iso files are but the application is in the root of the drive. The ListBox1 command is fairly easy to understand
I am trying to create a program which will read the files that exist in a directory, and then write in a text file the specific information (full file name, date created)i have found several code in the site but i cant make it work, the machine i am running the code is XP and i am using VB2008.The code i have found is the following:
I don't know what I may have clicked on but, in Solution Explorer under My Project, there are now duplicates of Application.Designer.vb under Application.myapp. One is named Application.Designer.vb and the other is named Application1.Designer.vb. If I comment out the code on one of them them build works without errors.
However, if I delete one of them, I get a warning "The custom tool Application.Designer.vb failed while processing the file 'My Project.Application.myapp." but it still builds. If I click on the warning, a messsage window appears with "The last attempt to run the custom tool 'My Project.Application.myapp' failed. Would you like to re-run the custom tool?" If I click NO, the program builds. If I click YES, it adds the duplicate Application1.Designer.vb again the the errors are back.how to eliminate the errors and the warning?
I don't know enough about VB.Net (2008, Express Edition) yet, so I wanted to ask if there were a better way to find files with different names but the same contents, ie. duplicates. In the following code, I use GetFiles() to retrieve all the files in a given directory, and for each file, use MD5 to hash its contents, check if this value already lives in a dictionary: If yes, it's a duplicate and I'll delete it; If not, I add this filename/hashvalue into the dictionary for later:[code]Is this a good way to solve the issue of finding duplicates, or is there a better way I should know about?
I have a SQL Server table with a list of files (path + filename), and a folder with multiple layers and files in each layer. I'm looking for a way to reconcile the two without having to process the list twice. Currently, I'm doing this:
For Each f as FileInfo In FileListFromDatabase If f.Exists is False, mark it as deleted in the database Next
[Code]....
Is there a better way to do this? I'd like to avoid converting all the matching files (of which most will be) to FileInfo objects twice. Since I'm a T-SQL developer first, I'm picturing something like an OUTER JOIN of the two lists where they don't match. Something LINQ-ish?
i am trying to move a file (test.txt) from say from:[code]I understand from the MSDN forum, i can use this File.Copy(pathA, pathB) OR Directory. Move(pathA, pathB) where pathA = C:folder_ est.txt and pathB = C:folder_ est.txt
All I am trying to do is write a simple program that will let me choose a directory and get a listing of all files in that directory and its sub-directories and show it in a RichTextBox. I got as far as being able to select the directory but when I click "OK" I get "access to c:documents and settingsstevedesktopmp3 is denied".The code I am using is listed below.

Am writing a windows app using vb.net 2005. The app captures a string variable from the user. As each file within a directory is read, I want to match the stored string within each file. If I find a match to the string, I want a list box to be populated with the name of the file. I have added Imports System.Text.RegularExpressions and tried using the match collection.
For example: My direcotry has 5 text files. I want to match a string "PARENT" in the text of all these 5 files. The list box should output the name of each file where the string was found.
