I don't know what I may have clicked on but, in Solution Explorer under My Project, there are now duplicates of Application.Designer.vb under Application.myapp. One is named Application.Designer.vb and the other is named Application1.Designer.vb. If I comment out the code on one of them them build works without errors.
However, if I delete one of them, I get a warning "The custom tool Application.Designer.vb failed while processing the file 'My Project.Application.myapp." but it still builds. If I click on the warning, a messsage window appears with "The last attempt to run the custom tool 'My Project.Application.myapp' failed. Would you like to re-run the custom tool?" If I click NO, the program builds. If I click YES, it adds the duplicate Application1.Designer.vb again the the errors are back.how to eliminate the errors and the warning?
I got an error when I tried to open the designer for one of my forms in Visual Basic 2010 express and I had the option to ignore it so I clicked that (which I regret doing so much) and now my form is erased, but I still have the code for it.I tried right clicking and selecting show designer but it just brings up a blank form. I had a datagrid control called "DataGrid1" and when i tried adding a new control to the blank form it says that "DataGrid1" already exists but it doesn't.So after I resolved the first 85 errors I got one more that doesn't make sense:
Error 1 The item "objx86DebugWindowsApplication1.frmMain.resources" was specified more than once in the "Resources" parameter.Duplicate items are not supported by the "Resources" parameter.
I am trying to copy a directory structure and .txt files to a duplicate directory in a different location.
Example: Source Location: \MyServerProjectsProjectA This directory will contain .txt files in the following locations that will vary from project to project. So the locations would be unknown going in. \MyServerProjectsProjectAdocsallfiles.txt
I don't know enough about VB.Net (2008, Express Edition) yet, so I wanted to ask if there were a better way to find files with different names but the same contents, ie. duplicates. In the following code, I use GetFiles() to retrieve all the files in a given directory, and for each file, use MD5 to hash its contents, check if this value already lives in a dictionary: If yes, it's a duplicate and I'll delete it; If not, I add this filename/hashvalue into the dictionary for later:[code]Is this a good way to solve the issue of finding duplicates, or is there a better way I should know about?
Every .NET project I've worked on uses an app.config file for its configuration. Fair enough. "is there a better way?" (in the spirit of continual learning of course)I guess my specific questions are:
Does it matter either way if I use app.config or settings file? Are there any scenarios where settings files should not be used e.g web sites where you should use a web.config instead?Other than not having to edit xml, are there any other benefits gained by using settings instead of app.config, e.g. its easier to deploy or maintain apps etc.
Clarification: I'll put this question another way: Can I completely ignore app.config files if I want to and keep all the configuration in a settings.cs file and interact with configuration via the designer only?
If I look in resources.designer.vb in solution explorer, I see the code for an icon called circleIcon:Public ReadOnly Property circleIcon() As System.Drawing.Icon..[code] End Property However, if I look in resources.resx or in the project properties resource tab, the icon is not there. If I try to add it using the resource tab (add resource), it says it is already there. How do I get the resx and designer files to match. How do I remove this circleIcon properly if it is not in the resx file.
Windows Media Player has hosed up my library, making multiple copies of the same songs.I am looking at making a VB express app to search for duplicate files (songs) in my music directory, and allow me to delete or move.Where can I go learn about the files and directory controls I would need to use to point to the directory I want to search?
I have cooked up my first iteration of a code generator which creates the basic Entity models from a SQL Database Schema. Currently, It will scan a SQL Db Schema, and create .vb code files complete with private members and Public property declarations for every User table in the Database. My next step is having it add the basic CRUD procedures as well. Are we mere mortals able to access whatever technology allows the Partial class files created by vs to be hidden/Linked to their "parent" files, such as the Partial Class files for Windows forms or any other designer-generated control? My thinking is that it would be handy to be able to re-generate code files from the database if necessary to reflect changes in the schema, without overwriting any other properties or methods added to a class in addition to those derived from the database. SO I am hoing I can have the Auto-generated output go to a Partial Class file, and then use a regular class file of the same name for the rest of the code. My Concern is the multiplicity of files that might result, so I was hoping it is possible to "tuck them in" to the parent code file in the Class View.
I have a VB.NET project in Visual Studio 2008 that I created a specialized addin for. The addin prompts the user to select a database table, takes a template form class's files, copies them to another directory within the project, and renames the form class within the copied files. It then opens the new form and adds controls to it based on the fields in the database table.
The copying of the template form causes the background compiler to give 'duplicate member' errors, such as "Private Sub InitializeComponents(...) has multiple definitions with identical signatures," even though I renamed the files of the new form and the class name within them. Sometimes these errors go away before the new form is opened, but when they stick around the new form doesn't open correctly, and it throws an error instead. I implemented some code to wait until there are zero errors in the error list before trying to open the new form. This has helped sometimes, but for some reason sometimes the errors don't go away at all until the addin is closed.
How to copy the template form and rename the copy without the background compiler ever noticing duplicate members. If that's not possible, then perhaps someone has an alternative?
Here is my code that copies and renames the template form:
Private Sub CreateDataForm(ByVal tableName As String, ByVal displayName As String) ', ByVal subDataForms As IList(Of Object)) Try Dim dataFormClassName As String = "frm" & MakeValidName(displayName) Dim dataFormFileName As String = dataFormClassName & cVBSuffix
I am attempting to update an existing winforms application, that was created with a dataset control on all the winforms pages. I have ported it from VS 2008 to VS 2010 and I need to update the database section and connect it to the SQL backend using traditional code method. In the Solution explorer, when I click on the Dataset files, and click "Exclude From project" I am unable to build the project. Is it advisable to comment out the code lines that refer to the dataset in the .designer.vb files?
I am working in Visual Studio with a solution containing multiple projects. The solution is based on a co-worker's computer. I am trying to build the project, I get the following error:
Error 17 Unable to open module file 'C:DocumentsVisual Studio 2010Projects ReportCreatorMy ProjectApplication.Designer.vb': The system cannot find the file specified. C:DocumentsVisual Studio 2010ProjectsBlahBlahBlahReportCreatorMy ProjectApplication.Designer.vb 1 1 ReportCreator
It is on my co-worker's computer, but I don't see it in source control. He has ReportCreator checked out. How do I create Application.Designer.vb?
I've been trying to complete a program that I have to write for a class but keep getting an error that when double clicked, takes me to the Application.Designer.vb screen. The error that shows up in the Error List is "Employee' is a type in 'WindowsApplication1' and cannot be used as an expression." The resources I've tried to use (book and web) have been no help. Does anyone know what needs to be done to correct this error so I can test my program and correct any other possible errors? I can also provide the code for the program, if that will be any help. Here is the code that shows up in the Designer window:
I am using the following code in the 'Application.Designer.vb' to set one of the two forms as the the mainform for my splash screen. The global string array gSetupStr(0,1) only produces a correct result when any Msgbox is inserted before the 'If' statement. However,I do not want the Msgbox during a splash screen, but do want to control the mainform. [code]
I have this data in txt file and the data keeps changing all the time.

I would like to read all lines and compare, if the same name and same address is found, which is in the [......], then i need to count it and show the most frequent buyer!should i read it all and put in array, and compare and put the duplicate data and count into another array?
I have a List object and I want to remove the duplicated items but leaving at least one of the duplicated items in the list;I wrote something like this however I would optimize this code for better performance, is there something faster?
Const chars As String = "ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz" Dim rnd As New Random() Dim mylist As List(Of String) = Enumerable.Range(1, 100).Select(Function(i)
i am new to visual basic and have recently made a quiz with 16 forms. I have built the project but when I attempt to email it (with hotmail) the person at the other end recieves it but then as he recieves it the following message is displayed "Cannot download the application. The application is missing required files. Contact application vendor for assistance."
I published an application and copied the Application Files Folder ,setup.exe and .application file to a network folder for others to install on their machines. What causes this message to appear. Should'nt the new version over write any previously installed version on a machine. Although in this case no other version has been installed. You cannot start application...from this location because it is installed from a different location
My self and most everyone else on our team is having the same issue with VS2008. The designer will not render many forms in designer mode. Currently I am getting this error "The type 'Team.CAD.UI.My.Resources.Resources' has not property named 'view_16'" Well veiw_16 is in the resouces file.
I designed an application with vb2010 and i would like it to run on a Windows XP platform without the trouble of installing the .NET framework 4.0 and the VBPowerpacks module. I tried copying the DLL files of what i needed and placing them in the application folder, but it didnt seem to work. Well i did my test on an old XP, SP2 platform.
I need to associate files with my application. I found this code:
Public Sub AssociateExtension(ByVal extension As String) Try Dim fileTypeName As String = extension.Substring(1, extension.Length - 1) My.Computer.Registry.ClassesRoot.CreateSubKey(extension) _ .SetValue("", fileTypeName, Microsoft.Win32.RegistryValueKind.String) My.Computer.Registry.ClassesRoot.CreateSubKey(fileTypeName & "\shell\open\command") _
i have some text files from which my app reads and process data, these text files are in hundreds and i am now providing them in a folder, but these should not be accessed by others, how i can do this?
VB.net 2008 build and publish. The application cannot publish as it cannot find the files. I down loaded the MS exe that installs it, but, I need to load them into the same folder as the install package.I looked at the folder: Microsoft SDKs/v6.0Aootstrapper/packages and transferred the folders but they do not contain the files. One of the errors on build is as follows <error> Error32The install location for prerequisites has not been set to 'component vendor's web site' and the file 'DotNetFX35dotNetFX30NetFX30a_x86.msi' in item '.NET Framework 3.5' can not be located on disk. See Help for more information.WindowsApplication1.
Basically I want to create a little program with 5 or so text fields where I enter the specific names of movies. Upon pressing a "go" button it then does a google search(with certain criteria) for all textfield entries on the website [URL} and then download the files, if possible without opening a browser.
Search criteria: -only video formats(.avi .mov etc) -download url contains the "_de" tag (to insure german trailers)
That way it should hopefully find the right trailer and download it. If possible have it use progress bars.
How much work do you think this is? Or is it even possible? From a logical standpoint I don't think it's too much work... I am using Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Express Edition. My project currently is just full of test code but I will post it anyway:
Code: Public Class Mainwindow Private Sub Mainwindow_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
ifference between Japanese operating system and English operating system when launch an application that be created base on .NET 3.5 framework. Develop computer:
Operating system : Windows Vista, Japanese edition Developing environment :Visual Basic 2008
Run computer:
Operating system : Windows XP SP3, English edition
Both 2 computers are up to .NET 3.5 framework. The application ran well on Japanese edition OS computers but when I tried to launch on English edition OS computer, there was an error described : See the end of this message for details on invoking just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.
************** Exception Text ************** System.Configuration.ConfigurationErrorsException: An error occurred creating the configuration section handler for system.xml.serialization/xmlSerializer: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. --->

I guess this error is result of not able to reading from XML file that includes Japanese words. These words are defined as string.
I need to make a windows application to upload files (jpg) that are on my computer to a web host. I have tried various codes I found on the web but none of them worked.Does anyone have a working code to do this? Maybe in VB.NET or C#.
