Mar 10, 2009
If I look in resources.designer.vb in solution explorer, I see the code for an icon called circleIcon:Public ReadOnly Property circleIcon() As System.Drawing.Icon..[code] End Property However, if I look in resources.resx or in the project properties resource tab, the icon is not there. If I try to add it using the resource tab (add resource), it says it is already there. How do I get the resx and designer files to match. How do I remove this circleIcon properly if it is not in the resx file.

I have a resx file called Resources1.resx and this file is location in the class library Test.WebControls, this is how i am trying to get the values from the resx file using vb.net.
[Code]...
But I keep getting an error "Could not find any resources appropriate for the specified culture or the neutral culture. Make sure "Resource1.resx.resources" was correctly embedded or linked into assembly "Test.WebControls" at compile time, or that all the satellite assemblies required are loadable and fully signed." The resx file is embedded as resource as well.

This may take some explaining but the concept is pretty simple. A user will select a file which contains data that they wish to extract from, so keeping it simple they pick a file like so:
[Code]....
So, I need to show the user the file, allow them to select a line to match and/or extract from. So they select the first line ready for a match, they then select a word/s to mark as a constant for matching, so in this case it would be: MyGroup A simple version for text match would be like "MyGroup *" Now, I need to convert this to regex dynamically (I assume its the best method), its not a one off, the data that is selected is all open and up to user selection. There could be multiple selections and multiple extractions on the same line!
[Code]....

Every .NET project I've worked on uses an app.config file for its configuration. Fair enough. "is there a better way?" (in the spirit of continual learning of course)I guess my specific questions are:
Does it matter either way if I use app.config or settings file? Are there any scenarios where settings files should not be used e.g web sites where you should use a web.config instead?Other than not having to edit xml, are there any other benefits gained by using settings instead of app.config, e.g. its easier to deploy or maintain apps etc.
Clarification: I'll put this question another way: Can I completely ignore app.config files if I want to and keep all the configuration in a settings.cs file and interact with configuration via the designer only?

I don't know what I may have clicked on but, in Solution Explorer under My Project, there are now duplicates of Application.Designer.vb under Application.myapp. One is named Application.Designer.vb and the other is named Application1.Designer.vb. If I comment out the code on one of them them build works without errors.
However, if I delete one of them, I get a warning "The custom tool Application.Designer.vb failed while processing the file 'My Project.Application.myapp." but it still builds. If I click on the warning, a messsage window appears with "The last attempt to run the custom tool 'My Project.Application.myapp' failed. Would you like to re-run the custom tool?" If I click NO, the program builds. If I click YES, it adds the duplicate Application1.Designer.vb again the the errors are back.how to eliminate the errors and the warning?

I'm trying to search files for matches, and depending on what catagory the match is under, do a certain function... Say I have a .txt file that looks like this
[Code]...
Then I have a form with Button1 and Textbox1. Say I type "Cat" into Textbox1 and press Button1. It would then bring up a MsgBox that says "Match found under Animal catagory". But if I put "Three" in Textbox1, the messagebox would say "Found under Numbers catagory".

I have cooked up my first iteration of a code generator which creates the basic Entity models from a SQL Database Schema. Currently, It will scan a SQL Db Schema, and create .vb code files complete with private members and Public property declarations for every User table in the Database. My next step is having it add the basic CRUD procedures as well. Are we mere mortals able to access whatever technology allows the Partial class files created by vs to be hidden/Linked to their "parent" files, such as the Partial Class files for Windows forms or any other designer-generated control? My thinking is that it would be handy to be able to re-generate code files from the database if necessary to reflect changes in the schema, without overwriting any other properties or methods added to a class in addition to those derived from the database. SO I am hoing I can have the Auto-generated output go to a Partial Class file, and then use a regular class file of the same name for the rest of the code. My Concern is the multiplicity of files that might result, so I was hoping it is possible to "tuck them in" to the parent code file in the Class View.

I am attempting to update an existing winforms application, that was created with a dataset control on all the winforms pages. I have ported it from VS 2008 to VS 2010 and I need to update the database section and connect it to the SQL backend using traditional code method. In the Solution explorer, when I click on the Dataset files, and click "Exclude From project" I am unable to build the project. Is it advisable to comment out the code lines that refer to the dataset in the .designer.vb files?

This is a question about creating localized resources for VB projects.
I can easily add resource strings to the file resources.resx. To localize these strings, I need to create a localized version of the resource file, for example resources.de.resx for German.
I actually created a localized resource file by hand in the "My Project" directory and tried to added it to the project (via "add existing item"). To my surprise, it copied the file down into the main project directory.
Normally I would keep original resx file and the localized resx file in the same directory.
Am I missing something, or is the resource support in "My Project" not thought through with regard to localization?

Protected Sub SubmitClick(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs)
(...)
If (... AndAlso ...) Then
SetError(Resources.system.groupNoAdminTran)
End If
End Sub
My problem is that no matter how I try to unit test this, the test will fail when the SetError is hit with a:"Could not load file or assembly 'App_GlobalResources' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified."

I've a very strange problem with the localization and the default language resx file.I can add a string entry in the file with no problem. After moving or resizing any of the object in the form, the default resx file, resets itself and then my entry is deleted.Has anyone had the same problem??Unfortunately I can't attach a test project I made, 'cause of some security policies of my network. This is the list of operations you have to do, in order to replicate the problem:create a new windows form project;add any object (ie button) and then change its text property to "Example";set the form's property Localizable = Trueselect one of the language in the form's Language property;change again the text property to "Example 2";get back to the "(default)" entry of the language property;open the Form1.resx file then add a string entry, finally save it;try to move or resize the object into the form and then open again the Form1.resx file. You'll se the entry just for a while and then the file resets itself.
