View 1 RepliesI am attempting to update an existing winforms application, that was created with a dataset control on all the winforms pages. I have ported it from VS 2008 to VS 2010 and I need to update the database section and connect it to the SQL backend using traditional code method.In the Solution explorer, when I click on the Dataset files, and click "Exclude From project" I am unable to build the project.Is it advisable to comment out the code lines that refer to the dataset in the .designer.vb files?

I get this error message when running an application developed in VB. It used to works fine but for some reason it was asking to update ODBC but after that it cannot read the dbf file any more. The error message is speicified driver could not be loaded due to system error 126 (Microsoft dBase Driver (*.dbf)).Even I installed this visualFoxProOledb.exe and also MDAC 2.8 it still doesn't work.

I have recently started playing with sockets, so now i have set up an instant messaging app. it works like it's supposed to however, theres a slight problem. short of arranging for both parties to come online via email or something there's no way for the other person to know that someones waiting for them. So i'm basically looking for a way to send a pop-up message to tell the other dude to get his ass online,is there a way to display a message on a target pc's screen without a client application running and actively listening for an incoming command?

If I close all open designers and rebuild the project I am then able to open the designers OK.I saw a suggestion to 'restore file associations' in Visual Studio and tried this but with no success.

I click OK and program still fine. But when i change the designer file then that msbox is shown.
I am building a Setup project for a Web system using Visual Studio 2008. I upgraded my development machine from Windows Xp to Windows 7. The problem started with Windows 7. Whenever I try to build I get the above error. I ve tried several solutions given online but I ve failed to get a solution. When I transfer the system to a machine running Windows Xp or Windows 2003 Server it builds successfuly.

I don't know what I may have clicked on but, in Solution Explorer under My Project, there are now duplicates of Application.Designer.vb under Application.myapp. One is named Application.Designer.vb and the other is named Application1.Designer.vb. If I comment out the code on one of them them build works without errors.
However, if I delete one of them, I get a warning "The custom tool Application.Designer.vb failed while processing the file 'My Project.Application.myapp." but it still builds. If I click on the warning, a messsage window appears with "The last attempt to run the custom tool 'My Project.Application.myapp' failed. Would you like to re-run the custom tool?" If I click NO, the program builds. If I click YES, it adds the duplicate Application1.Designer.vb again the the errors are back.how to eliminate the errors and the warning?
My self and most everyone else on our team is having the same issue with VS2008. The designer will not render many forms in designer mode. Currently I am getting this error "The type 'Team.CAD.UI.My.Resources.Resources' has not property named 'view_16'" Well veiw_16 is in the resouces file.

When I develop a Windows Forms app in Visual Studio using C#, every control that I add to my form is by default marked as private, which is what I want.
When using VB.NET, every control is by default marked as Friend (the equivalent of internal in C#), which is not what I want.
Can I just change this default? It seems like surely it's a setting somewhere.

I've been trying to complete a program that I have to write for a class but keep getting an error that when double clicked, takes me to the Application.Designer.vb screen. The error that shows up in the Error List is "Employee' is a type in 'WindowsApplication1' and cannot be used as an expression." The resources I've tried to use (book and web) have been no help. Does anyone know what needs to be done to correct this error so I can test my program and correct any other possible errors? I can also provide the code for the program, if that will be any help. So I created Form2 specifically showing "Opening Port...". So in Form1_Load() I used Form2.Show(). However this message showed behind of Form1. View 2 RepliesI've created a component whose name I'd like to be able to change while editing in the component tray. I've added a Designer action for a name property, but now I'm stuck.
Looking at the property grid, I can see that the name property is parenthesised, indicating that it's not a regular property.
I have found this amazing control that does exactly what I need, only problem, its in C#. Does anyone know of a VB version of this code? I've tried using converters, but all of them have failed in successfully converting the project. Maybe one of you guys knows how to convert it?

I am writing a support application and want to send alerts and messages to the applications to show the user.
Example: Application opens at start-up, I post an alert of an upcoming network outage, the user gets a notification in the task-bar that when clicked will open the full message in my application.
