But that only allows me to open specific files. Can I make it so I can open a folder?

View 1 RepliesAm writing a windows app using vb.net 2005. The app captures a string variable from the user. As each file within a directory is read, I want to match the stored string within each file. If I find a match to the string, I want a list box to be populated with the name of the file. I have added Imports System.Text.RegularExpressions and tried using the match collection.
For example: My direcotry has 5 text files. I want to match a string "PARENT" in the text of all these 5 files. The list box should output the name of each file where the string was found.
what is probably a very stupid and basic question, I'm new to Visual Basic I currently coding a program which deletes specific files that are part of a game. It finds and deletes all the files in the "program files" directorys but there are also certain files in My Documents that must be deleted.
The problem is the filepath to My Documents includes a username which is unique to different users, meaning on any other pc the program will not work.
The path on my computer is: C:UsersShaneDocumentsElectronic Arts
How can I get the program to find this folder on other computers? I'm totally lost.
I get mixed results in Google, so I'm wondering how can I simply launch a ReadMe.txt file in Notepad thats in the same directory as my application?

View 2 RepliesSo I open files and do whatever with them right. I've set the initial directory to equal the last directory, but whenever I open multiple files, it never sets the directories properly. It acts as though nothing was opened there, so it takes the previous directory as the last one. Thoughts on what's not working? Here's the code.

I have multiselect enabled earlier and everything else works but this. When you open a single file, the last directory works fine. It only happens with multiselect.On another note, does anyone know why it freezes when I try to do a lot of files and use another program? I opened 700+ files to see what would happen. When I switched to a IM convo, it froze. When I left it to run, it worked.
im having trouble opening adobe from my coding, also is my file ok or do i need to call from its folder location within the program.i need to be able to open a specific .pdf file from a whole range of file located in the program.what im getting the user to do is press 1 of about 14 buttons to select a brand. then in textbox1,enter the first part of the file name so in this case a274 (adobe runs in .pdf format so the file would be a274.pdf).at the moment i get a win32 error high lighting startinfo as the problem so im thinking its the adobe.exe is the problem. I want to combine them to save all unique directory names, and unique file names, and if the date/sizes are unique, then add some number on the end of the file name to make them unique as well.
