Make A Program That Searches For A Specific File In A Specific File?

i'm trying to make a program that searches for a specific file in a specific file, so when the program loads it "writes" in checked list box the names of the drives installed to the computer, but what i want to do is: when the user checks the box, i want it to search for the file in that drive, but i don't know how to do it...
I'm using:
Imports System.IO
Imports System.Collections.ObjectModel
Public Class Form1

I am creating a class that searches a binary file for a specific customer number. I am using a binary search that keeps on slicing the file in half until I find the customer number while is sorted. Once it finds it I am positioning it at the first instance of that Customer number as there can be multiple records with the same Cus Number.
Now here is my question. I now need to loop through this Customers records and do some data base searches. Since I want to make my class as generic as possible what should I pass back to the calling class? An Array with all their records. If I do this I have to loop twice, once in the class and once when it passes the array bac to the original calling class?

I wonder if it is possible to find a specific row and specific columns in data base file (Access) . You see , I am using a DataGridView control to show only SOME of the columns (fields) of a table from an Access file . For example , lets say that in the DataGridView control I only show the following fields :Field1 , Field2 and Field3 .Now , when the user selects an entry in the DataGridView control , I want to insert the text from Field4 into a text box on the form .
The problem , however , is that I don't know how to get the specific row in the data base file and also I don't know how to get the text in column (field) Field4 of that row .One thing that might be important is that the index of the row in the data base file is not necessarily the same with the index of the current row in the DataGridView control . This is because in the DataGridView control the rows are order by the contents in the ID Field .ol .

im having trouble opening adobe from my coding, also is my file ok or do i need to call from its folder location within the program.i need to be able to open a specific .pdf file from a whole range of file located in the program.what im getting the user to do is press 1 of about 14 buttons to select a brand. then in textbox1,enter the first part of the file name so in this case a274 (adobe runs in .pdf format so the file would be a274.pdf).at the moment i get a win32 error high lighting startinfo as the problem so im thinking its the adobe.exe is the problem. I want to create a program in vb .net that let me know who is using a specific file? Because I often update an .exe file but if it's in use I can't overwrite it. So if I know who is using the .exe I can call him to tell him o close the app.

I got some set of base classes within one namespace and few sets of derived classes in other namespaces. Everything in one project.[code]...
OK, it can be done declaring .SubElements as Protected in BaseElement class. But in this case I cannot access this property from other classes in Base namespace that are not derived from it.
I tried adding Friend keyword, but it made this property visible when I'm instantiating derived classes too.
So... any way to hide some properties when using derived classes while being able to use them using base class?

Is it possible with VB .NET to make the program use specific regional settings? More precisely , I want to make my application always use the English regional settings (those defined from Control panel > Regional settings) in order to always use (and calculate) the decimal numbers by using the dot symbol ( . ) as decimal separator , regardless the settings on the current PC (in order to avoid forcing the user to change his Regional settings) ?

I have a windows form which to summarize lets the user open a file containing 32 bit hashes, then search for one of them. The hash is then converted to its string representation. The application is giving the results I would expect but I'd like to make it execute faster than it does now; some files can be pretty big > 100 MB.
I'm doing the file read using a BackgroundWorker object to display progress updates and ensure that the UI is available during the process. But for that i need to add a System.Threading.Sleep(1) instruction in the loop; otherwise the application freezes with big files. And System.Threading.Sleep(1) creates a noticeable lag. Any suggestions on how to make searches fast without freezing the UI? Getting speeds comparable to hex editor programs for example.

I will have a directory of files (IFO, BUP, and VOB; DVD files for anyone who cares), I need to find the first one by sorting these like this: Filter out everything that does not have a .VOB in it, then find the one like this VTS_**_1.VOB. It will always have a "1" before the extension, but the two numbers before that change, lastly I need that file returned as a variable.

Hi, i'm trying to use the treeview to display the text of a rtf (rich text file) file when an specific node if clicked.HomeOMGWOOTFor example, if i pick OMG, i want the text of lol.rtf to be displayed on a richtextbox. But somehow i just can't manage to get it... I know to import the text of a .txt file to a textbox, but using the treeview makes it more complicated.This is the code im using right now:

I am trying to get a text file to be overwritten since it's already there. The thing is, that I'm not trying to overwrite a specific file. In fact, EVERYTHING must have the right name, or my project won't turn out right: http:[url]....However I don't have that problem any more because I solved it. Now my problem is much more simple. Again, I'm NOT trying to overwrite one specific file, so I couldn't say something like,

I need a way to overwrite any file name.
