I want to create a program in vb .net that let me know who is using a specific file? Because I often update an .exe file but if it's in use I can't overwrite it. So if I know who is using the .exe I can call him to tell him o close the app.

I have used VB6 years ago. Few days ago I just got started again with VB 2010. So I'm newbie again, Almost forgot everything. I want to create a program for parental control that block specific websites.
What I exactly want to do is The code should check the titles of the open windows and see if it is blocked one. If it is, it will close the browser with a message showing it's blocked. For example If I put "yahoo" to check and someone opens yahoo.com it should be terminated.What I have done so far is, I made DOS batch file that will terminate all the browsers that are open and set that ready to run when the title matches blocked site name/address.But I am stuck at how I can check the titles of the window that are open.

im having trouble opening adobe from my coding, also is my file ok or do i need to call from its folder location within the program.i need to be able to open a specific .pdf file from a whole range of file located in the program.what im getting the user to do is press 1 of about 14 buttons to select a brand. then in textbox1,enter the first part of the file name so in this case a274 (adobe runs in .pdf format so the file would be a274.pdf).at the moment i get a win32 error high lighting startinfo as the problem so im thinking its the adobe.exe is the problem. View 9 RepliesIs there anyway to save a thumbnail of an image, then save it so that, when viewed through My Computer, the thumbnail is displayed for the file. Basically, what I mean is to do something similar to the way you can see a preview of a pdf file, or Microsoft Word file, or Microsoft Expression Design file. I want to be able to open the file's containing folder, then switch to thumbnail view, and the thumbnail will be displayed as the image for the file.

You see , I am using a DataGridView control to show only SOME of the columns (fields) of a table from an Access file . I am trying to create a file association in my program, which requires me to create some keys in the registry. However, when I try to create the keys, I get a System.UnauthorizedAccessException.
I have tried searching for a solution, and the only thing I can find is various examples of passing a boolean value to request write access for the "OpenSubKey" method. My problem currently is not opening the key, it's creating it. I have tried several of the different overloads to no avail.
I am guessing that I will need to temporarily elevate the access of my app to create the registry key. What I don't want to do is permanently raise the access of my app just to accomodate this one, small function, which should only really be needed by the user one time in order to create the file association.

I have a checkbox on my form. When the user clicks it, it sets the file association if the checkbox is checked, or else it deletes the association if the checkbox is unchecked.

I make an application and make setup file using VS setup project. This work fine and create default text files into Program Files Folder for winodw 7/vista .but can not modify these files or create any new files.There are few text files need to create ,modify during application running ,but in windows 7/vista unable to create,modify files.I am using full default admin right for these OS. If iuse C: root path then application work fine or for win XP no problem.I think UAC restricting to perform these opeartion. View 5 RepliesI am trying to figure out how VB can focus a specific program and then send commands to the program only. The focus would only be for the commands and would not make the program you are currently in lose focus. Simply, what it is controlling is a Windows Application called GOM Player. I use it to study my material for school. I plays movies in it and don�t have to click out of the application I am working in to pause, play or rewind. The keypad and the company who make it actually have it built into iTunes and it does exactly what I want GOM Player to do.
The reason I dont just use iTunes is because I can�t get my video files to play in iTunes. After pulling teeth with the manufacture I finally to tell me that the iTunes functionality is accessible via plugins built into iTunes. So trying to mimic what is being done there does not help. I believe that a knowledgeable VB programmer could answer my question in seconds, but having some experience with coding and programing I know it also could be a lot more than what I think. [URL]
The question is: What is way that VB can send the key for the macro only to the GOM Player Application even if it is not focused or even If it is minimized.
