View 1 RepliesI'm looking for Version Control software that works with VS 2008 & allows multiple check-outs of a file, merging the changes as each version is checked back in. Obviously this would require manual resolution when two programmers changed the same procedure,but that rarely happens here-what usually happens is we have two (or more) programmers working on different parts of the program that happen to occur in the same file so only one of them can actually do their work at a time. Highly inefficient.
We're currently using Visual Source Safe, by the way. I 'inherited' this so I'm not *absolutely* certain it can't be configured for this, but if so none of the older programmers (in terms of time in this office) know about it. I think they used a home-grown program. Besides, I haven't been able to remember who I heard about it from so remembering that really isn't a help-at least not yet.
In a VS2010 solution I have a license.licx file that contains:

If I build the solution on a machine that HAS a license for ActiveReport then everything is fine. If I build the solution on a machine that DOESN'T have a license for ActiveReport I get:
Error 1 'Could not load file or assembly 'ActiveReports6,
Version=6.1.2814.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=cc4967777c49a3ff'
or one of its dependencies. Operation is not supported. (Exception

On the machine that DOESN'T have a license for ActiveReport if I remove the above lines from the license.licx file then everything builds fine. I always thought that if the license couldn't be found then the unlicensed version will be used but it wouldn't kill the build. How do I get this solution to build on any machine whether it has a license or doesn't?
How they relate and differ from each? What are the best practices for version control? Is there a primer about publish online? Or a good book?
And is it possible to make ClickOnce and a msi in one solution of VS 2008? If so, is there any conflict or pitfall?
BTW I am using VB if that makes any difference.
I have a need to activate remote desktop on machines out in the field and have created a VB button that takes a workstation name from a textbox and activates via a WMI call. problem is that it pops back with an "invalid parameter" error.

View 9 RepliesI think my title covers the high level, but for indepth; i need to be able to connect to a machine through and ip and set a enviroment variable, i have over 60 machines in different states all on one network that i need to do this for as well as someother things for the machine. currently this is being done through a PCEXEC command in a batch file they want more control on how this operates. I just really have no idea where to even start looking for the enviroment variable change(setting one on a machine that the app is running is simple we all know that. but on a external machine im lost) on a remote machine.
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to write a console application that can modify registry subkeys on remote pc's in the same network. I have it working in my own environment but when I install on the customer machines I'm getting unauthorized access when it hits the OpenRemoteBaseKey. The security settings in the application properties is set to full trust application so I'm not sure why it won't work.
I'm using Visual Studio 2010 and first I just installed it on the customer machine and when it wouldn't work I ran the source code in Visual Studio 2005 which is on the customer machine but got same results.I can run the app directly on the remote machine and it will change the registry subkeys as directed, I just can't do it remotely. RemoteRegistry service is started. Both machines are logged in as administrators.

Is there an easy way to export remote event logs FROM an XP machine?
I know there is System.Diagnostics.Eventing.Reader.EventLogSession from Vista onwards but I can't seem to find something for XP systems.
I made a program a month ago and i gave it to the customers.recently they report some bugs and i fixed them. when i send the new version installer to them, they have some problems running it.i used vs 2008 to write it, but i removed vs 2008 and installed vs 2010 last week. when i opened my project to start fixing program bugs it asked for convert wizard so i did it.i made changes and build it. i use installshield and i add framework 3.5 Sp1 as prerequisites.
note : i was using inno setup first time. so i changed the installer too.so i tried installing the program on my machine.i just noticed that i have only .net framework 4 installed my own system. so i have no idea how the program runs without any problems on my own system. i have even tried installing it on another machine who had framework 3.5. it it work on that too.the error shown on customers machines is related to framework version. everytime i send them a new version they have some problem installing/running it.
i'm trying to make a program that searches for a specific file in a specific file, so when the program loads it "writes" in checked list box the names of the drives installed to the computer, but what i want to do is: when the user checks the box, i want it to search for the file in that drive, but i don't know how to do it...

I am trying to download a file off my web server (easy) but the file its downloading is the updated version of the file running. I finally was able to program my automatic update software the program simply downloads a .txt file from my web server, reads it, and if the the version = (new version here) then download. If not, then go to another form. The problem I am getting though, is when the version is outdated, the file will go to download the new .exe and it gets and error saying "File already exists"

I am developing an Application in VB.Net 2.0. I have a module which would copy files from the Local Machine to a shared folder on remote machine. This shared folder on the remote machine is an authenticated folder. So, after searching on the Internet I found the following piece of code.[code]Another point to note is that when I connect to the File Share using Windows Explorer and then try to execute the application, it works properly.I am not sure why I am getting the error when I do not connect to the Shared Folder using Windows Explorer.Do I have to set some property so that the Credentials passed in the authentication are used.I also checked some posts that suggested setting up Mapped Drive to the Shared Folder on the Local machine and then to copy the file using IO.File.Copy function. However, I cannot use this as this Remote Folder should be only accessed through the application and not in any other case by the User. The users will not even have the credentials to this remote Server as it will be configured by the admin.So, Is there any way in which I can set this up and transfer the files from local machine to a remote shared folder?

I am building the 'TheBeerHouse' project in vb.net (the book is written in C#). Once I understand the concepts, I can usually convert it to vb. However, there are a few areas that give my some problems (which I will address individually). The first issue I have is the C# 'base' to VB 'MyBase'. [code] My understanding of this conversion is that I need to grab the attributes of the <articles> element under the <theBeerHouse> custom section in the web.config file.This code does not compile and the get the following error: 'MyBase' must be followed by '.' and an identifier.

I will have a directory of files (IFO, BUP, and VOB; DVD files for anyone who cares), I need to find the first one by sorting these like this: Filter out everything that does not have a .VOB in it, then find the one like this VTS_**_1.VOB. It will always have a "1" before the extension, but the two numbers before that change, lastly I need that file returned as a variable.
