Creating A Class That Searches A Binary File For A Specific Customer Number
Jan 4, 2012
I am creating a class that searches a binary file for a specific customer number. I am using a binary search that keeps on slicing the file in half until I find the customer number while is sorted. Once it finds it I am positioning it at the first instance of that Customer number as there can be multiple records with the same Cus Number.
Now here is my question. I now need to loop through this Customers records and do some data base searches. Since I want to make my class as generic as possible what should I pass back to the calling class? An Array with all their records. If I do this I have to loop twice, once in the class and once when it passes the array bac to the original calling class?
i'm trying to make a program that searches for a specific file in a specific file, so when the program loads it "writes" in checked list box the names of the drives installed to the computer, but what i want to do is: when the user checks the box, i want it to search for the file in that drive, but i don't know how to do it...
I'm using:
Imports System.IO Imports System.Collections.ObjectModel Public Class Form1
[Code].....
how to make it search in the other drives using the checked listbox?
I have a windows form which to summarize lets the user open a file containing 32 bit hashes, then search for one of them. The hash is then converted to its string representation. The application is giving the results I would expect but I'd like to make it execute faster than it does now; some files can be pretty big > 100 MB.
I'm doing the file read using a BackgroundWorker object to display progress updates and ensure that the UI is available during the process. But for that i need to add a System.Threading.Sleep(1) instruction in the loop; otherwise the application freezes with big files. And System.Threading.Sleep(1) creates a noticeable lag. Any suggestions on how to make searches fast without freezing the UI? Getting speeds comparable to hex editor programs for example.
I have search system that works like charm: 1> Searches specific folder for text files which contain specific word 2> Puts those text file names and/or paths to listbox However i want it to put (instead of InputStr) the specific line where word is found in text file to listbox.
I've done some research into this using the MSD website; I have found that my applicaiton saves the Customer Details to the Customer File, but only as (spaces). No data is present in the file.
I'm creating an application that saves Customer data to a file. Once the Data is saved into the file, how would i then get it from the file into a ListView?
I need to write a program that requests a high number and a low number from the user, then the program searches the array and finds all elements within the two numbers. The program is used to search for past presidents, so if I type 43 for low number and 44 for high number, the program will display:
George Walker Bush Barack Hussein Obama
I think I have an idea of how to search up to a certain point, but not to stop at a certain point....Here is the code that I have for that particular sub procedure:
Quote:
Private Sub btnDisplayRqst_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnDisplayRqst.Click Dim sr As IO.StreamReader = IO.File.OpenText("PRESIDENTS.TXT")
This is kind of a brain twister. First, what it involves. I'm writing an application that is working with values sent to and received from an 8 bit micro-controller. There are 8 bits of specified values. Here they are. bit1 = 1, bit2 = 2, bit3 = 4, bit4 = 8, bit5 = 16, bit6 = 32, bit7 = 64 and bit8 = 128.I made a routine that uses 8 checkboxes to add the values for sending them to the micro-controller. That wasn't too hard. In my appp there are 8 checkboxes. Each checkbox assigns one of the specific bit values to a variable (or subtracts it when unchecked). The total of the variable is then displayed in a textbox and ready to send. Now the hard part that ed to take any number between 0 and 255 apart in values that will be a combination of the numbers (1,2,4,8,16,32,64,128) above and show each checkbox which is assigned those numbers to be checked.
I'm amazed at this situation. In QBasic, you could just easily GET and PUT whatever you wanted at the exact position in the file that you wanted. Now in Visual Basic 2008 I'm just completely stumped.
I can't use FilePut or FilePutObject because of a twisted issue. It adds a couple of bytes to describe the length of the data being written: what's the point of BINARY read/write if it won't allow you to write EXACTLY what you want and nothing less or more? There's a way to turn off this issue, and that's by setting the parameter StringisFixedLength to TRUE, but that's where the twisted part comes in. You can't do that. As far as I can tell you have to redefine the function using SUB, for example:
[Code]...
My.Computer.FileSystem.WriteAllBytes. To my amazed surprise, this function doesn't even bother to include the possibility that I might want to put the data in a specific position within the file! I can't believe this. You can either specify to APPEND at the end or not, in the latter case apparently resulting in a write to the beginning of the file. No option at all to specify where in the file you want to put the data. I can't believe this.
How do you write to a SPECIFIC position in a binary file in VB 2008, and do it without the program deciding to add a few "informative" bytes to your data before it's written (totally undermining the whole point of binary files)?
I have some .doc binary files stored in my database and i would like to now search them all (without converting them to .doc) to see which one contains the word "hello" for instance.
Is there any way to do this search in the binary file?
I was wondering how I could make an application that searches a certain website for a specific string. Or, if I could, list the search results in a listbox. Reason for: I wan't to make an application that searches serial websites for certain serials. Like 'Craagle'.
I'm creating a search control where searches can be compounded. So, for instance, I could create a search for Orders where OrderID = 1232 or OrderID = 2343 and OrderID <> 23435
So I have a button that users can click to compound. Obviously its a complicated problem to do well, but in any case, on my path to trying to find the best way to do it, I wanted to create a variable that could be either '=' or '<>' depending on the value of some other variable set elsewhere. Is there a way to do that? Or do I have to switch to Expressions?
I have 10 lines of array that are first name space last name space zip code. All the zip codes start with different numbers. Is there a way to replace the #1 in the indexof below so that it searches for any number character instead?
'open file inFile = IO.File.OpenText("Names.txt") 'process the loop instruct until end of file intSubscript = 0
I am using BinaryReader class to read binary file. But I am facing problem while reading number of bytes from it.I have written code to read only 2 bytes from it,it works well on my machine and read only 2 bytes, but when I deployed that code on server machine it read 4 bytes from file.Whats wrong in the code?Is it due to processor i.e.. 32 bit processor/64 bit processor.
I am using BinaryWriter class to write a binary file to disk. When I invoke the Write method, passing an unsigned short value, it writes it in little-endian format. For example:
bw.Write(0xA000);
writes the value in the binary file as 0x00 0xA0. Is there a way to make BInaryWriter use Big Endian? If not, is it possible to create a new class, inheriting BinaryWriter and overload the Write function to make it write big endian?
I am trying to write a simple application that monitors the COM port and writes the incoming binary data to a file. So, I gathered a File class is provided, but looking at its methods list in the Help page, I see no method for writing individual bytes (and the Write methods seem to close the file after writing).
How can I write a byte array into a file, keep it open and repeat this as necessary?
I am making a booking app in vb.net and I am using sql server as my database. I am confused about table creation. I have increment of 1 in customerid which is primary key in customer table. Suppose if a customer books a room and according to the increment id"1" is assign to the 1st customer. Now after some days same customer again comes to the hotel and books for a room. Now this time a different id would be assign to the customer according the the increment may be id"125".
What to do if I want to search the customer for how many booking has he done so far. Because there would be different id's assigned to the same customer as every time he walks in to book a room different id would be assign to him. And suppose if I make surname as my primary key than may be other people will have the same surname. How to solve this search problem for a specific customer for all bookings he has done so far. And if i give a unique id to customer my self suppose "cust1" than every time customer walks in he has to remember his id.
im using a datagridview, and it is connected to ms access. every time i have an input same in the column where primary key is I already got an error. can you guys how to show a messagebox if the Customer Contact number is already in use? here is my code.
I'm trying to figure out how to create a custom power plan in code. I've searched high and low and have come up with very little so far.
The first thing I ran into was WMI. After looking up some information, it seems that all of the WMI Power features are ReadOnly.
Then I looked into the registry. This might be a feasible option, but it's hard to say. It seems each Power Plan has a unique GUID associated with it. This isn't a huge issue, since I can create one like so:
VB.NET Dim _GUID As Guid = Guid.NewGuid
With this method, the issue now lies in the subkeys. Each Power Plan looks like it also has a unique ID for each option in the power plan.
There are two issues with this. First, even though subkeys are the same for each powerplan on my PC, I'm not able to test others at this time. So I can't know for sure that they are the same. Secondly, I have no way of knowing which subkeys relate to which power options.
My only two other options would be an API or .NET methods.
That being said, does anyone know of any way to create a power plan or some info on it?
I am doing a program for travel reservation and need to know how to let the customer enter their passport number into a textbox. Its is 8 characters long and the first 7 characters are numbers and the 8th is a letter.
I want to copy files with a specific extension (for example .config or .exe). It should create a structure of nested directories, and then insert each file into a specified place in the directory hierarchy. Ideally I would just specify a parent directory for each file and a parent directory for each directory and it would build it.
I need any existing utility or batch file or power-shell script or C#/VB .Net code to perform this activity.
I have a class called Customer. It has some property like custID,custName..etc. Inside Customer class I have a function which returns an array of customer.
I wrote a function like this : Public Function InitLoadCustomerDetails() As Customer() sql = "SELECT* FROM tblCust" ds = classDC.queryHandler(sql, "InitCustomerDetails") Dim customerArray(classDC.maxrow - 1) As Customer Dim currentCustomer As New Customer [Code] .....
But it is not returning an array. Just a customer variable?? Public Function InitLoadCustomerDetails() As Customer() Return customerArray End Function Fix this to return an array of customer!!
I am having trouble setting up these classes.I need to set up a customer collection class that has one function GetCustomer(ByVal customerNumber As Integer) As Customer..The customer class reads a file and returns 5 fields and x number of records. My question is do I set up the 5 properties (fields) in the Customer class and if there are 10 records that match how do I return the customer object to the customer collection class. I don't care about exact syntax but could someone show me how these 2 classes should look?
I'm creating a search function to search through a binary file and find a record based on the users input. Surprisingly, that isn't the problem! The problem I'm having is that as part of this I'm using a procedure to display results in text boxes, and I'm getting the error "Too many arguments to private sub display customer"I've encountered this error before, but never really knew what it was... Here is my code.
Private Sub btnSearch_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnSearch.Click FilenameCust = "F:\College\CustomersFile.bin"
I have a function list of 75000 for my project. I want to load each class file dynamically and need to add one line on top of the function and to lines in the ending. Which is the best way to update a specific part of the file. I don't want to make a small mistake here since its my source code and globally using.
