Dynamic Sql Table Creation - Create Sql Tables Based On User Need
Apr 20, 2012
i need to create sql tables based on user needs lets say a guy needs a table of 4 rows 5 columns other user needs 3 rows 3 columns each with different types so how is the best way for letting them choose like they write in a text box ( this will be the value of rows)4 and another text bvox the count of columns and i have those 2( rows and columns needed) numbers i create the table as is.based on those. by default i create type as varchar max then later on we must fill the table using datagrid.

I have two tables Employees and CafeLogs. Some employees can be cashiers and also customers at the Cafe shop.
Table structures:
Employees: EmployeeId(PK) , FirstName, LastName
CafeLogs: LogId (PK), CashierId, EmployeeId, Value, => CashierId and EmployeeId are the data from column EmployeeId of Empoyee table
Table relationship:
Employees 1:N CafeLogs (CashierId (FK))
[code]....
Right now I know how to select only LogId, Employee's name, and , Value, not with Cashier name yet.
Dim query = From log In db.CafeLogs _
Join emp In db.Employees On emp.EmployeeId Equals log.EmployeeId _
Select log.LogId, emp.FirsName, emp.LastName, log.Value

I need some help in the creation of a program to generate a security code based on the current date. I need to create something that first multiplies the MMDDYY (ie X=MM * DD * YY) then also adds the MMDDYY then finds the remainder and then multiplies but a specified number. I would like to create a small program that sits in the system tray with this code displayed. The code will always need to be 6 characters, so I might need to pad it with zeros. It has been years since I took basic VB, and I am really rusty.

I am attempting to set up a datagridview that is dynamic based on user input. The user input is a start and end date. The start date defines the first column the next column is the next date... until the end date (x-axis). The y-axis is technicians and the fields will show the assignment for the technician on that date.
All the advise I am seeing on datagridviews is to create a property methods to provide the information for each column. for example:
Dim 12-Oct-2009 as string
Dim 13-Oct-2009 as string
[Code]...
How do I create a object data source that allows me to populate the data grid? I want the column headers to be included as a string in row 0 of the multidimensional array. The amount of columns will be dynamic with a minimum of 1 and maximum viewing of 100 days based on what dates are selected in the start date and end date fields. The input dates will be used to generate a query to a database that will populate the multidimensional array. One solution I see is pick a start date and have a set number of dates and code for set number of columns (100) in a row and then set the names of the columns dynamically...ahhhh code repetition!
I am not sure how else to do this but looking for a more suttle way.I am using this to create a simple scheduling tool to see resource schedules by date. There is an unmoveable end date so initially I will need to look ahead 100 days but as the end date gets closer, I will have fewer and fewer dates. So eventually the end date will be that start date.

My page has a drop down whose values are dynamically populated. Based on which item is selected, a number of TextBoxes are dynamically created during runtime. The user then fills in information into the textboxes and clicks a submit button. After postback from the submit button, I need to again dynamically create the TextBoxes during Page_Init (BEFORE LoadViewState) so that after the ViewState loads, my Button_Click event can save/do whatever with the user input. PROBLEM is, I cannot recreate the textboxes based on the selection in the dropdown, because the dropdown hasn't been "selected" yet by LoadViewState.SO, how can I read from the view state, create my textboxes, then let the viewstate populate the textboxes, and then the Button_Click will use the values??The one thing I've attempted is to override the LoadViewState function so that I can read from the view state, create the boxes, and then load the viewstate again. This did NOT work, because the debugger never seemed to hit my overridden function.[code]

I am creating a project in VB.NET in which one of the reports require that the name of employees should be displayed as column names and whatever work they have done for a stated period should appear in rows below that particular column. Now as it is clear, the columns will have to be added at runtime. Am using an ODBC Data source to populate the grid. Also since a loop will have to be done to find out the work done by employees individually, so the number of rows under one column might be less or more than the rows in the next column. Is there a way to create an empty data table and then update its contents based on columns and not add data based on addition of new rows.

I have one table here with a list of UserIDs, Users, and ClientCodes. Each user can be assigned a client code to view that client's data else where.Right now I have to change it for everyone via SQL Server and actually going into the table manually, but I'm trying to make a simple little program that will let the user change it themselves. All I need is a textbox that pulls the user based on a certain UserID from the table, and a drop down list that will not only show the current ClientCode they're set to, but allow me to change it and save that change to the table in the database. What's the best way to go about this? I tried using the wizards but I guess that's not the best way to go about it.I have it displaying the correct user and their current ClientCode but that's about it.

I need some input refactoring an asp.net (c#) application that is basically a framework for creating dynamic forms (any forms). From a high level point of view, there is a table that has the forms, and then there is a table that has all the form fields, where it is one to many between the two. There is a validation table, where each field can have multiple types of validation, and it is a one to many from the form fields table to the validation table.
So the issue is that this application has been sold as the be-all-end-all customizable solution to all the clients. So, the idea is whatever form they want, we can build it jsut using DB configurations. The thing is, that is not always possible, because there is complex relationship between the fields, and complex relationship between the forms themselves. Also, there is only once codebase, and this is for multiple clients - all of whom host it on their own. There is very specific logic for each of the clients, and they are ALL in the same codebase, with no real separation. Sometimes it was too difficult to make it generic, so there are instances where it has hard coded logic (as in if formID = XXX then do _). You can also have nested forms, as in, one set of fields on its own within each form.
So usually, when one client requests a change, we make the change and deploy it to that client - but then another client requests a different change, and we make the change and deploy it for THAT client, but the change from the earlier client breaks it, and its a headache trying to debug, because EVERYTHING is dynamic. There is no way we can rollback the earlier change, because then the other client would be screwed.
Its not done in a real 3-tier architecture - its a web site with references to a DB class, and a class library. There is business logic in the web site itself, in the class library, and the database stored procs (Validation is done in the stored procs).
I think this is a bad model in general, because one of the things I heard one of the developers say is that anytime any client makes a change, we should deploy to everybody - but that is not realistic, if we have say 20 clients - there will need to be regression testing on EVERYTHING, since we don't know the impact...There are about 100 forms in total, and their is some similarity in them (not much). But I think the idea that a dynamic engine can solve ALL form requests was not realistic as well. Clients come up with the most weird requests. For example, they have this engine doing a regular data entry form AND a search form.
There is a lot of preserving state between pages, and it is all done using session variables, which is ok, except that it is not really tracked, and so sessions from the same user keep getting overwritten, and I think sessions should be got rid of.Should I really just rewrite the whole thing? This app is about 3 years old, and there has been lots of testing and things done, and serious business logic implemented, so I hate to get rid of all that (joel's advice). But its really a mess of a sphagetti code, and everything takes forever to do, and things break all the time because of minor changes.
I've been reading Martin Fowlers "Refactoring" and Michael Feathers "working effectively with legacy code" - and they are good, but I feel they were written for an application that was 'slightly' better architected, where it is still a 3-tiered architecture, and there is 'some' resemblance of logic..

I'm trying to build a form which generates itself as it is used. I have created a really simplistic example, loosely related to what I'm trying to do below, but which demonstrates the problem. The user types a word in the text box, clicks the Button and a new TextBox is loaded into a Panel, with the value in the original TextBox that the user has entered. The user should then be able to type something else/the same and create another text box with that in it by clicking the button, basically permitting 0,1,..,n textboxes appearing above the "txtFeeder" TextBox on the form. The problem is that everytime you click the button, it doesn't add a new control, it seems to just update the one that has already been created with the new (incremental) ID. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong, or if what I'm trying to do can't be done (which I find hard to believe)? Here's the .aspx...
<form id="frmMain" runat="server">
<asp:Panel ID="pnlAdded" runat="server"></asp:Panel>
<asp:TextBox ID="txtFeeder" runat="server"></asp:TextBox>[code].....

I am trying to get the hang of Dynamic loading of objects from assemblies on the same machine (But NOT part of the same project). In the sample below, Form1 implements an interface built as part of the .dll I placed in C:Release. I am trying to create a local instance of Form1, and Cast it as Iform, so that the local code can access the properties and methods exposed by the interface. The assumption here is that at runtime, local code will have access to the String name of a form, and an interface which is implemented by the form (and is compiled into the .dll as well as the client application), and that is it.
When I run this code, I get a exception: "Unable to cast object of type 'WindowsApplication1.Form1' to type 'WindowsApplication1.Iform'.
Public Function fApplicationObject() As Iform
Dim sLocation As String = "C:ReleaseWindowsApplication1.dll"
Dim sType As String = "WindowsApplication1.Form1"
[code]....
I seem unable to dynamically load an object from a dll and then utilize an interface to access it's properties and such.

I am trying to make a program that will include a drag/drop view where you can arrange objects around in a view and add/delete objects as needed (objects are actually controls I create dynamically), I have made some code which I include below. If I run this code it works but not the part when I click on a newly created control, then mousemove function is not used, I should be able to move controls using the mouse functions..but these do not work. should work! Can anyone give me pointers on what I am missing?

I'm currently working on a program where I'm trying to dynamically create a picture box, a button, and a label for each item in a text file. Any ideas on how to do this? What I have: a plain text file with a list of numbers. Each number corresponds to a location. When that file is read, I want to create a picture box, a button, and a label related to each number. If I want to add something to the screen, all I Have to do is add a number to the file. So, lets say the file has. 1, 2
When the file loads, it will create a unique item on the display for each location. say pic1, button1, and label1 and pic2, button2, and label2. Right now, if I add something to the file, I have to go back into the editor and manually add everything. Which is a pain.

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Troubleshooting tips:
Use the "new" keyword to create an object instance.
Check to determine if the object is null before calling the method.I have tried several forms of using the "New" keyword and still get the error.

I am using VS2008 and SQLite. I have created a database and several tables and am attempting to populate the tables with data from arrays.
The following code (example) works fine but stops after it inserts 30 to 50 records. I am running the VB code in debug mode and when it stops, I press pause to see where it is. It stops on "SQLcommand.ExecuteNonQuery()" and when I press continue (F5) it will insert another 30 to 50 records.
I do not get an error message. Is this a timeout issue? How do I keep the loop running to the end of the array?
Following is example code.
Dim
SQLconnect As New SQLite.SQLiteConnection()
Dim SQLcommand As SQLiteCommand

My question is a combination of VB.Net creating html code..No Google links to pointless areticles in languages that are not VB.NET, please. If you cannot code it yourself, please don't reply because it's so annoying to ask a question then get pointless, timewasting links just so you can get your points score up.I have a table which has 3 columns - nothing special just simple but its's the row number I am having issues with. Will explain soon. There is a directory with jpg files in it and the number of jpg files increased yesterday by 67, today by 37. Because the picture files come with any filename I have created a Windows app that renames the new files taking the ending point of yesterdays number as the starting point for today..So, each row holds 3 jpg files therefore 67 jpg / 3 = rows (yesterday). First number today is 68. I type 68 into the app I created, enumberating & moving (renaming) the jpg ('hduyhdgu.jpg becomes 68.jpg, suhdos.jpg becomes 69.jpg and so on for each of the new jpgs in that directory. That is done by the simple FileInfo/DirectoryInfo classes. Whilst renaming the photos in numerical sequence it has to write the html in the following form: [code] My Questions are:
1) How to sort out the row numbers so they flow in groups of 3 correctly and not 70, 71, 72, 71, 72, 73, 74, 75..?
2) How to create the table in code that dynamically draws itself with 3 columns (200px each done by CSS) wide and enough rown to hold every jpg in that directory? So, if I moved 5000 jpgs in that directory tomorrow the code will loop through and create the html.
3) If creating the table dynamically as in Q2 above how would I fix the place to draw it? Placeholder? A div is easy (<div 'id="MyTable" runat="server"></div>. In code behind: MyTable.InnerText=.../MyTable.InnerHtml=...) but is it the best idea? [code]
