Dynamically Populating Div In Asp.net?
Aug 9, 2011
I am working on a weboage that will display questions and answers (maybe 5 at one time, maybe 7 at another time) returned from a database table. The questions will each be displayed in a div and the related answers displayed in another div. The question will have an icon "Show Answer / Hide Answer"
How can I go about creating a div and then populating it with values from a table?

I have a vb.net website with a gridview that currently has exam questions displaying vertically in each row like this:
Name question answer
-----------------------
Joe question1 answer1
Joe question2 answer2
[code]....
But I would like to change it, so that each question is a header, like this:
Name question1 question2 question3
----------------------------------
Joe answer1 answer2 answer3
Jill answer1 answer2 answer3
This makes it more readable since each user is only listed once.I would like to stick with a gridview instead of rewriting all my code.I am actually binding my data to the gridview via some other programmers class. I am using LINQ like this:
Return (From entry In report.FetchAllEntries()
Select questionID = entry.Question.QuestionID,
userID = entry.Session.User.ID,
[code]....

PROBLEM OVERVEIW: everything "runs", it never crashes, it populates the checkboxlist on the page, it even calls BindCheckBoxList during the databind but it never checks the boxes.
I have debugged and stepped through the stop points comments are below.

<asp:CheckBoxList ID="CheckBoxList1" runat="server" AutoPostBack="True" DataSourceID="AccessDataSource2"
DataTextField="Abbreviation" DataValueField="Abbreviation" OnDataBinding="BindCheckBoxList" OnSelectedIndexChanged="BindCheckBoxList">

I have a GRIDVIEW with columns, one of which contains a CSV of possible values for the dropdown that must appear on each row.
Private Sub GridViewParameters_RowDataBound(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.GridViewRowEventArgs) Handles GridViewParameters.RowDataBound
If e.Row.RowType = DataControlRowType.DataRow Then[code].....
Depending on whether the type of control is a dropdown, textbox, or check box (feined in the table) it hides or shows the relevant control type. If it is a dropdown it needs to get its values from a CSV in a corresponding column. I have a SP that returns a these in table form if passed the id of the relevant row.How do I get that is from the gridview to pass to the drop down and load it correctly?

I am trying to create a basic quoting tool but got stuck on how to clear and change the item collection from within a combobox for a datagrid.What we have is a list of 4 columns like a. Device b.TypeofService c.State d.Price Inside a sql database. Data is also structure like above as well.
I have a datagridview where the user will populate a,b,c and the price will be display and a total at the end. However a,b, and c aren't related in my current application. The combobox will show all possible dinstinct values for each column.
This works fine but I want to refine the application to only show the values of b. which are in the database after the user select the value for a. I have tried searching on how to do this as I assume to the Contry/State/City situation but could not find anything for a datagridview control in VB.NET.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? If I cannot do this dynamically from within a datagridview I was thinking of maybe creating three combo box outside and having it populating the datagridview afterwards but it wouldn't be as nice.

I have this code.
Code:
Public Class Form1
Dim NPB As Button
Dim x As Integer
[code]....
As you can see, when I open a program from my menu, a new button will be created with text similar to this, "C:Program ". The button it self will not do anything. How can I create the method at the same time the button it is for is created? Also how can I change the text do that it gives me, for example, CCleaner.exe instead of the whole target path?

I can usually find the answers to most of my questions via the Google Gods, but not this time.I have a form that has a TabPageControl and on that page a collection of labels and text boxes via a usercontrol.
On the form I have a button that allows the user to create a new tabpage, when the code adds a new page, it automatically adds the UserControl collection. I can't get my head around how to access the objects on the newly created tabpage.
What I need to be able todo is take the index of the tabpage that has focus and translate that against the UerContol name, but I havn't a clue how to do it!

I have a form which the datagridview will be built manually by reading in certain data from a text file (this is because the data in the text file will change periodically)The code is correctly adding the proper amount of rows but it is NOT putting the required values in the cells. Any thoughts?

The general problem is that I can't get the foreign key in one of my child tables to populate the primary key from the parent table. I have a parent table named "ISSUES" and a child table named "ISSDESC". The primary key for ISSUES is ISS_ID which is an autonumber. The foreign key is ISS_ID in the ISSDESC table which is just a number. I'm using MS Access and an OLEDBConnection as the method. I've created the relationship in MS Access and also created the datarelation in the VB.NET code.

I have a DataGridView which reads data from a custom (CSLA) list object. The dataset might have 100,000 records, and obviously I don't want to show them all at once because, for one, it would take ages to load.I think it would be nice if I could read the first (for instance) 20 records, and make it so upon scrolling to the end of the list, it reads the next 20 and adds them to the DataGridView.
I have experimented with various ways of doing this, mostly using a custom class inheriting from DataGridView to capture scroll events and raising an event which adds new records. I will include the code below:
Public Class TestDGV
Inherits DataGridView
Public Sub New()
[code]....
Though this (sort of) works, it can be buggy. The biggest problem was that if you used the mouse to scroll the DataGrid, it would get stuck in a loop as it process the scrollbar's ValueChanged event after the data was added. That's why I added ScrollbarOff and ScrollbarOn - I call them before and after getting new records, which disables the scrollbar temporarily.
The problem with that is that after the scrollbar is re-enabled, it doesn't keep track of the current mouse state, so if you hold down the 'Down' button with the mouse (or click on part of the scrollbar) it stops scrolling after it has added the new records, and you have to click it again.

I have a combo box on a form, it has a large number of values in it (about 40000). When the combo box populates it flickers from invisible to visible for about a second.After investigating this I am sure that it is not the call to the database that is causing this but when the combo is drawn.

I have created a script in powershell that has done this, but amo moving to a VB app and am having troubles.The snippet that I am adding shows what I did in powershell. I created variables using the XML and from a SQL database compared them, and updated the XML to reflect changes pulled from the database. I want to cycle through creating the variables as more may be added in time and want to make sure I don't have to keep adding code to pull out the data manually one node at a time.rudimentary code as I am new to both powershell and VB. Currently using VS2008.

I am using VB 2008
I created a simple form which has two tableadapters to a Access database. On the form I have a combobox that uses the Category TableAdapter and it populates on load fine. the other control is a DataGridView1 which is popluated by the Message Table Adapter based on which Category is selected. It does NOT populate on LOAD and thats my problem.
So the result I'm looking for is when you run the app and my first form loads it
A. Chooses the frist Category in the list (and it does that fine)
B. Populates the DataGridView1 based on the first Category (this is my problem)
The DataGridView1 does Populate after I re-select the Category in the combobox1.
Here is my code below.
Public Class FunnyMessages
Dim catid As Integer
Private Sub FunnyMessages_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load

Historically I used Tek-Tips for stuff like this but I can no longer access my account there and they do not respond to form based mail. Maybe they got tired of the questions too :-)
I am not a student. I manage a 'large' network. Every now and then I need to roll up something for a specific task. Most of the stuff I write only sees my desktop so neatness and originality are not an issue.My current 'project' is throttling back a few of my users disk storage. I am not allowed to implement Quota's (Server 2003 infrastructure) so I thought the next best thing would be a duplicate file report. I purchased Folder Sized 4 which is a beautiful product (I have used it since it's humble beginnings as Bullet Proof Folders). The end users claim that the filename and date checks are not enough to prove a duplicate. Enter my idea.
I have cobbled together a MD5 hash generator from a function found out on the web. Now I want to send the results to a datagridview instead of my current disk files.I has thought that I could access the rows & columns like dgv.row(x).column(x) = "strFile", dgv.row(x).column(y) = "strMD5"Nope, hunting through the available properties did not point me to any likely candidates.
Again, if this is not the place for questions of this nature please let me know. I am not a programmer, nor am I in training to be one. I just toss little things like this together when needed. Importing a CSV file into Excell is working, but it seems rather lame to be taking so many steps.

Can someone help me with this code? I just need to make it so there is no limitation on how much data is loaded in the columns or rows, it populates very nicely for smaller comma delimited files , but if I try to load something that goes for example over to AV column, it errors out.I don't care about VIEWING this data, I am just trying to get it into a LISTVIEW so I can access the data for other methods in my code.Index was outside the bounds of the array. I am trying to get my head around datasets, etc. The following code pulls data from an sql server and stores it in a data set. I then set the grid's datasoure to this data set. Now I want to populate a combo box on 'form load' with information from a field (surname) within the authors table.How do I approach this? I can do it in design mode but I want to do it in code as I feel you get a better understanding of what is happening under the hood.
