View 2 RepliesI have a VB project with a form where user adds/modifies the data, data are stored in SQL. On the form there are 2 tables that are linked by employee ID. When I test the process and insert a new employee record and add new comment for this new employee in DataGridView - when I save it I get an error that "Object reference is not set to an instance of an object". During more detailed debug it says that CurrentCell is set to Nothing - even that I do have values in all fields.I do set employee ID in the related table in the Grid to the value from the employee record - so all primary keys do have value and the comment is saved after all but I get an error and saved comment dissapears from the screen right after saving. When I pull the same new record again - everything is saved. What am I missing and how to avoid the error and dissapearing of the saved comment?
Also - I tried to save the new employee data in the first table first and then add comments - it didn't solve the problem. But if I add first part of information in the main table, save and close the form, then go back and add comment - it works fine. The problem is - it's not convenient for the user - they'd like to enter everything at once.

You need to design and create a program that accepts input of employee name, employee type, and the number of hours worked each week for two weeks.
You must be able to select an employee type. An employee of type Trainee makes $10 per hour. An employee of type Regular makes $15 per hour. An employee of type Manager makes $20 per hour.

The Problem that i am having right now is "Displaying " the overtime hours on my "FORM VIEW" i mean i did the math right its just when i type (lblOverHrs.Text = CDec(CDec(OvrHrsWrkWeek1.Text) + CDec(txtOvrHrsWrkWeek2.Text))
Its says the "OvrHrsWrkWeek1 and 2" are not Declared which are..im not really sure where i went wrong..

View 2 RepliesI have a dialog with an OK, Apply and Cancel button. I want the apply button to have the same effect as the OK button, but the dialog should not close. Can you stop the dialog from closing when you set a dialog result value (as I want to when clicking the Apply button)? Basically I have some settings that are passed into the constructor of the dialog. The dialog then updates its controls with these settings. At the moment any settings that are changed in the dialog are applied when the dialog closes via the OK dialog result (i.e. the code that calls the dialog also applies the changes). This is the way I would prefer it to happen, but the only way I can think of to get what I want to work is to apply the settings changes before I set the dialog result value (i.e. in the dialog code). This essentially makes dialogresult useless in my case as I cant use it to get the effect I am after.

I used to run through an ultragrid with a for each loop and that took forever, I stumbled accross this way and it's much faster but I noticed today I still have some straggling .txt files after the form closes at times. Is there a way to actually verify all the files have been deleted before closing the form?
I ran the same for each loop twice to work it out but not sure if that works or worsens it. Also, I'm not entirely sure what that application.doevents does as I initially thought it would finish all above lines before continuing but that does not seem the case. Anyway, these .txt files files are about 500KB and up to 1000 of them at any one time so it's not instant but it's still pretty fast, faster then looping through a grid.

I want to make a very simple program that remove duplicate domain name from a txt file. First, it must have a Open file Button so that it can load list of url to Listbox.
So, the URLs will be loaded into listbox. Then It has 2 more button Start and Save button Lastly one counter to calculate how many URL in that listbox
So example.. let say I have a txt file which contains URLs

I open this txt file and loaded it into listbox (can scroll)
Then when I press start button, it will delete the URL that has same domain name. so the output will look like this

Then I can save the URL from listbox to my disc drive as text file

View 5 RepliesI am currently having a headache on how to solve this problem that i am facing. here is the situation: I have a combobox and a list box on the main form. The combobox will get the data from the ms access database. In the database, i have the details of a person's IC, Name and DOB say for eg on one entry I have D215311523C,SHAWN,13/04/1987 So now, my combobox on form load will show the list of dates in the database to allow the user to search base on the date itself by clicking on the selected date. So when the user clicks on the particular date say 13/04/1987, people in the database whose birthday is 13/04/1987 will be shown on the listbox.Meaning to say if i have 3 entries whose dates are the same 13/04/1987, 3 entries will appear. If there is only two entry, then two results will be shown. But now, when i do a single click on the date, one result will be shown. That is correct. But the problem is when i click on the same date again, three of the same results will be shown on the list box. that is it will display : 13/04/1987 13/04/1987 13/04/1987 which is not the case. Then it will show more duplicates of the same results if i click more times on the same date which should not be the case.

I am using a datagrid in my where i am having four columns. In first column the parameter values are entered and in the second column measured value is entered and in third column the nominal value is entered.Inthe fourth column the result is displayed by subtracting the measured value and nominal values. I am doing this calculation in Datagrid cell validated event. What i want is,there will be many rows in the grid,when typing the value in the third column the corresponding result will be displayedin the rowof theresult column,save button will be displayed while the form loads,when the calculate part is completed that is there should not any cell of the resut column empty then i should enable the save butto.

I'm lending a copy of my .exe on a memory stick and because I dont completely trust them, , I would like to build in a function that as soon as my app has finished doing what its doing And the big red X is hit it will delete itself, but my problem is that i cant put the deletetion in the form closing because the prog is still running, so what should I do? Is there a way that I can get the app to close as soon as the dedicated task is complete, It will remove itself from the memory stick but if the X is hit before the process is complete the then the prog will remain.

And instead of deleting move it to another folder in the same computer. Basically when a user tries to delete a file or folder it should move it to a specified folder instead of deleting it.

It seems like it should be pretty simple, I take in a file name as a parameter, create a new name for it, delete it, then try to copy it back from an older version of the same file, and update the connection string. However, it continually tells me that "The file 'filenamehere' already exists." If I set overwrite to true then it goes through just fine, except it doesn't actually copy the file. Obviously I also check the folder, and the file does in fact Not exist...I've also checked all the file paths and what-not, they are all accurate.
How can I create a confirmation popup box into my Windows Form project? I use SQL Server Compact and Visual Studio 2008 Pro.At the moment I have some buttons and operations that delete selected rows straight from my database.
What I want to do, is have those buttons continue with the coded operation if the user clicks "OK" on the confirmation box.The box should be like the MsgBox, but with two selections: "OK" and "CANCEL".
P.S. I have several places to include that confirmation operation.
