View 1 RepliesI am initializing a GridView, text box and a button via code to a Webpart in CreateChildControls()The above controls are declared as class variables but initialized only later.Next, I've given the handler for button click. The handler function is supposed to work as a search - perform some operations on the content entered in the textbox, load the results in the Gridview, display the Gridview.When I type something in the text box and hit the button, the same controls load again and the content entered in the text box is lost. I've tried ViewState() and ViewState() but to no avail. The grid doesn't show because my logic skips attempting to bind it since a proper search string was not available.My questions:
1) Where/how can I get the values postback from the textbox?
2) Will it make sense to populate the GridView in PreRender() or will Event Handling happen after PreRender()? [code]
webpart vb.bet 2010 not visual webpart I want to grab the selectindexchanged, and run the code after button click. I only really need is the SelectedItem.Text
here's how I did it in VB.net asp page.
Protected Sub listbox_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Click_button
But SharePoint doesn't see this as valid handle.
i need help how to add odd numbers that are in my 6 textboxes collection and to see the result to label1 and how to add the textboxes that have numbers less than number 5.
View 4 Repliesrecommend a zone ocr sdk package. What i would like to accomplish is to automatically import a set of images, pdf or jpg, and then apply zone ocr to each image to extract data into a database. I have already looked at and spoken to Lead Tools and it does seem like they have everything that i would need but by the time you add up all the modules / addons needed, the cost is just too high for our small shop.
View 3 RepliesHow do I change the time zone using VB.NET 2.0? I found an article explaining how to do it in VB6 [URL] but I can't adapt it to .NET 2.0 - I just don't have enough expierience I guess.
View 4 Repliesused the WMI ChangeZoneType DNS command in C#VB.net before. I get an incorrect parameter exception when i try and invoke the changezonetype command. I get the dns zone that i want to change from the dns server (via query), set the zonetype to the appropriate uint value but am then getting the exception. I am trying to change the zone from secondary to primary and according to MSDN all the other values are optional (and as far as i am aware are needed when you want to change from primary to secondary) so i have not included them.
Below is the code that i am using....
For Each DNSZone As ManagementObject In mgrZones
mngrZones = DNSZone.GetMethodParameters("ChangeZoneType")
mngrZones("ZoneType") = System.Convert.ToUInt32(zoneType)

I'm trying to write code in .NET 2.0 to change the time zone - long story short its toautomate server deployment. I'm having a problem adding the SE_TIME_ZONE_NAME privilege I found code online to add the SE_SHUTDOWN_NAME privilege which I adapted into the following code:
Imports System.Runtime.InteropServices
Module ChangeTokenPrivs
Private Const ANYSIZE_ARRAY As Integer = 1

Basically I am looking for a means within a asp.net 2.0 (or higher) application, to identify a time zone and UTC offset for a specific location and date. I want to be able to look up the time zone rules using either city & state, Zip, or LAT & LON I have an event database that tracks location, date and time for the events. Times are recorder relative to the event and the records do not currenlty indicate the timezone for the event or whether or not DST is in effect. Recently, I have encountered a situation where I need to link several events across different time zones. What I am looking to do is:
first, record a master event, say for August 13 2012 at 8:PM in New York, NY 10021
Second I need to record a related event in Houston TX.
When I record the related event I want it to automatically populate the date and time relative to its local time time zone rules. To do this it needs to be able to identify the effective timezone and UTC offset for the master event as well as the linked event so that I can calculate the correct date and time to display on the satelite program. As a future update I would probably capture the time zone /utc offsets with each program so that I don't have to recalculate the master record each time I want to add a related event.
So far I have not seen a way from system.timezone or timezoneinfo to be able to look up a timezone and the effective UTC offset of a given date and location.
i am using Visual Studio 2008, .net 3.5sp1 When i do the following oracle query on Oracle9i database
a)select NEW_TIME( sysdate, 'EDT','EST') as NT from dual;it works ok on Sql Developer and from vb.net
b) select NEW_TIME( sysdate, EXTRACT(TIMEZONE_ABBR FROM CURRENT_TIMESTAMP),'EST') as NT from dual;
c) select NEW_TIME( sysdate, to_char(EXTRACT(TIMEZONE_ABBR FROM CURRENT_TIMESTAMP)),'EST') as NT from dual;
Both b) and c) work okay on Oracle Sql Developer but fail when run via vb.net with error: ORA-01857: not a valid time zone
I want either b) or c) to be run successfully from .net I also tried replacing 'sysdate' with 'current_timestamp' and the results are similar.
I'm currently working on a Visual Basic program that should be able to show CPU temperatures.To do this the cleanest way (in my opinion), I would like to use the Windows Management Interface (WMI) using
MSAcpi_ThermalZoneTemperature.Now, to my understanding, this requires that motherboard (MOBO) manufacture exposes these values to the WMI, which almost nobody actually do, but if they do, a "device" should show
up in the device manager called ACPI Thermal Zone under System Devices (let me know if I'm wrong).
As I would like to test my program and my current MOBO (Gigabyte GA-H67A-USB3-B3) doesn't seems to expose CPU temperatures to WMI (no

I have this in my form closing event:
For Each FileFound As String In Directory.GetFiles(App_Path() & "tmp", "*.txt")
File.Delete(FileFound)
Application.DoEvents()
Next

I used to run through an ultragrid with a for each loop and that took forever, I stumbled accross this way and it's much faster but I noticed today I still have some straggling .txt files after the form closes at times. Is there a way to actually verify all the files have been deleted before closing the form?
I ran the same for each loop twice to work it out but not sure if that works or worsens it. Also, I'm not entirely sure what that application.doevents does as I initially thought it would finish all above lines before continuing but that does not seem the case. Anyway, these .txt files files are about 500KB and up to 1000 of them at any one time so it's not instant but it's still pretty fast, faster then looping through a grid.

I have VB 3.0, VS 6.0, VS.NET 2003, VS.NET 2005, VS.NET 2008 and VS.NET 2010 Express. I have developed web sites and standalone programs using VB and ASP.NET. My experience and knowledge is not extensive, but i do have enough knowledge to create a VB program.
I want to make a very simple program that remove duplicate domain name from a txt file. First, it must have a Open file Button so that it can load list of url to Listbox.
So, the URLs will be loaded into listbox. Then It has 2 more button Start and Save button Lastly one counter to calculate how many URL in that listbox
So example.. let say I have a txt file which contains URLs
[URL]
I open this txt file and loaded it into listbox (can scroll)
Then when I press start button, it will delete the URL that has same domain name. so the output will look like this
[URL]
Then I can save the URL from listbox to my disc drive as text file
Am using grids in VB.net to display database records stored in Microsoft Access, the tables allow editing and deleting using the grid fields. Is there a way I can monitor whenever a user deletes or edits a record? I want to be able to view details of every update or deletion to certain records, such as the date and users who did it.

View 5 RepliesUsing any version of .NET how do you find out which zone a particular share is classified under. I am having a problem identifying if a share where my referenced dlls reside is in the "intranet zone" or "internet" zone relative to some user machine that is running my .NET application. I suspect this is a problem because I am having a problem accessing referenced dlls from a share on some machines but not others. How can I tell which zone .NET is classifying that share in so I can adjust permissions accordingly?
View 1 RepliesI am developing an application for an emergency services organisation using VB 2008 that will enable users to select a map zone of a city centre and plot icons onto it, then save/export the layered map with icons as an image.My problem at the moment is that I am struggling developing the point where the user imports in the icon (for example, a flame icon where a fire started) and drags it around the map within the picture box to the required area.I want them to be able to select their desired icon from a series of commandbuttons and for the icon to 'appear' on the picturebox and be enabled to be dragged around and dropped as required. The organisation already has such a thing working in Microsoft Word (!) and that uses the ActiveDocument.Shape.LoadImage function on a pushbutton to import the icon and then it is placed on the map as required, but this is really unreliable for them.I dont even know if you can layer images onto an existin picturebox within an application in this way and then export as a flat image.
View 3 RepliesI am using this code for row deleting in gridview. It should be like this "while it deleted a row, take row number 5 with serial no 5, serial field of row number 6 should become 5. means decrementing the serial number after one row deleted." but it is not happening while I delete row no 5 with serial 5, the row number 6 remains the same.

I'm lending a copy of my .exe on a memory stick and because I dont completely trust them, , I would like to build in a function that as soon as my app has finished doing what its doing And the big red X is hit it will delete itself, but my problem is that i cant put the deletetion in the form closing because the prog is still running, so what should I do? Is there a way that I can get the app to close as soon as the dedicated task is complete, It will remove itself from the memory stick but if the X is hit before the process is complete the then the prog will remain.

Is there a way to detect if a file is being deleted,
1) Using the Del key
2) Using the Shift+Del keys
3) Using the above keys from a remote computer through a shared folder
And instead of deleting move it to another folder in the same computer. Basically when a user tries to delete a file or folder it should move it to a specified folder instead of deleting it.
I want to make a fairly simple program that would prevent file deletion of certain folders andor files that i would input into the program. Say if someone tried to delete the file it would display an error message.

It seems like it should be pretty simple, I take in a file name as a parameter, create a new name for it, delete it, then try to copy it back from an older version of the same file, and update the connection string. However, it continually tells me that "The file 'filenamehere' already exists." If I set overwrite to true then it goes through just fine, except it doesn't actually copy the file. Obviously I also check the folder, and the file does in fact Not exist...I've also checked all the file paths and what-not, they are all accurate.
