Empty Points Not Displaying Correctly?
Jul 27, 2011
I am not able to get an empty point to break the line and be skipped in MSchart. I am using a spline chart for the data and when it reaches an empty point I want to line to break. I have tried setting the marker-style and border-width to nothing and 0 and also tried setting them in code but no success.

i'm using vb 2005.I have a datagridview binding to a datatable, and user can add new rows to it. i want to enable copy and paste, so i broke the clipboard content into string array, and tried to fill the values in the datagridview.
I had problems when i had to add new row to the datagridview. because if the user clicks the last row (*) to paste the content, i need to add new row to the datatable, however, the current row is also a new datagridview row. If i just use the following code
'dgv is the datagridview
'dt is the binding table
dt=dgv.datasource
iRow = dgv.CurrentCell.RowIndex

Based off this VB code I'm getting everything to create correctly within my SQL database but instead of the Food_ID displaying in the txtfoodid it's popping up in a message box (I think it's because of the Try/Catch).

I've tried multiple ways of getting it to display but nothing's worked so far.

-Castlevania (info).txt-
[Name]Castlevania
[GoodName]Castlevania
[Code].....
Description] "Every hundred years, the dark vampire known as Dracula resurrects and terrorizes the land. A vampire hunter named Simon Belmont bravely ventures into the Count's mansion in order to defeat him. Along the way he'll have to defeat skeletons, bats, fishmen, medusa heads and other evil creatures.Castlevania is a side-scrolling platform action game. The player taking the role of Simon Belmont is able to jump and crack his whip directly in front of him. Power-ups can be obtained by defeating enemies or by whipping candles that appear in the castle. One such power-up increases the power and length of Simon's whip. Different weapons can be gathered which consume hearts when used, these hearts can also be collected from monsters and candles. Additionally, some walls will hide secrets such as the health-restorative turkey or the Double and Triple shot abilities for the weapons Simon has collected. At the end of each section of the castle is a boss, which must be defeated. Progression through the castle eventually leads to a confrontation with Count Dracula himself."

The Combo-box only has three items (Top View, From South looking North, From West looking East). Bound data from an Access Query called qryViewsFilteredByJob. I'm using it to pass a parameter to the filter for a binding source on a second query called qryAllSections2 (I don't think that's important though.)
When the form loads up it displays correctly stating on 'Top View', and I can click another other item just fine. When I pick another item, however, the first item, 'Top View', disappears and it replaced by whatever item I just clicked. So if I clicked 'From South looking North', the three item choices are now 'From South looking North', 'From West looking East', and 'From South looking North' again...

I have a Class MessageIndex which holds an integer. I have a custom DataGridViewComboBoxCell which has a MessageIndex variable. If the MessageIndex is not set, the cell acts as a normal DataGridViewComboBoxCell; if the MessageIndex is set, then the GetValue and SetValue methods of the DataGridViewComboBoxCell are overridden so as to return the value of the object from its DataSource at the index of the integer stored in the MessageIndex.
As far as I can tell from stepping through the code, that actually works fine. The object returned by the GetValue function is fetched from the DataSource, based on the integer stored in the MessageIndex.
The problem is that when the DataGridView is displayed, all of the cells are blank. The values of the cells can then be set using the ComboBox dropdown, which appears to work fine.
But why are the initial selections not being displayed? As I say, as far as I can tell, the correct information is being retrieved by the GetValue function of the DataGridViewComboBoxCells when the form is initially displayed. It's just not ending up on the screen.

i need to display some text boxes, and have the ability for the user to "add another row"
i tried a datalist and a repeater, but it does not show anything at all, when the controls are blank.
<asp:DataList id="dlIso" runat="server" RepeatColumns="2" RepeatDirection="vertical" >
<ItemTemplate>
[Code]....
so in this case "test" does now show at all..
what is the best way to get this accomplished?

I have a database with lots of fields, some of which are still empty and are to be filled in at a later stage. Is there any way of writing an IF statement (or any other method) that will allow these empty records to be 'shown' in my textboxes in Visual Studio, without receiving the error:
Conversion from type 'DBNull' to type 'String' is not valid.

(make it small) then type in "ipconfig" (as an example), the text that shows up, makes the scroll bar, follow it down.

I would like to know how to have any empty field display a default image.
Code I have in report
Private Sub Detail_Format(Cancel As Integer, FormatCount As Integer)
Me.Image21.Properties("Picture") = Me.PhotoLink
End Sub
Photolink is a textfield and Image21 is an Image.

I have a DataGridView that has some columns with dates. It binds to an in-memory Datatable which gets loaded from an string array of data passed back from the backend Some of the rows returned have nulls for the date columns. Solution 1: If I define the Date column in the DataTable as "string" I can easily convert those nulls to empty strings and display it in the grid as empty strings (desired results). However, if the user clicks on the date column header to sort by date, it doesn't order the rows as you want. You get a purely string sort order. Not acceptable

This must've have been asked before but I couldn't locate it. In a mixed code project (VB and C#) we were debugging some old Visual Basic code where a statement as follows could be found:
If Request.Params("xxx") <> "" Then
'do something
I considered this a bug as Request.Params could be null, in which case the statement would've become false which wasn't the idea. So I thought. I just found out, -- probably for the tenth time and I will keep forgetting -- that the following two statements are not equal, while Nothing in VB should be equal to null in C# (thought I):
if(String.Empty == null) // always false
If String.Empty = Nothing Then ' always true
Should I dismiss this as a typical Microsoft backward compatibility effort, or should I consider this a huge error in the VB.NET compiler? Does anybody know the Microsoftean opinion on this oddity?

I want to find out the X and Y position of a point which is halfway between a point and another point, in VB.net. Since there is no "direction" property (which would make this much easier...), I have no idea how to do this.
C# code is acceptable as well, though I would prefer vb as it wouldn't require a port.

Is there a way of converting pixels to points? The dimensions in VB are in pixels, but Office COM such as WordApp.Resize are expressed in points. So trying to align app windows is a mess.I guess the ratio of pixels to points varies from one monitor to another(?), so this would need to be calculated at run time.I tried a nifty trick of doing Me.Font.SizeInPoints / Me.FontHeight but that doesnt seem to be quite right or a very sensible way of doing it.
