Parsing Data In Silverlight - Ensure The Data Is Secure?

Sep 7, 2010

I have a design question about parsing data in Silverlight. I need to allow my users to validate their csv data (they paste ten rows into a textblock), but I am not sure if I should attempt to do it on the client side where I don't have access to the textfileparser class or send the data to a webservice for validation. If I send it to a webservice how do I ensure the data is secure?

Ensure Data Is Entered?

Jul 11, 2010

How can I ensure that a user enters data in one text box before being allowed to move on to the next text box Example I have four text boxes the user can enter a grade in. I want to lock the other three box until the user has entered a number in text box 1. Once a valid number has been entered in text box 1, that releases or enables text box 2. Once a valid number has been entered in text box 2, that releases or enables text box 3. And once a valid number is entered in text box 3, that releases or enables text box 4.

Ensure That Only Data Entered Gets Inserted Into The Db?

Oct 6, 2011

Please take a look at the code below. I was told by the individual that developed itoriginally that the code only adds the rows of data the user entered. In other words,there 5 rows of textboxes. user can enter data into one row or into all 5 rows. If the user enters data into one row of textbox, that's what gets inserted into the db.I made some minor change to the code so that users can tell when a payment is made by check or cash payment.Since I made that change, whether a user enters data into one row or all 5 rows, all 5 rows get inserted into the db.How can I modify this code to ensure only rows entered get inserted?

For x = 1 To 5 Step 1
dedval = obr.FindControl("ded" & CStr(x))
chckvalflag = obr.FindControl("chck" & CStr(x))

VB Accidentally Partially Disabled?

Aug 23, 2009

I decided to get rid of some of the junk in my computer, so I selected all the .tmp files and deleted (nearly) all of them. I then emptied the recycle bin... Then I set to work on trying to get some code to work (in an excel 2007 macro enabled workbook).

I now have two problems: 1) excel will not let me record a macro and 2) when I run one sub routine, excel tries to run every sub routine associated with the workbook.

other than removing and re-loading Office 2007? I'll try logging off and then logging on again - if that works, I'll let you know.

IDE :: Accidentally Deleted A Tab In The Design Mode?

Dec 28, 2010

I accidentally deleted a tab in the design mode. I still have an old form in which the tab is present. But it is an old copy from the present project, hence is it not in the same project. What can I do best to get it back? By the way, Visual studio could better say some warning before they do that. And contr-z did not get all the content back. May-be I should have hit that button a few times more before I pressed save. I dont know.

Looking On Input For Areas To Improve?

Jul 21, 2011

I'm currently in a programing class for vb.net. It's my first true exposure to OOP and I'm looking for some advice on areas where I could improve. I was wondering if someone would be willing to look at one of my programs that I have written and offer advice on areas where I can improve and things that I made much more complicated than they need to be. I'm not looking for a line by line critique just a general look at things to improve upon in the future.

Error: Option Strict On Disallows Operands Of Type Object For Operator '='. Use The 'Is' Operator To Test For Object Identity

Jan 27, 2010

I am tightening up my coding with the Option Strict set to ON. It has now produced alot of errors. An example of this is:

If AllocatedDGV.Rows(i).Cells("RoomNumber").Value = RoomsAvailableDGV.Rows(j).Cells("RoomName").Value Then

It gives me the following error: Option Strict On disallows operands of type Object for operator '='. Use the 'Is' operator to test for object identity.

Option Strict On Disallows Operands Of Type Object For Operator Use The 'Is' Operator To Test For Object Identity

Apr 6, 2012

I need to write an interface to get data to/from our data files.

We have a low level class that holds field values for each record read from the files.

This just holds two values, the value read from the file (DBValue) and the updated value that may need to be written back to the file (CurrentValue).

These values may be any of the standard value types (integer, date etc) or a string.

Either value (DBValue or CurrentValue) may be null if not defined.

I have written the class to manage this data which works fine while option strict is NOT on.

But we have an office policy of having option strict on all the time.

When I put option strict on, my object value comparisons fail with the error: "Option Strict On disallows operands of type Object for operator '='. Use the 'Is' operator to test for object identity."

Question, how should I change the following code to handle option strict on ...

This is all running on Visual Studio 2010

Placing The Same ASP.NET Control In Different Areas Of A Page?

Feb 4, 2010

I have some code that I've inherited, and it's not the greatest in the world, but it works, with one small exception:

This page is a directory search, it has controls identified by record ID, however there exists a situation where there can be more than one result with the same record ID, thus making .NET barf. I had originally implemented a check that just didn't put the control on the page, if it was already there, but we've been getting negative feedback.

My question is this: Is there a way to put the same control in two places at once, for instance having if a user checks one, the corresponding one checks as well? I'm not terribly well versed in how .NET behaves, but I'll try to provide as much additional context as possible, if needed.

EDIT: Here's the updated code that generates the controls by looping over a datatable of results

Dim cbxSendInfo As CheckBox
Dim strCheckboxID As String = "cbxSendInfo-" & drOrganizer("ID") & "-" & i
Debug.text = Debug.text & "    Loading Checkbox (" &

[Code]....

Where drOrganizer("ID") is the record ID, and i is the result record number.

I know this is a terrible way to do this, at least from my background, but like I said, this is inherited code that's been hacked to pieces.

C# - Return Another PartialView That Occupy Different Areas Of My Page?

Jan 14, 2010

i have an Ajax ActionLink which normally just returns a PartialView (which is just a UserControl ascx file) however, my needs have changed and i want to return another PartialView (so a total of two PartialViews) that occupy different areas of my page... of course i can't call " return PartialView("UserControl.ascx") " twice in a row consecutivelly... so my question is what would be an elegant work around for this?

how can i return two PartialViews WITHOUT wrapping these two PartialViews up in a larger parent view? i hesitate to do this because both items are in a different part of the html table which would require me to include practically the entire page in the parent view due to the structure of the table, and in this case lots of html data unnecessarily would be sent to the browser at each request - defeating the purpose of an ajax call/partial update (correct me if i'm wrong).

Stripping HTML Function Within Text Areas Content

Mar 10, 2010

I'm writing a small program that loads a folders contained file names into a list box, you then double click one of the file names listed and it appears within the programs text area where the user may freely edit it. I then have given the users options to export the data contained within the text box to a word template. What I'd like to do is add a button which the user can click in order to strip away all the html within the text areas content. I found a solution but for some reason I can't make it work. There are no errors displaying nor does the program crash out, it simply isn't doing what it should be doing.

The function I'm using is below:
Function stripHTML(ByVal strHTML)
'Strips the HTML tags from strHTML using split and join
'Ensure that strHTML contains something
If len(strHTML) = 0 Then
stripHTML = strHTML
[Code] .....

I've used the below snippet in an attempt to put the function to work in the text box.
Private Sub btnHTMLstrip_click()
' calls function stripHTML, applies to text box
richTxtBox.Text = stripHTML(richTxtBox.Text)
End Sub
So, its not working as it should?
