Entering a date with an Input Box and validating it to ensure it has been entered in form dd/mm/yy. I have a VB Macro in Excel and I want the user to enter a date in an Input Box in the format dd/mm/yy. The entry needs to be validated to ensure it is valid and if possible in dd/mm/yy format which if not would request another date is entered.

Usual stuff i.e. some fields need to be always numbers>0, others need to be non-empty in order to avoid Null access on some objects and others just need to be some fixed strings.

In my .NET porject, I have to run a lot of validation on 4/5 fields. This validation checks if certain fields have errors, for example: the name field is not allowed to have numbers or symbols. If all these checks are passed, I need to execute a SQL query to pull some data out of the database. I could have it with a lot of nested IFs, and run the function at the end once it passes them all, but this will translate into about 12 nested IFs, and it seems a really bulky way to do it. I have also thought about setting a boolean value after every check, and if the value is 1 then don't run the function, else do. But of course this gets overwritten by other checks that pass.

I want the user to enter the date without entering the / symbol and enter it as dd/mm/yy then format it to dd/mm/yyyy. I also want it to be highlighted when they give the control focus.

View 9 RepliesI am building an application that needs to store different time of day values in dateTime fields of an Access database.I am trying to enter the time value's via a DataGridView using TextBoxColomn s.The coloms are formatted with the defaultCellStyle property to show only the time part of the datetime.After i save the entered data and look in the database itself, i see not only the time, but also the (current) date in the datetimefields. This raises a problem when i want to compare the timevalues later on in the functionality of the program i am building.(Of course it is simple to seperate the date and time part in coding of the program, but it would be more elegant (i think) if i could just save only the time part in the database (and have the date part of de datetimes left to 0))I have tryed via the CellFormatting and the CellParsing events, but no luck.I am new to visual basic and probebly missing out on something.

This idea of mine is basically more of an experiment ive wanted to play around with so here are some features im after.Firstly some of the conditions i would like to have are to give me total amount of combinations possible for a 1-45 number game. I would like to have some input in this app in regards to possibly entering previous lotto winning combinations and the app to remember what i've previously entered and to eliminate them from total overall combinations left as well update odds at the same time.another condition i would like would be to be able to retrieve a list of all combinations of a required sum i.e a required sum being all 6 numbers added up together, also to be able to remember odds and combinations left To be able to eliminate all even or all odd combinations or even say 5 even or 5 odd combinations basically a filter with these sorts of conditions and of course to update odds and combinations left meanwhile retaining all other possible, or id like to possibly be able to apply filter after filter where i feel the need too i also have a few more conditions id like to have though see what happens if some people can help me out or not guess i might discuss the other conditions id like.

Note: I'm aware that most of the time I'm simply re-typing the original code - it was a learning experiencing and I also realised that the different American and Australian date formatting was less of a programming issue due to the systems being set up differently in the first place.My issue is having run tests using only 4 digit entry, all types of digit entry, with and without DateValue on the final DateStr, changing the cell format to text, to general, to date - always results in a code like "8811" (i.e. 08/08/2011) being changed into 01/01/1924 (approximately).
At first I assumed the use of "DateValue" in assigning the final .Formula value was forcing this conversion. However, with or without DateValue it still seems to read the figure as a DateValue and convert it as such.I'm sure it has to be something elemental that I'm missing given the scores of people I alone have seen on boards reading C Pearson's code and not coming up with another peep.

I am writing a calculator app in VB Express 2008. I'm trying to get the app to accept numeric and operator input while ignoring all the alpha input. In other words taking input from the numeric keypad and the top of the keyboard and ignoring all the letters.
