I am trying to get this program to send an email, but still no luck. I am getting the following error that I do not understand. I do not understand what I am doing wrong. Also, I may have an issue that the computer I am writing this code on and trying to send the message does not have ISS and is just windows XP home.
The error is below
System.Net.Mail.SmtpException was unhandled
Message="The SMTP server requires a secure connection or the client was not authenticated. The server response was: 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first. k41sm2133530rvb.6"

I'm using the TcpClient and TcpListener classes to read/write to the network when a request comes in on port 25. All I'm trying to do at the moment is make it so that my server program can receive SMTP messages from other SMTP servers. I've tested in Telnet - if I connect to my own IP on port 25 and type EHLO, MAIL FROM, RCPT TO, DATA etc then all works as it should and the details I entered are logged by the program (it doesnt do anything about delivering these details/email yet).all looks good... but then when I try and just send an email to my domain from my work account I can see that a connection is made to my program and the string "EHLO workdomain.com " is received by my program - my program responds to the remote SMTP server with "250-mydomain.com Hello" and then a CrLF and then "250-OK". After that point however, my app does not receive anything further at all from the server at work. I'm guessing I am doing something wrong with the data I'm returning when it sends EHLO but can anyone point me in the correct direction?
I was using telnet to test with, it seems that I have made it work only with telnet.In telnet each time I type a key the data is passed to the server, however with a real SMTP server it just sends each entire command in one go. So after altering my server a little I can now get it to respond with the 250-OK which I thought it already was doing.. but it still doesnt work. The remote server just sends EHLO and then thats it nothing more.Something interesting, at the moment I am ending all of my responses to the remote server with VbLf - if I change this to VbCrLf (which is what I believe it is meant to be according to the SMTP standard) then I get an infinite amount of empty strings sent to my program (or perhaps some other character that just shows as an empty string in intellisense when stepping through the code). Changing it back to just vbLf or ControlChars.Lf makes it go back to just sending EHLO and then nothing else..

This will happen at random, and I can always just catch the error and re-establish connection to the server, but I am confused as to why. When doing lots of inserting into the sql server, I only establish one connection that is public, instead of many little connections. I had my doubts on a public sql connection, but it's been running great, and I've seen no problems until this morning. Again, this random moment I hit an error that stated, sql connection state is broken. Is it bad practice to just accept this error, and when it happens, re-establish the connection?

I am developing an .net Winforms application and I need to secure the connection to the sql server 2008 database. I plan to create a webservice as a middle tier that will handle the authentication and that will provide data manipulation. Is there a better way to go with? Does .net have components or tools for that? What is the best technique?

This is my connection string
"Data Source=192.168.1.2,1433;Network Library=DBMSSOCN;Initial Catalog=RFX2220;User ID=sa;Password=PhhassssWord!;"
this is the error message
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.)

(2) server configured for windows + sql server authentication
(3) & also enabled for TCP/IP

I am trying to do something fairly simple.. allow my user to import thier data from Excel into SQL Server, where it can be used by the application.To do this, I'm using the fairly simple code that is common everywhere I look:
strFilePath = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" + fdlgFileOpen.FileName + ";Extended Properties=Excel 8.0"
connExcel = New OleDbConnection(strFilePath)
connExcel.Open()
[Code]...
Now, on my development computer this code works perfectly. The data imports, and I can go on my merry way.
On the TEST computer, this code throws the error: "ODBC -- Connection to {SQL Server} servernamesqlservername failed." This seems very odd to me, because I'm using exactly the same SQL Server and database to interact with the application, and all the other screens in the application work perfectly. The test computer CAN connect to this SQL Server, but it keeps throwing this error whenever I try import data from Excel.I've tried everything I can think of - using the server's IP address instead of the server name, sending the SQL Server administrator data along with the request, taking out the Trusted_Connection=Yes... nothing works. What is going on here? How can this code work fine on my computer, and hiccup on another?

i'm tying to send email in my application directly by the smtp server but the server doesn't allow me to do that.The application its used by everyone in the company, so i set the smtp client UseDefaultCredentials to True, but the server replies with this when i try to send an email:[code].....If i set the credentials by hand, the server sends the email. So my problem is how to make this work to everyone? I don't want to have one public/friend var all time in the application with the credentials of the current user?

The code have been built to a guy who known as Nick J. Fessel. I am not too sure if it very secure to use it so. Do anyone know that if the connection strings is secure or not?

Below error is thrown in a already opened program which connects to different database
A transport-level error has occurred when sending the request to the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.)
Program details: code done using vb.net with SQL Server 2008 as back-end
Two instance of same exe where running simultaneously in same PC but error was thrown only by one instance
Program uses both SqlConnection (ADO.NET) and ADODB connection (upgraded from VB6) and the error is thrown by both types of connection If the error is due to network problem with the server then why few programs work fine? I am not able to trace the reason for this behavior of the program
Can I know why this error occurs and why only in few programs of same instance

Below is my connection string
con.ConnectionString = "Data Source=webserver1SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename='C:POSM_DB.mdf';Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True;"
It works all right on the development machine but not on network, i think it has something to do with the network.

I created a vb form application that I want to query a SQL Server database that is hosted through godaddy. Below I have my function that calls the db and also my connection string in my app.config file. When it tries to open the connection I get the following: {"A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)"}. Do I have to set something on the godaddy end to allow a connection? Or can I only access the database from a web page on my site? [Code]

I want to access the methods of a dll that is not managed. Seems to be vb6 from my best guess and what I know about the program.That part I have managed to figure out. If I drag the x.dll to my bin folder, the interpreter wrapper is created, etc. I can access the methods in the dll just fine. The problem is the database connection.
For informational purposes: The dll is compiled for a vbscript .asp website. There are a few methods in the dll that just manipulate the input (which I can access error free- its how I tested the dll usage), but most make a db call to get or set or update, etc. data in the db. The dll expects an ADODB connection. The asp files are setup such as:
set DllObj = server.CreateObject("dll.class")
set connect = server.createobject("ADODB.Connection")
connect.open "SystemDSNName","user","password"
[code].....
It is using a DSN but just as easily could be a DSN-Less connection. My problem is that the dll expects the connection to be open and available to it. Can I make a ADODB database connection available and open for this dll in a vb.net asp.net website.Basically,I need to use the business logic and db data changes through this dll, but want to make the front end in asp.net.I know there is an ADODB namespace in .net somwhere and I tried using it but it was not doing the job and really, I did not quite understand how to.

I am working on a project using VS2010 SQL2008 and I saw an ODD behaviour , First let me tell you that the app runs without any problem in my developing pc (Windows Xp sp3 32bit)But when I was trying the application in another pc (Windows 7 32bit)I got this exception: A network-related or instance-specific error occured while establishing a connection to SQL server.The server was not found or was not accessible.Verfiy that the instance name is correct and that SQl server is configured to allow remote connections.
Now what is weird in this exception; Is when the application reaches the DataAdpater.Fill(dataset) line I got this exception but when the app reaches the DataAdpter.Insert(....) It runs without any problem .
And what is more weird is that I noticed that the dataset that is used in the previous insert procedure can later be filled with dataAdapter.Fill(...) procedure which it was giving me an exception before .
I tried these things as a solution:
1)Checked SQlBrowser running..
2)No aliases to Sql server at all to remove...
3)remote area connection--OK
4)TCP and UDP port 1433,1434 exception in firewall
5)Unistalled my only antivirus Norton
6)Added Tcp/IP ports in Sql protocols
7)My connection String is : onnectionString="Data Source=ALISQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=PALMSDATABASE;Integrated Security=True"
8)Also tried using Sql Server authentication (user Id and password)
what is the difference between fill and insert? My app. runs smoothly on the original pc ,What should I do?

Using VS 2005 and SQL Express 2005. This WinForm application runs fine on 5 out of 6 stand alone computers that is it installed on. The 6th computer is slightly older running XP sp2.As I understand it, using DbDataAdapter will perform the open, close and dispose functions for you. Therefore, Pooling should not be an issue. I am thinking that the default 15 second time out setting may be the cause?? There is some MultiThreading that will also use DbDataAdapters in the same manner but only 3-4 would be firing at the same time.The connection string is Data Source=(local)DataBase;Initial Catalog=Code;Integrated Security=True The command which throws the exception is If CodeDataAdapter.Fill(CodeDataSet.CodeTable) > 0 Then...So I am thinking that adding Connect Timeout = 60 to the connection string even though the 15 second default seems like a lifetime. Could this 15 seconds be eaten up if some other process or application takes over?

Error message receiving A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) The project is written in VB.Net 2008. Production server uses SQL 2008, Dev Server uses SQL 2000. The application has been built and published.
Prod Connection String: strCN = "server=SGMAGNCPQ03.;Initial Catalog=APO_Tax;Integrated Security=True"
Dev Connection String: strCN = "server=S04423711940995.;Initial Catalog=APO_Tax;Integrated Security=True"
The Problem: When I change the connect string from dev back to prod and try to run my app, I get the above error message. If I reboot everything works fine but if I switch the connect string from prod to dev and try to go back to prod, I'm back to the same problem.

My application requires a user to log in and allows them to edit a list of things. However, it seems that if the same user always logs in and out and edits the list, this user will run into a "System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Timeout expired." error. I've read a comment about it possibly caused by uncommitted transactions. And I do have one going in the application.
