Errors In Loading Files That Are Already Open / Countermeasures Have So Far Failed

In the game I'm making I have a background worker thread simulating the game and constantly outputting data to a file.I want to be able to access that file while simulation is going on. I understand that you can't access the same file simultaneously in two threads so I don't mind having the program (say on a button click) wait until the simulation isn't using the file.I can't seem to do that though! Whenever I either save or load the file I have a bolAccessingFiles variable which I check to make sure things don't happen simultaneously. I change the value to True just before opening any files and False just after closing any files.
This doesn't seem to work though. It seems as though the computer will still be using the file in some way even though the code has kept going. I need that when I next access the file I have a stronger way of checking if the file is already in use, and if so make it wait."The process cannot access the file 'C:UsersDavidDocumentsVisual Studio 2010ProjectsGameGameinx86Debugoutput.txt' because it is being used by another process."

I'm using Visual Basic Express 2010 and SQL Express 2008 in Windows XP. At first I couldn't add a datasource (the .mdf file for the database) because of a "Operating system error 32" which I seemed to have resolved by giving myself full permissions for .mdf file (by right clicking on the file and going into properties and then Security) and restarting the SQL SERVER (SQLEXPRESS) service. The dataset for the database is in my solution explorer but when I right click on a table adapter to add a query and attempt to open up the query builder, I get the error in the title above.

A need came up for me to work on a program that resides on a web server. I can't pull up the code and I get these errors:
[Code]....
In addition, you must run Visual Studio in the context of an administrator account. I have never worked on anything like this before and for right now I would just like to look at the code. I Googled and found this: You can enable these features in the Add/Remove Programs control panel. In there you wiull find a link off on the left labeled something like 'Turn Windows features on or off'. Click that and you'll get a UI for managing the IIS features that are installed.
I looked there and don't have a clue what I should check. I'm on Windows 7. What should my approach be? I don't want to just clicking things in the IIS configuration console. The attachment is what I see.

I have 1 exe and 1 dll. The dll (ClassLibrary1) file is located in the root of a website. In the dll I have a UserControl that populates with data its controls, from a database that is on a website too. The end user gets the exe file. This exe loads the dll and displays the UserControl1 on the form. This is how i load the control from inside the dll (located on the web site), on my form (exe file).
Private _dll As String = "http://www.site.com/ClassLibrary1.dll"
Private _class As String = "ClassLibrary1.UserControl1"
Private WithEvents cont As UserControl
[code]....
The error is "Request for the permission of type 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlClientPermission, System.Data, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed."Note that if i dont load the usercontrol from the web and instead have it locally, there is no problem. The data are fetched from the database (db is on the web) with no problem. The problem seems to be that the loaded assembly from the web (the usercontrol1 inside the dll) has no permission to access anything. I am not trying to access stuff from the user's pc (like file IO), but access a database located on a web server.

I created a SQL DB named MainDB.mdf and a small VB 2010 application with some forms and datasets.Everything was working OK until i got a new computer and re-installed Visual Studio 2010 and SQL server 2010 on it. I copied my DB from the old to the new computer and also copied by VB 2010 project to it. I used Windows Authentication to connect to the DB in the old computer and also in the new one, i am using different Windows user account names though.
I was able to connect to the DB in the new computer in the Server Explorer section, i created a new connection string to the DB and i can seed there is data in the tables. When i run my VB 2010 application created in the old computer get error:
"Cannot open database "MainDB" requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'D630Admin'."
I need to get rid of that error and be able to add/mod/del data from my DB using my VB application as i used to.

I am developing an application that is using a Jet database (Access 2007). The database is local to the project (e.g., on the same drive and in the project directory). Any time I attempt to access the database (to create another DataSet, etc., via designer, etc.), I get the ubiquitous "Failed to open a connection to the database" with:
No error message available, result code: E_UNEXPECTED(0x8000FFFF).
Opening the Database Explorer and attempting to attach to the database results in the above as well. There are no apparent locks on the file, etc., and I'm the sole developer for this.

I have created an application using vb.net 2008 and for reports Crystal Reports Basic for Visual Studio 2008 but the problem is, when I run the application in another machine away from developing box, I get the Load report failed notice. I don't have any idea on how I should approach this issue. I tried installing the CRRedist2008_x86 and CRRedist2005_x86 but still the problem won't go away.

I'm using MS Visual Basic 2010 Express. The project requires me to refer to a class in another file, which is all well and fine, but it tells me that "Length" is not a member of the file class "Rectangle", when it plainly is. And it's only "Length" and "GetArea", not any of the other variables I refer to. I would've tried to look it up, if I even knew what I was looking for, but this problem has stumped me! I'll add the snippet of code that I'm trying to refer to the "Length" and "GetArea" with, as well as the parts of code that those two are in the "Rectangle" file.
'displays cost of sod
Dim floor As New Rectangle
Dim dblPriceSqYd As Double
[code]....
As you can see, it's obviously there. The code for the "Width" is exactly the same as the "Length" with a few name changes. My problem here is: I can't figure out why it's having trouble calling those two, when it calls the "Width" just fine. I've tried changing around the names, and nothing seems to work.

Currently I'm working on a piece of code that involves using the Crystal Reports Viewer to export .RPT files to PDF. My problem is that the code works on literally everything except the website I'm planning to eventually put it on.
When placed on the website it throws back the error "Failed to open the connection." which I believe is connected to the SQL Server connection that's formed in order to read data for the report itself.
The code itself is solid and works when used in a separate console application I built to test it whether said code is run on my local machine or on the server itself. It even runs when I test the website in Visual Studio's virtual host.
I've narrowed it down to being some sort of permissions issue, but I am not knowledgeable enough in the various permissions settings to figure out which ones specifically apply to this situation. It's worth mentioning that other pages on the website are directly connecting to the same database, but they are doing so directly through Linq instead of going through the Crystal Report Viewer.
So does anybody know which settings I need to modify in order to fix the connection error. An added note: One of the other suggestions is to make sure there's an ODBC DNS in place that matches the one being used by the code. I have created such a DNS already.

If tring is more than one it doesn't work, it cant write to a closed bat file.

I know this idea of - if message boxes are used to display error messages inside a .dll and when the .dll is installed in a different computer (possibly a server machine), errors occurring inside that .dll will be shown in the server and not to the user. Since practically there will not be a person near the server to click 'OK' to the error message every time it occurs it will stuck the programs using the .dll.
So how to write exception handling to a .dll project?

I've taken a few vb courses a few years ago but I've been wanting to write a script that will search my harddrive(C:) for any ".dda" extention and list the location to a listbox. I eventually want the script to also copy the file to the location of the build but I can't seem to get the first part working at all. [code]A first chance exception of type 'System.UnauthorizedAccessException' occurred in mscorlib.dll.

I have a VB.NET project in Visual Studio 2008 that I created a specialized addin for. The addin prompts the user to select a database table, takes a template form class's files, copies them to another directory within the project, and renames the form class within the copied files. It then opens the new form and adds controls to it based on the fields in the database table.
The copying of the template form causes the background compiler to give 'duplicate member' errors, such as "Private Sub InitializeComponents(...) has multiple definitions with identical signatures," even though I renamed the files of the new form and the class name within them. Sometimes these errors go away before the new form is opened, but when they stick around the new form doesn't open correctly, and it throws an error instead. I implemented some code to wait until there are zero errors in the error list before trying to open the new form. This has helped sometimes, but for some reason sometimes the errors don't go away at all until the addin is closed.
How to copy the template form and rename the copy without the background compiler ever noticing duplicate members. If that's not possible, then perhaps someone has an alternative?
Here is my code that copies and renames the template form:
Private Sub CreateDataForm(ByVal tableName As String, ByVal displayName As String) ', ByVal subDataForms As IList(Of Object))
Try
Dim dataFormClassName As String = "frm" & MakeValidName(displayName)
Dim dataFormFileName As String = dataFormClassName & cVBSuffix

I have many, (15-20) different XML files that I need to load to VB.Net. They're designed as they would be in a database; they're designed in Access and bulk exported into XML files. Each file represents a different table in the database. Now, I need to load this information into VB.Net. Initially, I'd love to use DAO and access the MDB directly via queries, but this won't be possible as I'm making sure the project will be easily ported to XNA/C# down the road. (Xbox 360 cannot use MDBs, so I'd rather deal with this problem now than down the road).
So, I'm stuck now trying to figure out how to wrangle together all of these XML files together.I've tried using Factories to parse each one individually. E.g., if three XML files contain data for a 'character' class, i'd pass in an instance of Character to each XML factory and the classes would apply the necessary data.I'm trying to get past this though, as maintaining many different classes with redundant code is a pain. plus it is hard to debug as well. So I'm trying to figure out a new solution.
The only thing I can think of right now is using System.Reflection, where I parse through each member of the class/structure I'm instantiating, and then using the names of those members to read in the data from that element of the XML file. However, this makes the assumption that each member of the structure/class has a matching element in the XML file, and vice-versa.

I can't find any way of loading all files with e.g (.txt) from a specific directory: C:UsersChristianDocumentsMy Logs I use Visual Basic 2008 .NET, this is how I try to get it:
1. When the form loads it should retrieve the full path and title of the files and then put them in the List View control.
2. When the user marks one file in the list view and then clicks a button the text content should be displayed in a multi line textbox.

I've written a loading program that writes text files to our database. The text files are dumped by another system every 2 hours onto on a shared network drive at my work. Here's the problem though - the files don't have a date/time stamp within them. I've been getting the date for each file from the creation date. That works okay, but when I've written loading programs in the past, I like to move the loaded files into a folder called "Loaded Files". That way, I can quickly see visually how many files I've loaded vs how many have not be loaded.
The problem this time, is that if I were to move the file into another folder, the creation date changes...a lesson I learned when I copied all of the files into a directory on my C: for testing. They all had the same date/time stamp! My question is, what's the best way to handle this? I don't want to move the files after loading them if it alters their creation date. I mean, what if I have to go back and load one for some reason, the date will be lost forever. I also don't want to write something into the software that has to check a file each time before loading it to the database.
