So I've made a program in VB 2010, and it has three comboboxes and a button to view. Now lets say my first combobox is "Type of website". The options are "search engines", "social networking" and "news". The second combobox values would depend on what the first combobox value is selected, like if it was "news" the options would be "technology", "uk", "us", and "world".
The third combobox would then use the values in the first and second comboboxes to give even more values, for example if it was "news" and "technology" the values would be "engadget" etc. Then the view button would open the selected website in an internet browser. How would I code this?

I have a Picturebox and a two Buttons on my Form. On click of one of the buttons I want to change the image in the picture box at runtime.
This works fine when I give the location of the image (the full path ) on my computer - but then of course it will not work if I use the solution on a different computer .
So I have made a folder named "Pics" inside my application and added two images into it.
How do I get to this local folder in the following code?
Picturebox1.image = system.drawing.image.fromfile (??? )
instead of the usual,
Picturebox1.image = system.drawing.image.fromfile ("C:UsersMyName My PicturesMyPicture.jpg" )

<asp:DropDownList runat="server" ID="selCurrentManuf"></asp:DropDownList>
<asp:DropDownList runat="server" ID="selCurrentModel"></asp:DropDownList>
This is how i am currently populating selCurrentModel
Public Sub PopulateCurrentModel()
Dim mySelectQuery As String = "SELECT * FROM Model where ManufID = "+ selCurrentManuf.Text+";"
Dim myConnection As New MySqlConnection(Session("localConn"))

Does anyone know how to get the image of an open application (any open application or game)? Like the image that shows if you mouseover a program on the taskbar of Vista or Win 7.
I'll need to get a list of all open programs and retrieve an image of each, but if you only know how to get the image, then i'm sure I can resolve the rest through repeated googling.

Ive been programming in VB6 for years, i figured its time for an upgrade. Here's what im doing, and what the problem is:
Im loading a bunch of pictures on top of one image. They are all PNG files, and some of the images have transparent edges, and some semi-transparency within the image itself.
So basically, i need to be able to load these images on top of the other images, and still maintain the transparency.
Is this possible in VB08? This is one of the main reasons i moved to 08 from vb6, more things possible including multithreading.

I want to make the user be required to select an option from the list and then once the selection has been made, lock the control until either the user finishes the game or clicks the button named btnBeginAgain. How do I do this? I'm using Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition.

basically i'm making a webbrowser, and i want it to select and option from a dropdown ComboBox, on a certain button click. I use this code which i found it on these forums as well:
For Each element As HtmlElement In WebBrowser1.Document.GetElementsByTagName("select")
If element.GetAttribute("id") = "wrapper_opacity"
element.SetAttribute("value", "51")[code].....
The problem with this code is that it just inputs the selected value, but it doesn't really SELECT it.The option selected is shown, but not activated.

I created a Windows Form application that used a Webrowser control to automate the process of entering data into a website. One of the tasks included selecting a server name from a dropdown menu (SELECT tag). I was able to get a collection of all of the OPTION tags and use HTMLElement.SetAttribute("selectedIndex","indexVal ue") to select the server I needed.The website recently went through a redesign and now there are no OPTION tags. It appears that the values for the SELECT tags are added by JavaScript dynamically. I have tried using HTMLElement.SetAttribute("selectedIndex","indexVal ue") directly, but I am unable to select what I need.

I am new to vb.net and I have looked at other topics. I cannot find the answer I need. OK I have a combobox named cboRaceDesc and five checkboxes (CkRaceAfricanAmerican, ChkRaceAmerican Indian, ckRaceAsian, ckRacePacificIslander, and ckRaceWhite). I was going to post an image, but I cannot.cboRaceDesc has two options...Hispanic and Other. If the user selects Other then they have to choose one of the five checkboxes or it will raise an exception when the record is being saved. I am assuming I would generate the code under the "save" button. I know I need to gather the following information in my code:
If cboRaceDesc.SelectedValue = Other Then
<I am not sure how to code the logic regarding the checkboxes>
<I know I need to use multiple else/else if statements>
<I know towards the end I would generate the exception>
End
Can anyone help me fill in the blanks or point me in the right direction?

Why does "OPTION STRICT ON" complain about casting an Image to Bitmap. When CTYPE is not used but not the other way around?
Dim img As Image = Image.FromFile(My.Computer.FileSystem.SpecialDirectories.MyPictures & "ExampleFile.jpg")
'This is okay with OPTION STRICT ON.>>
Dim bmp As Bitmap = CType(img, Bitmap)
'OPTION STRICT ON allows this but why? >>
PictureBox1.BackgroundImage = bmp
'Why not? >>
PictureBox1.BackgroundImage = CType(bmp, Image)

I have a program written in VB.net 2003 that are folks run under alternate credentials. Inside the app there is an option to open a UNC path to a network share. We were running Windows XP SP3 and IE6. The code is simple just a call to the explorer.exe with /root,\UNCPath. After installing IE 8 onto the machine this no longer works. Best I can tell the code is still working but now being executed in non interactive mode so nothing opens up. You can however see a new spawned explorer.exe running under the system account for each attempt at opening a UNC Path. Any ideas what IE8 could have done to cause this behavior?

In the game I'm making I have a background worker thread simulating the game and constantly outputting data to a file.I want to be able to access that file while simulation is going on. I understand that you can't access the same file simultaneously in two threads so I don't mind having the program (say on a button click) wait until the simulation isn't using the file.I can't seem to do that though! Whenever I either save or load the file I have a bolAccessingFiles variable which I check to make sure things don't happen simultaneously. I change the value to True just before opening any files and False just after closing any files.
This doesn't seem to work though. It seems as though the computer will still be using the file in some way even though the code has kept going. I need that when I next access the file I have a stronger way of checking if the file is already in use, and if so make it wait."The process cannot access the file 'C:UsersDavidDocumentsVisual Studio 2010ProjectsGameGameinx86Debugoutput.txt' because it is being used by another process."

i have a problem in loading an image from a file in vb.net. I have the following code in the class of my project.
Imports System.Drawing
Imports System.Drawing.Drawing2D
Imports System.Windows.Forms
[code]....
So, now I've exactly used this code to load an image from a path specified. Still, i seem to get a blank form when i run. im quite sure about the path and the existence of the file. Also, the exact piece of code is also available at: Draw an image : Draw Image2D GraphicsVB.Net Tutorial So, now do i have to insert a picture box to se the loaded image. Its like.. ive used the graphics thing to draw the image. so i reckoned that picture box was unnecessary.

I cannot seem to get my image resources to load into PictureBox1.I can see all the images I added as resources in the solution explorer.They are a series of PNG files with names associated with countries.I am at the beginning stages of randomly changing the image that is displayed in PictureBox1, but I cannot even get the first image to load.Here is my code so far. When I click on Button2 I can see that my array returns a random country, but no image loads.I even tried typing in several of the countries names as well as the country name followed by png (e.g. chine.png) and again no image loads.
Public Class Form1
Dim randomObject As New Random()
Dim Flags() As String = {"australia", "brazil", "china", "italy", "russia", "south africa", "spain"}[code]......
