I have a combo box (named cboGrade) that includes three different options (3rd, 4th, and 5th). I want to make the user be required to select an option from the list and then once the selection has been made, lock the control until either the user finishes the game or clicks the button named btnBeginAgain. How do I do this? I'm using Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition.

How can i make a control required to put input depending on the radiobuttonlist selection?
Let me try to clarify a bit more. I got 2 radiobuttons, if one gets selected, nothing else has to be done.
But if the otherone gets selected, a textfield must have some input too.
My Visual studio does not give me the option to select a different platform, I need to select X86 , but it only gives me the option Active(Any CPU). How can i correct this. I am running on a 64 bit machine with Windows 7, is this the problem?

I created a Windows Form application that used a Webrowser control to automate the process of entering data into a website. One of the tasks included selecting a server name from a dropdown menu (SELECT tag). I was able to get a collection of all of the OPTION tags and use HTMLElement.SetAttribute("selectedIndex","indexVal ue") to select the server I needed.The website recently went through a redesign and now there are no OPTION tags. It appears that the values for the SELECT tags are added by JavaScript dynamically. I have tried using HTMLElement.SetAttribute("selectedIndex","indexVal ue") directly, but I am unable to select what I need.

View 3 RepliesSo I've made a program in VB 2010, and it has three comboboxes and a button to view. Now lets say my first combobox is "Type of website". The options are "search engines", "social networking" and "news". The second combobox values would depend on what the first combobox value is selected, like if it was "news" the options would be "technology", "uk", "us", and "world".
The third combobox would then use the values in the first and second comboboxes to give even more values, for example if it was "news" and "technology" the values would be "engadget" etc. Then the view button would open the selected website in an internet browser. How would I code this?
I have a problem when I select a portion of a string from a RichTextBox. For instance, if I have the following string: (23*6)+5 and I want to select (23*6) the "+" is also selected. I have search for a means to correct this problem, but I have not been able to find a solution.

OK I have a combobox named cboRaceDesc and five checkboxes (CkRaceAfricanAmerican, ChkRaceAmerican Indian, ckRaceAsian, ckRacePacificIslander, and ckRaceWhite). I was going to post an image, but I cannot.cboRaceDesc has two options...Hispanic and Other. If the user selects Other then they have to choose one of the five checkboxes or it will raise an exception when the record is being saved. I am assuming I would generate the code under the "save" button. I know I need to gather the following information in my code:

View 4 RepliesI'm having a problem with combo boxes. I usually use Java and it's been awhile since I used VB but I never remember having this much difficulty.My application is using an SDF file. From Data Sources, I drag the details on one of my Tables to my Form to get all of the fields. Three of them are comboboxes. Each of the three is an INT64 and each corresponds to a primary key in a different table. I click the tasks button on a combobox and for data source I select the appropriate table that has the data to go with the combobox, for display member I select the field that I want users to see, and for value member I select the primary key. Then I run a quick test and start the app, open the form, and add a new record. When I select a value from the combobox the selection won't validate because it doesn't think it's an INT64 like it should be. It seems to be using the display member as the actual value instead because if I change display member to the primary everything works great.

the combo box style 1 has both the drop down option but also a manual entry option. I need to know how to code it so that when you manually enter data, it takes that data and places it in a text message "The shipping charges for "data" is $15" displaying in a text box. I have a complex application running on IIS7 and Vista. It usually works ok but sometimes during longer processing threads/pages it seems to block(appear like there is no more wp's), but it blocks only on a single browser. Eg I have firefox open and go to a page which sleeps for 10 mins, then I hit other normal pages and these pages also seem to block. But in internet explorer the pages run really fast. This only happens for 2 minutes at then they are back to normal, the original page is still loading in the background but now those other pages are working ok.
Note, I have changed, network.http.max-connections, network.http.max-connections-per-server, network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy, network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server all to 100. Maybe I have missed some?
I am opening a bunch of excel files to read them line by line into sql at the moment - but ran into a small problem. When using something like this[code]...
if I then open the file manually, it will error the code. I put in some error protection, a try...catch block and if it errored, it will keep trying to open the file. If it opens the file, that means I closed it manually and the program will pick up from where it left off.
This isn't very successful, as other errors won't be trapped right, and the program will crash if I don't catch the errors (they cause an infinite error looping).
Is there a way to have the app/file open somehow, so if I open any other excel file, it won't open, or it will open but not error out in the program cause it's now physically open?
