When I used the Published program to Install it in my same computer it got installed in "StartMenu".
I didn't get the option to select the Drive for Installing it like what we get when installing other program.
how to make that option to appear on installing the program?

View 6 RepliesExceptions can have different degrees of impact on a program. For example a program should probably abort if OutOfMemoryException is raised, but it is possible to safely and appropriately handle System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException without putting the program in an unknown state.
I do understand that any exception has the potential to put the program in an unstable state if it is not properly handled. Are there exceptions that should never be handled beyond simply logging and throwing up the stack?
I am executing a autoit script when autoit is installed in the system by using the following code

But I need to do same by giving a path to a unzipped files instead of installing it on system. e.g My autoit path where I extracted files are z:Softwareautoit3.exe and my scripts path is "Z:Scripts est.au3".

View 2 RepliesI've just skipped around a few inbuilt VB classes' methods which throws exception. of all that i've came across, methods may throw multiple exceptions but ALL of them are exclusive, meaning there is no way 2 exceptions will ever occur simultaneously, yea and i was trying to make my class throw 2 exceptions simultaneously, hence this question, must all exceptions be exclusive?

View 4 RepliesI have several fonts I want to include in my program to be used, or just want to put them in a folder with my program, or some method of adding them to the program without having to install it on any PC that I want to use the program on.
So basically I want to Either
A. Include the fonts in the program so the program can use them
B. Find a way to have the program use the fonts without them being installed on the PC.
I could not figure out the key to installing folders/subfolders/.rtf files during deployment/installation. The key here is to 'add' folders and subfolders to the project in solution explorer, then adding existing item (.text (.rtf files in my case) files) then selecting the .rtf file in solution explorer.go to its properties and under 'Build Action' select 'Content' (very Important!). Then under 'Copy to Output' select 'Copy if newer'!Then in code to access these files you use the following code:

Finally after 3 days of research and 2 days at the msdn forum picking peoples minds (smarter than mine) and lots of prayer, I got it!

I have a class that has a method A and a helper method B, method A internally calls method B. method B throws few exceptions to the caller also method A throws it's own exceptions, Assume method A throws "NotImplementedException" and Method B throws "SQLException", in the XML of each method, one which method that should put "NotImplementedException" and "SQLException" in <exception cref></Exception >
Should i put both exceptions on the XML of method A?
I'm working on an ASP.NET web application, written using Visual Basic, and I'm trying to track down an error message that I'm getting.I'd like to get it to log the exception to a file (or the event log) so I can see it, as the error only occurs on the production server, and not on the development environment (therefore VS isn't installed on there...).
Does anyone have any thoughts as to best practice as to how to do this ?
Why is the net filled with examples like this? Why do people just chuck try catch around any expression with out the slightest thought about pre-validation?
i would never just add try catch and not handle the exception. I tell people this is basically on error resume next in disguise.
Is an exception ever unimportant to just use try catch but with out any message?I really want to progress as a programmer but have i been approaching all this wrong?

I have a sql file that i need to use with Visual Basic, im assuming i have to install it as i had to do that with a different sql file, the only difference between the sql file i have now and the other one i had is that the one i need to use with VB has only an sql file and does not have a database file that goes with it, this one is only an sql file. I have opened the file in SQL server management studio express and executed it over and over and it says (1 row(s) affected) (I have attached a screenshot) but nothing happens. If you look in the screenshot, on the left hand side you can see the "Pubs" database, that was the other sql file i had that had a database with it and it installed fine. Im really not sure what else to do with this.

I have an app that I've developed that has a vb.net front end and a SQL Server 2000 database backend. I currently have it running fine on my machine and it also installs fine on all the users that are inside the domain that the app was written in. When I try to install my application on another domain it hangs and doesn't even run the install script.
Has anyone ever experienced problems installing an app accross domains?
Is there something that I need to code differently to make it non-domain specific?

I have a SqlDataSource that is supplying data to my GridView. Thats all i am using on my form, thus i have NO code behind at all. But somewhere i need a TRY CATCH block just in case my connection get's lost. What code must i place where?
If i get a error i want my lblMessage Text to be "No connection".

I am using nettcp with TransportWithMessageCredential. I cache the proxy in the main form
