Nov 12, 2010So basically my VB project creates a text file that is readable by another console application (not made in VB). Basically what I want to do is in my program, I want it so that when you press a button, it will run all of the text files (that you made in my program) through that console app (the console app takes XML files and converts it into another format). How can I do this? In the console app, you type in the file name (ex. File.xml) and press enter and it will give you the output file. How do I "call" a console app and have it run in the background? (background as in the prompt window doesn't pop up.)

Apr 8, 2012I have a procedure at the end of my console application that ask the user to either hit enter to end the program, or type s to perform another search. The issue I'm having is no matter what the user types in the program end. What I would like to happen is if the user types s, then the program starts over and lets the user perform another search. The program is procedural and I need to find a way to start back off at the top of the program which ask the user to type a name to search.

Apr 13, 2010I am maintaining some VB.net code and I am more of a C# programmer. I have taken over maintaining several projects from people who have since left the project. The manager tells me that some of the VB.net programs are console applications. Yet in looking through the source code I am not able to distinguish wether the code is for a console application or for some other VB.net program like a VB.net windows application. Can someone tell me if there is a way to determine if a VB.net program is a console application.

Dec 15, 2011How do I get the console from closing immediatley upon opening in a Console Application program? I have all of the code written but when I run the program it pops up the console window and then immediatley exits so I am unable to read what is in the window to see if my program is operating correctly. This is the first time I've ever used a console window so I don't know where in the code I would need to put "whatever it is" I might need to put to keep the window open until closed by the user.

Aug 23, 2009It sounds confusing but it's not really. What I need is basically a way to emulate the console style text, without using a console. What I'm really doing is trying to do a matrix effect on my form background, by drawing symbols and moving them, alternating their colors (see this video for what I mean).
Is there a way to do this effectively with a timer and a draw event, with the timer calling the draw event and changing the intervals?

Nov 24, 2010We currently have +- 20 different console application developed in VS2008 and running at different scheduled intervals, all controlled by Windows schedular. The problem we have come accross is that it is becoming increasingly difficult to manage and maintain these console apps. In some instances a console app will just fail or never run to start with and this creates a lot of problems. In many cases one console app is dependant on another and if 1st one fails well...you see where this is going.
I am looking for a new solution that will help us to trace, debug and manage these console apps better. We are preferably looking for a gui front end, maybe windows app where we can set the intervals for them to sun and view some error reports if they did not run.We are port all the code for the console apps to which ever new appliocation we develop.

How To Execute Multiple Queries In An Application
Nov 17, 2010I'm building an application that will be using several (7) SQL queries, I'm wondering whats the best way to approach this since I've never built an app with this many queries in it. These queries really won't change, just the start date and end date and I have query in my first form that finds out the next available date by checking a table. What I'm wondering is if it would be better to construct these queries in my application or if it would be better to use stored procedures on my sql server to do the same thing and not have the application carry the load of the queries.
