View 5 RepliesI have an VB.Net Console Application running and I do not want it to close when the user hit the ENTER button, rather I want it to close when they type EXIT and then press ENTER. What should I do?
View 1 RepliesI have a procedure at the end of my console application that ask the user to either hit enter to end the program, or type s to perform another search. The issue I'm having is no matter what the user types in the program end. What I would like to happen is if the user types s, then the program starts over and lets the user perform another search. The program is procedural and I need to find a way to start back off at the top of the program which ask the user to type a name to search.

I am maintaining some VB.net code and I am more of a C# programmer. I have taken over maintaining several projects from people who have since left the project. The manager tells me that some of the VB.net programs are console applications. Yet in looking through the source code I am not able to distinguish wether the code is for a console application or for some other VB.net program like a VB.net windows application. Can someone tell me if there is a way to determine if a VB.net program is a console application.

format
aron quiray,A02-0001,1
zoren baybayan,A02-0002,2
constatino raguindin,A02-0003,3
this will be on your text file.first run. it will ask the user to enter Employee code which is A02-0001 - A02-0003 then
it will display
Aron Quiray
A02-0001

then input a following time that serves as the DTR of the employee for five days note:5 days here are constant. so its much easier to debug.then take note. it must be 24-hr format. 1:00 - 24:00 12:00 - 13:00 are not included on the pay.if the employee or the entered time is 8:00 time in and 17:00 time out. it will return as 8hours only. assuming that the employee has its lunchbreak.hours will going to be save in a separate file which is dtr.

View 5 RepliesI was thinking I could make a console application that would have a FileSystemWatcher - watching for a .BAT file being created in a folder - and when it sees that file it does a PROCESS.START on it. But I'm seeing that a console app doesn't continue running.
Imports System.IO
Module awcWatcher
Sub Main()
Dim fsw As New FileSystemWatcher("D:ACS DesktopAWCeportingstaging")

View 3 RepliesI have a problem where I am running a Console App to obtain some computer information on a pc. The pc has the following specs:
Windows XP Media Center Edition 2002
Service Pack 3
2 GB RAM
.NET Framework 3.5
The script runs fine on my Vista Ultimate PC. However, my friend runs it on his pc and nothing is written to the file. The directory and the file are being created, but nothing is in the file. Is there something that I am missing about XP Media Center Edition?
Here is the code:

View 5 RepliesI am new to VB; am developing my first VB program; and require some help in getting started. I wish to query information from an Active Directory server using a Visual Basic 2008 console application. I have .NET Framwork 3.5 installed and VB 2008 Express installed. Do I need to install anything else (any additional libraries or components)? Is VB 2008 Express capable of accessing information from Active Directory? Where can I find information about the classes and methods I should use query information from Active Directory?

View 2 RepliesI have a VB.Net 2008 application which creates a Winword mail merge file, then merges it into a predefined template (think form letters).Based on activities throughout the day, up to (currently) five different types of letters can be created each morning for the previous day, although not all are created every day.Working with the process on my machine, everything worked fine. When installed on a server, though, it worked once, then stopped. Using Google, I figured out that the Winword wasn't shutting down, and was staying in memory.I followed all of the advice on Google which had to do with wrdApp.Quit(),wrdApp = Nothing and GC.Collect(), even throwing in an extra wrdApp = Nothing at the very end of the app.

View 2 RepliesI am currently working on an application, where I am using a console application, that will set up the application prior to the main form is run. This is no problem I've got that all working perfectly, the only problem I have is that the console is showing while the application is running, I was wondering whether anyone knows any way in which I would be able to hide the console before it gets shown to the user.
