FAXCOMEXLib - Sending Fax - Application Hangs When Try To Cancel The Print Dialog Box
Apr 18, 2007
I have a problem when it comes to faxing html. Im currently using FAXCOMEXLib because I'm sending to a remote fax server. Sending html files causes the function ConnectedSubmit to display a print dialog box before sending the fax. The application hangs when you try to cancel the print dialog box, it seems like the ConnectedSubmit function does not return to previous line where it was called.

I'm trying to develop some code to send a fax automatically from a ASP webpage.
[code].....
Basically on my development machine (XP Pro) the fax sending works correctly via our SBS 2003 server which has the fax services installed. Now I want to upload the ASP webpage to our Windows 2003 Standard server under IIS. When I try to send faxes using this server (via the SBS2003) server I get the exception "Operation Failed".I've installed/uninstalled the Fax Service on our Windows 2003 Standard server but still the same error message.

I have a Dialog that is basically a confirmation dialog on some SQL statements. After the dialog I have an if statement: If frmRelease.ShowDialog() <> Windows.Forms.DialogResult.Cancel then.My buttons are set as DialogResult = OK and DialogResult = Cancel respectively on the dialog form.
For some reason, sometimes my button set to DialogResult = OK is returning me a DialogResult.Cancel, and causing me to skip a block of cleanup code.

How can i catch the return of say an OpenDialog/Save Dialog/Color dialog?
For example i want to know if the OK or Cancel button was pressed and use a goto statement that jumps to a section of code that exits the sub to avoid an error (especially in the case of pressing cancel when using an open dialog).

Basically on my form I have a listbox containing data. Under the listbox I want to place a button named "btn_PrintData" or something to that effect. The user will click this, the print dialog box would come up and bingo they could print the contents of the listbox.

I'm building a Dialog in Winforms. It's got the two OK and Cancel buttons that are there when you create it, which is what I want. In this dialog I also have a TextBox and a Sub (coding in VB.NET) that handles its KeyPress event. I need stuff to happen when the 'Enter' key is pressed. Now, I've done such KeyPress handling times and times again. This situation, however, is different, because as soon as 'Enter' key is pressed, the dialog automatically assumes you're pressing the 'OK' button, returns a result and closes.
In both the Designer and the actual form when running the application, the OK button is highlight, which means is has some kind of a focus (for the lack of a better term) at all times. How can I disable this feature of a dialog? When I debug my code, pressing enter does not even get to the sub handling the KeyPress event. It simply closes the dialog and returns the result, therefore I can't really step through the code and see what happens behind the scenes. To restate the question, how can I disable this functionality?

I have created my own version of word pad. When I click save on the file drop down, the save dialog box pops up, but if I click cancel then my program crashes. I am not sure what I need to do so that if I hit cancel, it will just return to my program.[code]

The following code works fine, however if the user wants to cancel out from the openfiledialog they cant they are stuck in a loop. A loop I created in case they selected the wrong type of data file they could choose again. [Code]. I really need some help seeing where and how to let the user cancel out without the program continuing. I tried some dialog.dispose code but everywhere i seem to put it it generates an error somewhere.

I have written a code to print the crystal report instead of using print button in the crystal report viewer control.(I have done this in order to keep record of printed pages.) So, now there is a print button in my form, which upon clicked will show the printer select dialog box to print the crystal report pages. Now I need to track the event when user presses the Cancel button shown in the print dialog box?

I've been tryiing to use the Print Dialog control in Visual Basic. Can someone provide me with an example on how to do this and walk me through it step by step?
In printing, I want to draw a square around the text that I am printing. I am trying to make notecards and would like to have text on one side and a word on the opposite side. I would like to put a square border around this. I have not advance to the graphics stages yet. I have in my toolbox--a control that says rectangle and circle. Can I use any of these controls to draw the box. What type of file(ex. doc or .pdf) do I store the file as if it has a graphic like this in it?
how to build a fax software through Visual Basic for Windows Vista and print to it?

Its been running in production for over a year and this is the first time I saw this behaviour. The application is a VB.NET Console Application which is triggered by MQ server. This application uses a class library which is part of the same project(Say 'abc.dll'). In production around 40+ instances of this exe are running and all of them use the some of the functions from 'abc.dll'.
Last week, we noticed that all the 40 instances were shown to be running in the task manager but they were not doing any activity. There was no exception thrown or error logged in Application logs or System logs. To frantically debug the problem, I tried isolating the problem.
With all these 40+ exes hung up, I wrote a small aplication which would use a reference to this 'a.dll', create an object of one of the classes in that dll and execute a method in there. I was printing console.writelines in between to see to which point it gets to before erroring out.
To my surprise, I found that at the point where I was creating an object of a class in 'a.dll' this sample test application would also hang just like the others. No exceptions thrown. So I killed all those applications as a last resort and then when I restarted all of them, everything worked fine.
I couldn't find any explanation for this behaviour. Since it was a critical error affecting a production system(blanking out the application for 3+ hours), I have to give a very good explanation as to why this would occur. how it can be prevented in future.
(Side note: the servers running these appilcation do not have a maintenance schedule and are supposed to be up for couple of months together.

I am writing my first application in Visual Basic Express 2008 and the program conistently hangs (Not responding in the Task Manager) midway through execution. The operating system is Windows XP Professional SP3 running on a 1.20 GHz Intel Core Duo CPU with 2 GB of RAM.
The application has very deep layers of subroutines and functions, all of which are using lots of math routines. There are no recursive routines anywhere in the program. The program creates and destroys quite a few class elements, and I have written dispose methods for all of them using IDisposable, setting all the properties to Nothing. I also use GC.Collect() to force garbide collection, and GC.WaitForPendingFinalizers(). As a result, I don't think there are any memory leaks.
I think the depth of sub and function calls are causing a stack overflow, but I'm not certain. I have tried without success to increase the stack allocation to 2 Mb using Editbin.exe after reading some forums, but nothing changed. I then searched my machine and did not find EDITBIN.EXE.When the program hangs up, the background of the forms on the screen turn to solid white and the controls are no longer visible. It looks like a window pops up but it disappears too quickly to read anything. If I view the task manager while the application is running it hangs immediately. I have not published it, I am still developing and running it out of the VB environment. The more complexity (sub and function calls) I add, the earlier the program hangs.

I have a class where I would like to call a print dialog sub within the class itself. In my class I have the
'TODO
Private Sub pdPrintTag_PrintPage(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Drawing.Printing.PrintPageEventArgs) Handles pdPrintTag.PrintPage
[code]....
I copied the sub from a form class....which I believe removes the handler, so this does not work for me. How could I get this done?

I have a weired problem. I developed a multithreaded WinForm application using VB.Net, and SQL Server 2008. The application works perfectly fine if I am using Visual Studio IDE to run the same. But, if I run the exe file created by VS the application hangs in case I lock my system and again relogin. The memory usage is same as it was before locking the system. CPU usage is also 0% or by max 2%. All threads are also exited after finishing there designated tasks. The application also uses threading but all threads are exited after there designated tasks. I confirmed this using various tools.[code]

I have created a small multithreaded application using VB.NET. There is no problem when the user manually runs this application. A problem exists when I added this application on startup. It hangs after I rebooted the system. The application is still running its thread but I can't see its GUI because its frozen. If I kill it on task manager and started again, the application works fine. What could be the possible reason/s why this application hangs when added on startup?
Imports System.Threading
Public Class USBLock
Public Event Lock()
[Code]....
or just a thought on this subject: the reason why the program hangs on startup is because the application is loaded while the .net framework service has not yet started.

I am re-posing this question because the prior post has gotten really full of side issues so I fear the main problems has been lost.I have a windows forms application written in VB.NET which scrapes information from serveral web pages? I am having problem with one particular site where partway through the page navigation my application hangs. When I press pause (or break) in the debugger, it stops on a call to System.Windows.Forms.Application.DoEvents.

I have a small project that requires me to have a font dialog, a color dialog and a print dialog. It has four text boxes that are formatted based on the font from the dialog and the color from the other dialog. I am to print it all out with the same font and color. I have easily put the font in the right place and have the rest of the print set up, but the DrawString wants Brushes.<color> for it's color. How do I make it the same color as in the text boxes? I am not trying to get you to do my HW for me, but everything I see online is the brushes or shapes... if you could suggest something to look into that would be great, but I doubt my grade would be much affected by my printing everything with Brushes.Black like everyone else in the world seems to be doing...

I have a form with a "print" toolstrip button. When I click that button I run the code shown below. The print dialog box appears. The title is dark blue seeming to indicate it has focus. The main form is lighter blue indicating it does not have focus. But hovering over the "Print" button (or the cancel button) does not cause it to change color. If you click on the print button, then the color changes and the second click causes the appropriate action. Same with the cancel button. If you click on the dialog label or on the main form the only thing that happens is the print button will then become "active" and a click there then works. If you click on the main form once, nothing happens, but if you click on it a second time you get the "bonk" sound indicating you ae clicking on the wron modal. As if this isn't strange enough, this action just started recently. I made a few unrelated (as far as I can tell) changes, and discovered this action.[code]....
