VS 2005 - Dialog Cancel Stuck In A Loop
Jan 13, 2010
The following code works fine, however if the user wants to cancel out from the openfiledialog they cant they are stuck in a loop. A loop I created in case they selected the wrong type of data file they could choose again. [Code]. I really need some help seeing where and how to let the user cancel out without the program continuing. I tried some dialog.dispose code but everywhere i seem to put it it generates an error somewhere.

I have a Dialog that is basically a confirmation dialog on some SQL statements. After the dialog I have an if statement: If frmRelease.ShowDialog() <> Windows.Forms.DialogResult.Cancel then.My buttons are set as DialogResult = OK and DialogResult = Cancel respectively on the dialog form.
For some reason, sometimes my button set to DialogResult = OK is returning me a DialogResult.Cancel, and causing me to skip a block of cleanup code.

The problem is that the code is in a loop which i'm not sure how to stop. The need the text file to read all the file extensions. So i start looping through all the files in a folder. The other problem that happens is that i also need to loop through all the files in the folder so that i can compare the string line and the string X. So the final result is that my program is in one giant loop.

How can i catch the return of say an OpenDialog/Save Dialog/Color dialog?
For example i want to know if the OK or Cancel button was pressed and use a goto statement that jumps to a section of code that exits the sub to avoid an error (especially in the case of pressing cancel when using an open dialog).

I'm building a Dialog in Winforms. It's got the two OK and Cancel buttons that are there when you create it, which is what I want. In this dialog I also have a TextBox and a Sub (coding in VB.NET) that handles its KeyPress event. I need stuff to happen when the 'Enter' key is pressed. Now, I've done such KeyPress handling times and times again. This situation, however, is different, because as soon as 'Enter' key is pressed, the dialog automatically assumes you're pressing the 'OK' button, returns a result and closes.
In both the Designer and the actual form when running the application, the OK button is highlight, which means is has some kind of a focus (for the lack of a better term) at all times. How can I disable this feature of a dialog? When I debug my code, pressing enter does not even get to the sub handling the KeyPress event. It simply closes the dialog and returns the result, therefore I can't really step through the code and see what happens behind the scenes. To restate the question, how can I disable this functionality?

I have created my own version of word pad. When I click save on the file drop down, the save dialog box pops up, but if I click cancel then my program crashes. I am not sure what I need to do so that if I hit cancel, it will just return to my program.[code]

I have a problem when it comes to faxing html. Im currently using FAXCOMEXLib because I'm sending to a remote fax server. Sending html files causes the function ConnectedSubmit to display a print dialog box before sending the fax. The application hangs when you try to cancel the print dialog box, it seems like the ConnectedSubmit function does not return to previous line where it was called.

I have an asynchronous task that is executing a function. The function does not contains any looping statements, but instead it is executing series of sql commands on sql server. Now, i have a button on my window that can cancel these sql operations. In other words, cancel the whole asynchronous task.
I know that this technique will require CancellationTokenSource and CancellationToken to cancel the task, but i've seen many examples on the internet and all of them are showing that the function that task is executing contains loop statements in which they are checking for IsCancellationRequested boolean property. But in my case, it is not so. My function does not have any loop statements in which i can do a check on this boolean property.

I just installed VS 2005 on a new laptop with Windows 7 and I can't find the option under the Debug menu called 'Exceptions'. It was available in my previous install under WinXP. I know win7 had some incompatabilities with vs2005. Is this one of them? Man, I'd hate to loose the ability to break on thrown exceptions.

I've been asked by management to convert all of my applications from VB 2005 to VB 2008 (in preparation for taking them to VB 2010). I have a VS 2005 application that uses an ADO Data adapter which was defined using the GUI. I normally define my connections in code, but have been asked to get away from that in favor of ADO (and similar) data adapters. When I run the conversion wizard in VS 2008, it appears to convert this program, with some warnings and I get the 'Conversion Completed' dialog box. However, the VS 2008, will not let me close the dialog box, even after waiting for 3 hours. The only way to get out is to reboot the system.
