Using FileVersionInfo.GetVersionInfo(path), I get what I need most of the time. All the properties are there. But... I have this one folder that most of the properties for this object are NOTHING... except the [Name] property.

I am working on a project that consists of manipulating several reports (word and excel). At the beginning of my project I set all paths to a hard string (C:users...................) using the my.settings. Worked great during developement but now its time to test on other machines. I have been toying with using Application.StartupPath but cannot figure out how to modify the app.config so I do not have to recode my forms (given it would not take long), not to sound lazy but I know there has to be a way to achieve a computer specific path to find the reports in the application directory.

This does not work as written. I figured it would be much faster. It did not write out the property data. It saved "WindowsApplication1.Customer" Not exactly what I wanted. Is there a method to get it to save the properties in a written out style by just using the class name?

I've had a good long search through the registry and found a lot of references to the adobe path probably too many - and I've edited them to try and "break" the process so I can identify which one is used to discover the path but with no luck. I'm using VB.NET in Visual Studio 2008 in a Vista 64-bit OS. I'm trying to find an easy way (there must be one) to quickly retrieve from the registry the application file name and path to use in a Shell command to open a particular file. Specifically, I want the user in my app to be able to click on a PDF file and have the app open that PDF file using the application associated with PDF file types - Acrobat Reader, for example. Anyone have any suggestions as to proper coding & syntax for the following sequence?:
(1) Get name of .exe file associated with .pdf file type (most likely from the HKey Root Classes hive)
(2) Get path for the .exe file
(3) Shell("[pathname]appname.exe filename.pdf")

I have a Access program and I'm using VBA code in the background to run Winunzip using shell command. Well, the path of the .zip file has spaces in it and it's not recongizing the path as a valid path. Is there a another way to tackle this problem besides the shell?I can't us pkzip either. View 10 RepliesI am trying to change the DWORD value in a specific registry path. It starts with the user who is entering the value in decimal into a text box. Then with the click of a button, the application takes that value and change the existing value of the DWORD to the new one typed into the text box. I think I have manage to get it to work with "strings" but I seem to get stuck when it comes to the DWORD key. I have a feeling it have something to do with the hexadecimal value which is set by default. Do I need to create a converter?

The end result I am looking for is I want to add File Paths to a CheckedListBox. I only want certain file extensions and if a file by the same name but a specific extension exsists allready then I do not want to add those files to the CheckedListBox.
Example: I am only wanting these filetypes in my CheckedListBox (.gif, .tif, .bmp, and .jpg).However if the filetype (.PNG) allready exsists with the same filename (i.e. image. png and image.jpg) I then do NOT want to add that JPG. Only files that do not allready have a PNG with the same name. (I hope I was able to make this clear)

This isn't the emails that the user has sent or received, or the contacts he/she has in his address book. Just simply the email accounts that have been accessed from the computer.I know that there are some locations stored in the registry that have the email account. I have the communication to the com port all working great, but I need to get the com port description not just the "COM#" which is all I currently get.
I found in the registry where the description is stored but am having trouble doing what I need.

there is a varied number of sub keys. The are numbered 0000-NNNN depending on how many ports you have. Inside each of these keys, there are multiple values, although I am only interested in one or 2 of them.
My problem is, that I do not know how to get a list of the subkeys (the 0000-NNNN keys/folders) from the original key I posted. I have looked through a few registry tutorials, and I can view the default value in the listed key, but I could not find how to list the subkeys of the listed key.
Does anyone have any sample code they could share that shows how I can get a listing of subkeys, and then run through those subkeys checking for a specific value in one of the strings contained in the subkey?
