I am trying to make a program that backs up folders. I want to have say 5 folders, then if it is backed up again I want the oldest of the 5 folders to be deleted and the new one placed in it.

View 14 RepliesI wrote a program in VB.NET which uses several .dlls that I programed in c++. The dlls wrap some functions from an old version of the program. On my development computer everything works fine but I build a release version, copy it and the dlls onto the target machine and the .exe starts up fine. When the program tries to use a function from the .dll it throws an exception and says "unable to load DLL "c:/the path/my.dll" the specified module can't be found."I don't know if it makes any difference, but I am defining the dll functions in the main vb project using:Declare Function MyFunction Lib "c:/the path/my.dll" (ByVal in1 as Double, ByRef out1 as Double) as Integer.I have checked the .net framework on the target and version 4 seems to be installed same as the development computer. Both are windows XP machines. I have no idea if it is the way I programmed the .dlls or just something with my vb.net project.
View 1 RepliesI (through a ton of help from everyone here at stack-o) have created a small WCF which is hosted as a Windows service using TCP..Last question for this little bugger; it's time for deployment. In my solution, there are 3 projects. One is the Windows service, another is the imported WCF, and finally a setup project I added for install.I can install/uninstall the service on my machine by going in the solution directory and finding "Setup.exe" or "Setup.msi". Executing either from explorer will install the service on my development box.Now there are a few directories associated with this solution. I'm betting that simply copying setup.exe or setup.msi to my target server and trying to run it will bomb out. How can I find out exactly which files/folder I will need to copy over for deployment?Or should I just copy the entire solution directory? That will be a little difficult for my coworkers as the setup routines are nested in directories 5 deep.

I am using nwind.mdb ms access db which is sitting in c:xyzlocaldata folder and is linked with application, i can run query and retrieve/preview data with no problem. When i run application, i get run time error >>Could not find file C:xyzlocaldatainx86Debugwind.mdb. I copied a copy of access db to this folder, i don't get error message. View 1 RepliesI've written a very simple program that writes a tiny "config.cfg" (text) file to the computer (using StreamWriter), and a second program that is supposed to read that data back.
Unfortunately, it appears you can't save to the same folder as your program under Win7 ("Program Files (x86)" is a restricted folder.) So instead, VB automatically saves my data to the "C:Users(myname)AppDataRoaming..." folder. This is annoying, but tolerable.
PROBLEM IS: How does my second app then FIND my data file (without doing a time-wasting drive search every time the program is run?)

I set the properties to embedded resource.Now when I type my.resources. ...in the list the name of that file does not come but other image files comes.I want to extract the zip file to a folder at runtime. I have a workbook from an external party (let's call it wb_Client for reference purposes) containing two embedded combo boxes. The combo boxes show up in the formula bar as =EMBED("Forms.ComboBox.1",""). It seems that these combo boxes have their own name because in the spot where you normally see the cell ID (e.g. B14), I now see names. Combo box 1 is called "cmb_Fruit", and the second combo box is called "cmb_Country". Both combo boxes have drop down lists. The first combo box has the choices "Apple", "Orange" and "Pear". The second combo box has the choices "UK", "US" and "France".
Normally, if I open wb_Client (simply by double clicking on the file) the values of the combo boxes are "Apple" and "UK" by default. Suppose that, for example, cell "B10" represents the unit price, and that this number is 0.80. Next, if I change the combo boxes to "Pear" and "US", cell "B10" updates to 0.50. And the 0.50 is what I am interested in.
I only need this process to be automated. Thus, using my own workbook and some coding, I need to open wb_Client, set the value in the drop down list of combo box 1 to "Pear" and in the drop down list of combo box 2 to "US". Maybe I need some code to update/calculate the worksheet, and then grab the value from cell "B10". So the main problem is how to set the value in the combo boxes. How do I do this?

View 3 RepliesI am embedding an xsd file into my console program so I can use it to parse XML files into a datatable which I then will parse and process into a text file and into a database. I have embedded the file and can access it by going to My.Resources.LinerTester. This will return a string, but in order to use it on the Dataset.ReadXmlSchema method I have to convert it to an XSD, otherwise I get an error saying invalid characters. How can I take the embedded resource and convert it to an XSD file? I know the XSD file works fine, if I read it from a location on the hard drive it will process the XML files into a dataset just fine, so the file itself is valid.

I am using Visual Studio 2008 Setup project. I need to copy one folder and the sub folders into the program files but when I tried to copy or add the folder to "Application Folder" in File System editor, I am able to add only files and not folders.
