Force CREATE PROC When Table In The SQL Does Not Exist Yet
Jun 7, 2011
I am converting a lot of projects from VB6 to VB.NET. Many of these projects use the DAO method CreateQueryDef, something ADO.NET does not. I know there is a way to replicate this method in ADOX using Catalogs, but I wanted to stay with pure ADO.NET. I have been using CREATE PROC to do this, but some of the query def's in the VB6 version mention tables/queries that are not created until later. For example,[code]The way the projects are, it is not possible to simply flip these two lines. I was wondering if there is a way to force CREATE PROC a AS SELECT FROM b even though b does not exist yet, or if there is a different option in ADO.NET to replicate the CreateQueryDef functionality.

I have a vb.net app using plain old ado.net to run a s'proc on the database server. The proc simply inserts a record that contains binary data.When this executes, I can see the exec call on the proc being made from within sql profiler.ado.net claims everything worked, no errors. However, a record isn't inserted. There are no key collisions or anything like that.I copied the query I saw from profiler and ran it directly within management studio. When I run it there, the record is inserted.For whatever reason, sql server and ado.net were conspiring against me. The user account I was attempting to execute the s'proc under did not have execute rights for it. After I set those rights then it was proceeding as normal.Now, the problem I have is that there should have been some type of warning, error, exception, whatever that said "hey, you can't do this" instead of simply saying "Everything is good" But that's a question for Microsoft.

I want to test if a file exist and create it if necessary.Former I did it by testing folder and file then creating it.I want now to play with "try catch" exception handling, but it seems more heavy.I had to test the file twice..... Is there a cleaner way ?

Dim tempFolder$
'check MY_LOGFILE exist if not create it

I created a function that creates a global temporary table to stage data from a excel sheet I need the table to persist for me to map the columns using a form. The table is still there when the code goes back to the sub that calls the function until I call the form where I do the mapping. I am trying to avoid create/drop table scenario with a perm stage table.How can I get this table to persist until the data gets loaded into the perm table?

I am working with a Vb.net 2005 application. On the application I have a Create table button which when clicked creates a table in Sql server with the code shown below;
Code: Private Sub BtnCrtTable_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles BtnCrtTable.Click
[Code]...
This is really a pre-defined table and the data is already specified to be inserted to the table. However, my primarily task is to read a flat file which has the data and consider the first line as the column to be column names.
Therefore, initially I created an open dialogue to browse for the text file and store the path such as E:Datafile est.txt, in a TextBox1 visible at run time. Now the task is to change the above "create table" to read the txt file (column names are on the first line) and then create the table in the database.

first of, here's what i'm using.
Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition
Oracle Database 10g Express Edition
i created a procedure stored in the oracle database create_user and accepts a few parameters...
procedure create_user
( p_user_num out tbl_users.user_num%type
,p_username in tbl_users.username%type
[Code].....
so i run the form, click the AddNew button in the BindingNavigator, enter the data in the textboxes and then click Save. i receive no error but the values of the textboxes are not being passed to my stored procedure. it is creating records but all columns are null.
i checked this by using an SQL Editor to query the table back-end.

retrieve the actual T-SQL that is to be executed by a SqlCommand object (with a CommandType of StoredProcedure) before it executes...My scenario involves optionally saving DB operations to a file or MSMQ before the command is actually executed. My assumption is that if you create a SqlCommand like the following:
Using oCommand As New SqlCommand("sp_Foo")
oCommand.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
oCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@Param1", "value1"))
oCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()
End Using
It winds up executing some T-SQL like:
EXEC sp_Foo @Param1 = 'value1'
Is that assumption correct? If so, is it possible to retrieve that actual T-SQL somehow? My goal here is to get the parsing, validation, etc. benefits of using the SqlCommand class since I'm going to be using it anyway.

I am developing an ASPX file that returns results from a SQL stored proc into a data adapter, which is then displayed in a GridView. But the problem is that the numbers do not match between the SQL stored proc and Gridview. They are close, but are off just slightly: 3 thousandths. So the SQL Stored proc gives me 0.199, but in Gridview this same value = .203. And it doesn't appear to be a rounding issue either. Also, I looked at the Gridview properties, but I didn't see anything that would be causing this. All of the values for this one column are off by the same margin.
What troubleshooting steps can u recommend? I am using VB in a VS 2008 Shell for SSRS, SSIS. Here is my code from the main ASPX file:
<%@ Page Language="VB" Debug="true" Src="../Global.vb"%>
<%@ Import Namespace="ChartDirector" %>
<%@ Import Namespace="System.Data" %>
[CODE]..................
And portions of the global.vb file:
Namespace GlobalFunctions
Public Class GlobalF
[CODE]................
I would like to debug this, but this is the shell and so I don't seem to have the debug options. I can set breakpoints, but all of the Debug functionality is greyed out. This may be because I can only create SSAS/SSIS/SSRS projects

I have a stored procedure that I need to execute from asp.net button , It takes more than 30 mins to execute.
So here I need to show a message like "In Process" while execution and disable couple of links..Once the execution is done I need to show "Last processed data and time" and enable the disabled links.
So in "In Process" stage we have to allow user to access other pages in the site.
