Passing Values From A VB App To A Stored Procedure?

Jan 6, 2011

This may not be the place to ask this, if not, you can move this post to the SQL forum but I have an application that I'm building which pulls dates from a database. The start value is stored as payPeriodStart date and I add 7 days to get the end date. What I need to know is, is it possible to store those values and pass them to a Stored Procedure? Currently my stored procedures have "static" dates in them ie:

where dateadd (n, Timestamp, '12/31/1899') - ([LoggedIn]/1000)/60/1440+1 Between '10/3/2010' and '10/10/2010'

and I'd like those values to be

Between payPeriodStartDate and payPeriodEndDate.

first of, here's what i'm using.

Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition
Oracle Database 10g Express Edition

i created a procedure stored in the oracle database create_user and accepts a few parameters...

[Code].....

so i run the form, click the AddNew button in the BindingNavigator, enter the data in the textboxes and then click Save. i receive no error but the values of the textboxes are not being passed to my stored procedure. it is creating records but all columns are null.

i checked this by using an SQL Editor to query the table back-end.

.net - View T-SQL Syntax Of A Stored Proc-based SqlCommand?

Mar 18, 2010

retrieve the actual T-SQL that is to be executed by a SqlCommand object (with a CommandType of StoredProcedure) before it executes...My scenario involves optionally saving DB operations to a file or MSMQ before the command is actually executed. My assumption is that if you create a SqlCommand like the following:

Using oCommand As New SqlCommand("sp_Foo")
oCommand.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
oCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@Param1", "value1"))
oCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()
End Using

It winds up executing some T-SQL like:

EXEC sp_Foo @Param1 = 'value1'

Is that assumption correct? If so, is it possible to retrieve that actual T-SQL somehow? My goal here is to get the parsing, validation, etc. benefits of using the SqlCommand class since I'm going to be using it anyway.

ASPX File Output Differs From SQL Stored Proc

Apr 19, 2011

<div class="body">

I am developing an ASPX file that returns results from a SQL stored proc into a data adapter, which is then displayed in a GridView. But the problem is that the numbers do not match between the SQL stored proc and Gridview. They are close, but are off just slightly: 3 thousandths. So the SQL Stored proc gives me 0.199, but in Gridview this same value = .203. And it doesn't appear to be a rounding issue either. Also, I looked at the Gridview properties, but I didn't see anything that would be causing this. All of the values for this one column are off by the same margin.

What troubleshooting steps can u recommend? I am using VB in a VS 2008 Shell for SSRS, SSIS. Here is my code from the main ASPX file:

<%@ Page Language="VB" Debug="true" Src="../Global.vb"%>
<%@ Import Namespace="ChartDirector" %>
<%@ Import Namespace="System.Data" %>

[CODE]..................

And portions of the global.vb file:

Namespace GlobalFunctions
Public Class GlobalF

[CODE]................

I would like to debug this, but this is the shell and so I don't seem to have the debug options. I can set breakpoints, but all of the Debug functionality is greyed out. This may be because I can only create SSAS/SSIS/SSRS projects

Defining A Stored Proc For Use With Dataset Using Tableadapter Wizard

things look good till I reach the Bind Commands to Existing Stored procedures page of the wizard and I select my target spproc (rpt_IPR_...) then I hit the finish button and see the message: invalid object name '#TmpResults' now the dataset seems to setup correctly but was wondering why we are getting this message and should I be concerned. The same proc in Access had no issues. [Code]

Because we where not seeing info on the spproc parms we began to suspect that the query made by the IDE to get metadata was failing and that indeed is the case. Sql Server - Converting Complex Sql Stored Proc Into Linq

Jan 24, 2011

I'm using Linq to Sql and have a stored proc that won't generate a class. The stored proc draws data from multiple tables into a flat file resultset. The amount of data returned must be as small as possible, the number of round trips to the Sql Server need to be limited, and the amount of server-side processing must be limited as this is for an ASP.NET MVC project. So, I'm trying to write a Linq to Sql Query however am struggling to both replicate and limit the data returned. Here's the stored proc that I'm trying to convert:

Passing Variables To Stored Procedure

Jan 12, 2011

I have an application that I'm building which pulls dates from a database. The start value is stored as payPeriodStart date and I add 7 days to get the end date. What I need to know is, is it possible to store those values and pass them to a Stored Procedure? Currently my stored procedures have "static" dates in them i.e.:
where dateadd (n, Timestamp, '12/31/1899') - ([LoggedIn]/1000)/60/1440+1 Between '10/3/2010' and '10/10/2010'

Here is my code for the form that will be passing the variables payPeriodStartDate and payPeriodEndDate to the stored procedure:
Code:
Private Sub Button1_Click_1(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles startpayrollButton.Click
Dim ssql As String = "select MAX(payrolldate) AS [payrolldate], " & _
"dateadd(dd, ((datediff(dd, '17530107', MAX(payrolldate))/7)*7)+7, '17530107') AS [Sunday]" & _
"from dbo.payroll" & _
[Code] .....

And lastly since I'm calling those variables payPeriodStartDate and payPeriodEndDate, I assume that my sql query will have to change as follows:
where dateadd (n, Timestamp, '12/31/1899') - ([LoggedIn]/1000)/60/1440+1 Between payPeriodStartDate and payPeriodEndDate
Is that correct?

Passing The Value Of A Readonly Radgrid Column To A Stored Procedure

Nov 4, 2009

I have a radgrid bound to a SqlDataSource that includes a hidden, readonly column that stores a pk. I want to pass the value bound to that column to a stored procedure for Updates but the default behavior when the column is readonly is not to pass the parameter to the sqlDataSource. My question is whether there is a way to pass that value without having to go into the code behind. Here is a snippet of my asp markup.

<telerik:RadGrid ID="rgEmployees" runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="False"
DataSourceID="sdsEmployees" GridLines="None" AllowAutomaticUpdates="true" AllowAutomaticDeletes="true">

If I set readonly="false" on the It works fine but then the user can edit the primary key value which is not desired. I know work arounds in code behind but is there any way to do it straight in the markup?

VB Imports System.Data.SqlClient Public Class frmMain

I have three ways of adding parameters to my query commented out above. The all seem to return 1781 records (which is all of the records) and will not filter out to what the UserName variable equals which should reduce it to 32 rows.

I use a Console.WriteLine to show that the UserName is indeed my username. But it seems to not be getting passed to the query properly. I tested the Stored Procedure before even starting in on the program, so I know it functions properly. I just don't know what I'm missing from a VB.NET perspective to get the same results into my DataTable.

SyncLock / Multithreading - Child Thread Reading The Values Of _do At The Same Time As Another Child Thread Is Reading The Values

Nov 13, 2009

I have a dictionary object (let's call it _do) I am using to cache some values for use in a multi-threaded program. I have a single controlling parent thread, with a timer function _doTimer() which can kick off child threads with a new instance of class MyThreadObject in each. My parent thread has _do as a property and with each time _doTimer() gets called, it may or may not repopulate _do depending on cacheflag settings. I pass a reference to _do to each instance of MyThreadObject and those threads at some point read the values of _do but DO NOT write to it.

What I want is to ensure that the child threads do not try and read _do whilst the parent thread is writing to it. Same thing but very slightly different -> I also don't want the parent thread to write to _do whilst the child threads are reading from it. However there is no problem with 1 child thread reading the values of _do at the same time as another child thread is reading the values - so ideally I do not want each child thread to completely lock out read access, only locking out Write access.. The code is roughly like this:

[Code]....
