Form.Show From Another Thread Hanging Form

I have a series of methods being called for my networking code. An event gets fired from the networking thread. Inside this event, which I've hooked into from a singleton class, I route messages to form level methods which they register on form load to handle certain messages they care about. Inside of these form message hooks I need to close the current form (which I was able to do) but also show a different one (which is giving me the trouble).

I have a really simple form with a button that fires a Sub I created which gathers data from ActiveDirectory and adds it to an Excel Sheet. The problem is, when I click this button the whole form hangs. So I figured the operation that gathers the data and adding it to the Excel sheet should be run in it's own thread, so that the form won't hang. Possibly it would be great to add a progressbar as well. The progressbar however is located at the Main userform that starts up once the projects is run.
I've got one MainForm.vb and one CodeFile.vb. I want most of the code in the CodeFile.vb so it's tidier.

Notice the ExportFromAD Sub I've got in the CodeFile.vb. This is what is actually doing the work. In the For each loop that adds data to the Excel is where I've put the MainForm.MyBackgroundWorker.ReportProgress(i * 10). Problem is, it doesn't actually update the label on the form. Which I find pretty weird because the form isn't really hanging or anything. Is it trying to access a different thread or something? Meaning, the form is run on it's own thread which can't be accessed from my second thread?

I'm not sure how to explain what's happening but it seems to be deadlock, i did search along the forum and actualy did find who had the same problem as i did. Unfortunatly i'm too new to this Threading and could not understand why does this deadlocks happen or how to avoid them.I'm using the following

i have a frmStatus form and a frmSearch form when i load frmSearch or make search frmStatus opens showing please wait with a picturebox and a animated gif and when the frmSearch is ready to show frmstatus hides before picture box all was well but when i added a picturebox frmstatus shows but it hangsup and the animation is still

I have a visual basic program wherein i fetch information from two textboxes format the output of the textbox in the required form and then make the output come as desired I use two arrays to read textbox 1 and 2 separately and then i use for .. next statement to perform the same action for all the lines in the textbox 1 and 2..
Both of them have equal no of lines..I have also give a progress bar in the form and assigned the max value as the number of lines and i have given the incrementation within the program for the progressbar..
When i run the program it runs quite well for certain instant of time and the progress bar also responds according .. After some interval of time the form hangs and the progressbar also hangs at that place..Later after some more time the form is back to normal and the process is in finished form with progressbar at 100%..
Is there any reason why the form hangs..If there was a major problem i must have not got the output at all but i do get the output after certain interval of time..Can this problem be solved??

How do i load the Main form of a WPF so that a seperate thread goes and gets data from the database while the form is in an apartmentstate? (drag-able / movable) I Know this is possible with opening a new window from your main form like this :

I've tried putting MyBase.ShowDialog() and .Show() and .9000+ other things The only benefit I've got out of using a seperate thread to load from the databse is i can see the screen right away (as oppose to it being a transparent box until it loads) but i cannot move it around or minimize it?is there any way to make it Movable while it loads?

I have 2 forms main_frm and copying_frm. In main_frm, there is a list view that is populated with file names. The user then clicks save and all the files in the list are copied to a folder that they choose using a folder browser dialog. When this happens, I do copying_frm.ShowDialog() to display the copying_frm. The copying_frm contains a progress bar and a cancel button. I can get the progress bar to indicate how much has been copied. But that freezes up the application. To get around this, I create a new thread (called copyingThread) that copies the files. When that thread runs though, it can't access the waitingList_lvw in main_frm. For example, in the function that the copyingThread executes, if I have this line of code: MsgBox(main_frm.waitingList_lvw.Items.Count.ToString()) the result is 0. Also, I don't get any errors and no files are copied. How do I access waitingList_lvw in main_frm from a thread called copyThread that was created in copying_frm?

I'm doing a big loop in my program and throughout the loop I'm updating the textbox in the form.
However the form "hangs" untill the loop is done. How can I keep the form visible and be able to read the updated textbox while the loop is still running? I tried Me.Update() but it didn't work. I'm sure there was something like processdata or something like that but I can't find it anymore...

I have a program that uses two forms. The program opens to the Main form, and the user can navigate to the other form from the Main form through use of a button. Here's the way I've currently written it: When the Main form loads, it declares and instantiates the other form during the load procedure. When the user presses a button, the second form is displayed by means of the ShowDialog method. On the second form, there is a Return to Main Screen button which closes the second form, bringing the user back to the Main form.
So, here's the structure of the code:

Here's my reasoning: Originally, I wrote the code so that a new instance of the second form was created every time the button was pressed. The problem was that whatever data was displayed on the second form, previously, was lost when the user returned to it a second time. Since the user would be switching back and forth between these forms, frequently, I needed that data to persist.
What is the best practice for accomplishing this:
1) Declare and instantiate the second form on program start, as I have done, and use the button simply to show the form?
2) Declare and instantiate the second form each time the button is pressed but maintain the variables on the Main form and pass them ByRef to a custom constructor for the second form? Is this even possible?
3) Something else?

I am trying to use a progressbar to show on main form and then finish when next form is loaded, I have got this code.
1. When I click on button, it must open next form, but the next form must only open when the data in my list box has been loaded from Access Databse. When I run my program, it only shows the progressbar and don't open the next form.

This was a guess, after looking at the Form.ShowDialog method in reflector.My question is, is there a managed call I can make to acheive the same result, and what does a button click do that other clicks don't?
ETA: The problem does not occur if I open the form using a key.

This is a database app where I am trying to check for possible duplicates and give the user the option to keep the new record or assign to an existing record.In form1 the user will enter data into a textbox. I use this information to build a bindingsource.filter. Then I call another form (form2.show()) to display results to user and get user response. This part all works correctly.
The problem is that as soon as form2.show() executes, I loose the contents of the textbox - and it appears that I am no longer in the bindingsource.addnew() method.

It closes the whole app.

I have a dual monitor setup on my computer. My program has multiple forms. I've designed the program to check which monitor the main form is currently on and to open the secondary forms on the current monitor. When the main form is on the primary monitor the secondary forms open as FormWindowState.Normal which is the design-time setting for the secondary forms. If the main form is on the secondary monitor and I click to open a secondary form then the secondary form is to be displayed as FormWindowState.Maximised.

So I moved the Form.Show line to after the Form.WindowState line. This works fine when the Form.Show process is very quick. The problem is that one of the secondary forms downloads some information from the internet so it takes about a second to finish the Form_Load process. When I had Form.Show first the form would not appear on screen until the Form_Load process is complete, so the delay was in the form appearing at all which is how I prefer it. With Form.Show last the form appears on screen immediately but appears mostly blank and unresponsive until the Form_Load process completes.
I would prefer that the form not appear at all until the Form_Load process is complete but I would like it to appear in an already Maximised state. Is this achieveable? It doesn't seem that complicated but I just can't figure it out.

I've come across a situation where I try to run a simple line of code in a method Dim res As DialogResult = frmOptions.ShowDialog()but nothing happens. The dialog box will not appear. If I run this method from another location in the code it executes fine (i.e. displays the form in dialog mode and code executes fine thereafter). Hence, it may be the way in which I arrive at this code that is causing my problem, but I cannot see to find what is wrong.
When I pause the debugger the line of code is highlighted in green but I can't see to step over it or into it what may cause this to happen, or what I should be looking for that might be causing the problem??
