Forms :: [2005] Form-To-Form ComboBox Item Defaulting?
Jan 18, 2011I have been creating a call management application and I am having a problem with something that I have spent weeks on trying to get working and nothing I try is working for me. My application is an MDI application written in VB.NET 2005 Professional, using .NET Framework 2.0. It uses a back end database using Microsoft SQL Server 2005.When the MDI application launches, a form is displayed to the end user asking for phone number (MaskedTextBox) and a partner name. The partner names are within a ComboBox.
When the end user types in the phone number and selects a value from within the ComboBox, s/he clicks on the start button. This then opens a second form. The phone number from the MaskedTextBox is to default in a second MaskedTextBox (this I am able to get working without issue.) The partner name selected from the ComboBox is to default on the second ComboBox. This is the part where I have been working on it for weeks and not able to get it to function.
The second form has many ComboBoxes, all of which pull down items from a particular table within the database. Some of them are editable and some are not. The ones that are editable are also auto complete Suggest/Append on the ListItems.I wrote a sub to handle the population of these ComboBoxes and also to handle if they are editable or not. All of this is working. However, my main issue is that I can't get the value on the second form to default to what ever was selected on the first form. I do not get any errors but regardless of what I do, the second form always stays as the first item in the list regardless.

Mar 31, 2009I have a combobox on a form which has data bound items, the datasource is a dataset called ShiftType that was created using the new data source wizard. The data consists of three columns ID, Name ,Description. Name is the display Member and ID is the value member. This form is called from a different form, a variable containing the shifttypeid is passed as a parameter. I am able to get this parameter across fine.
What I would like to be able to do is, match this parameter with the data in the dataset and find the row index and set that item as the selected item of the combo box. I am confused as to how to proceed with it. Also, I would like to add an extra item to the dataset apart from the items obtained from the database. This represents "NONE", i.e. so if the user doesn't want to choose a shift type they can use the None item. How do i add this without having to add a dummy value in the database.

May 25, 2012Regarding my college project. i'm working on a sales system . i have a form which consist of all the following information( item code , item name , item price , quantity of item ) which is display using a data grid . data input by user using text box and all this information will be stored in a database(sales database) i'm using ms access 2007. the grand total will be displayed in a text box . and amount paid will be input in a text box too , my major problem now is how to i create a reciept that will have all this information of the purcase. i have a reciept button . what the next step ? i dont have any idea how to get the reciept done.

to populate a combo box with the list of current process windows, however for every process that doesnt have a main window title there is a blank space, is there a way that I could tell it to not insert the item if it's mainwindowtitle field is blank?

Every line in the text file ends with "a)" or with "g)".
Now I just want to make 3 radio buttons:
- one that will allow the download in the combobox only the item ending with "g)"
- one that will allow the download in the combobox only the item ending with "a)"
- one that will allow the download in the combobox of both (I already know how to do).
How can I do so?
To download the entire list in the combobox I do:

Jun 17, 2011I am new to vb.net and I am using visual studio 2010. I have two comboboxes on a form, each combobox is set to DropDownList so that a list of items can show in the combobox, but no text is allowed to be entered.
For combobox A, if user chooses item 1, the list of combobox B should be updated accordingly. I think this is quite common on a lot of applications. But I do not know to implement it. I even do not know the keyword to search for the relevant property or event handler.

Form Closed When Use RightToLeftLayout?
May 24, 2008I am making the interface controls on my forms to go from right to left using with RightToLeftLayout and RightToLeft which I have set the properties set to true. When I run the application and I open another form on the same application that I am using, I click the button to set the form to go from right to left. I've created an MdiWindowList thing (but in the form of a toolbar with buttons, similarly to the Windows taskbar), and everything works great, but the method I have for refreshing the taskbar's windows has to be called when a child form closes. I've trying calling the method from the child's Form_Closing event, but there's a slight lag so whenever there's more than 1 window open the first one gets skipped (then the others close properly, since the taskbar is being refreshed first before the form actually closes).

Works fine the first time but after closing the form opened by the DC, if I try to open it again, throws an exception "Cannot access a disposed object".
Since I can still access any other form not previously showed I guess that the closing changes a status that allowed the form to be .Show, there is no F.Load , F.Activate after the exception doesn't seem to do anything. What should I do?

Oct 4, 2011When a sub runs, it is using up large chunks of memory on every pass. It is loading pics into a listview. The pics are 1 to 2mb each and it is consuming 30-60mb for each one. How to release the memory once I close the form. Is there anything I can do to reduce it?

Jul 1, 2009I have a checkbox on Form2 that will enable an email notification. From Form1, it tests the .Checked property of the Form2 checkbox. What is happening is that the checkbox reverts to unchecked (default at run time) each time the form is closed.
What is the best way to keep the checkbox checked once the form is closed so that it will enable the email notification?

Apr 26, 2010I have a form that contains a crystal report viewer. When I open this form, it runs a report. I am using a .LDB viewer to tell who is logged into an access database. I noticed that when this form opens, the computer logs into the database and stays logged in. Even when the form is closed, the computer is listed as "logged in". If I run the report again, it just adds another instance of that same computer logged in. Therefore, it continues to pile up logins until the application is closed.
