Forms :: Error When Trying To Check For String Format?
Jul 28, 2009
I have encountered this error Unable to cast object of type 'System.String' to type 'System.IFormatProvider'. when i try to use a "if" statement to check for a certain string format in a the text of a string.heres the code i have done:
Private Sub Button2_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnInsert.Click
Dim unit As String = txtUnit.Text
I'm trying to create an address bar, much like Google chrome's, where you can enter a url and it will navigate to it or enter just text and it will search Google etc.
I've been at this for a while Googling away, but I can't find a reasonable solution. I know I could look for things like: 'http' etc, but these come in an almost unlimited number of variations. I could also created a webbrequest to test its existence, but I think this could cause an unwanted slow down in the programs operations.
i am working on my collage project in which i have an "sensor" which detects weights.specifications : (COM1,2400,N,8)I have added two components Timer and Serialport and set the values timer duration =1000 and added a button and textbox.when user clicks on the button timer1 gets started.and in timer1 i added th code which reads the input from serial.now the problem with the code. the input which i eceive is in ASCII formats(actually some of chars are in ascii format). This is the output i m getting :- 029990so i created a string variable which stores this value.
actually i want only number from that string ex : 029990 ===> 029990 but i m unable to retrieve that.
My user wants to have textbox fields that don't have any masks but wants those text fields to reformat any text that is entered as mm/dd if it is a real date entered. They won't be using the year.
Private Sub CmbLabour1_KeyPress(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs) Handles CmbLabour1.KeyPress If Char.IsDigit(e.KeyChar) = False And Char.IsControl(e.KeyChar) = False Then e.Handled = True
Dim E_ID As Integer E_ID = Convert.ToInt16(Request.QueryString("ID"))
But when it executes, I always get a FormatException:
error: Input string was not in a correct format.
What could be causing this?i am sending value like this.
Protected Sub lnkPrint_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles lnkPrint.Click lnkPrint.Attributes.Add("onclick", "return openBadgeReportPage('" + ddEvent.DataValueField + "','" + ddType.DataValueField + "')") End Sub End Class
I have a multi-line textbox and split each of the lines. Now I am trying to use each of these lines so that I can write them to a file and center them. But there is an error that says "Input string was not in a correct format."
Here is my
Dim myParas As Object Dim Titlelines As Integer myParas = Split(TextBox4.Text, vbNewLine) Titlelines = (UBound(myParas) + 1)
I am trying to cast a string to decimal and I keep getting the above error. The problem is is there is a value in the text box, it works but if the textbox is empty, it generates this error.[code]...
I keep getting the following error: "Input String was not in correct format" and it relates to the following line of code:
objRow1 = objDataSet.Tables("tblStudent").Rows.Find(selA) I cannot grasp why this error keeps occuring. I have definately used this format (i.e. dataros = dataset.tables("tablename").rows.find(something)) elsewhere and have had no
I have a user that is receiving the following error: "Input string was not in the correct format"So I looked into the code and I can see why he is getting the error. The code is trying to execute this line:
_MyObject.LineBreaks = "0"
And the property looks like this:
Public Property LineBreaks() As Integer Get Return _MyLineBreaks
[code]....
Now, I immediately see that this old code is trying to set a string into an Integer and the old programmer was not using Option Strict, so he didn't notice this, BUT the problem has only happened one 1 user's PC. Running from the IDE works fine as well as installing the application other PCs. The code is executed every time the application runs, but yet only one person has reported the issue. Why would one PC baulk at this, but not the VS IDE or any other PC so far? Is there some system setting that determines how type conversion is handled? I need to get this user up and running.
The reason this is being done is at this point we have no idea what the column contains. However, if the formatter is "{0:MM/dd/yyyy}" and the DataRow("ColumnINeed") is an integer containing 42, String.Format is returning: MM/dd/yyyy In this situation I need it to throw an exception instead of returning nonsense. Is there anyway to make String.Format throw an exception if the object does not match what the format string is expecting?
So I need a format string to pass to String.Format that would "move" the decimal point.I can't perform any math operations before doing the String.Format, so it has to work right off the bat.Basically I'm emulating a formatting string from a proprietary server. In it if I say:
"MR2"
for the value:
12345
The result is:
123.45
I'm close with this, but it's not spot on:
String.Format("{0:#0.##}", 12345)
an extra, but not necessary... there is also MR2Z, which moves the decimal 2 left, but if the value is 0 "" is returned.
i am using DateTimePicker control....my code is TextBox2.text=DateTimePicker1.Text.......while changing it correctly dispaly the selected date in textbox......the problem is i want to store the date in my database of field datetime type........when i click the add button it shows "Syntax Error Converting DateTime from String"
I need to take a string formatted like '010711' (DDMMYY) and put it into format '01-Jul-11'. Ive thought about doing something like string.toArray and then having some conditionals that format from there but am looking for an easier way.
I am trying to bind a textbox to a binding source (using the IDE DataBindings Editor) and it works fine except for one thing: if I delete the text I get the subject error. What I want to happen is the datarecord field be updated to a dbnull value -- how do I get that to happen?
If it is 2:00 PM I want to return the hour as a single digit. I'm in VB.net in visual studio 2010. I can not get the hour to return a single digit '2'.
Error "Input string was not in the correct format" Now.ToString("h") Error "Input string was not in the correct format" Now.ToString("H") Retruns 02 'Now.ToString("hh")
I wanna perform a function like this. When you save a record, I need the primary key of that record to be auto-generated (X001). Say, when you create a new record and save it, it should be saved like X002 automatically. So to test this before I implement that on this project I'm working on, I created this little program.form.png
All its supposed to do is, when you click on the OK button it shows a code that is fetched from a database table. (X001). Then when you click on it ober and over again. The number should increase. X002, X003, X004... so on.Here's my code
Imports System.Data.SqlClient Public Class Form1 Private Sub btnOK_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnOK.Click[code]....
But when I run it, it throws this conversion error.exception error.png.I know its pretty straight forward so I tried to correct it with what I know
with this code dont know wht its not working source = wc.DownloadString(String.Format("http://" & cboHSearch & "/cse?cx=013269018370076798483:gg7jrrhpsy4&cof=FORID:1&q=" + cboEngine.Text + "&sa=Search", Me.cboEngine.Text.Replace(" "c, "+"c), resultCounter))
I have a field that I display via: String.Format({0:c},amount) This produces the string "$28.28" However, when I try to convert back to a decimal amount, I get an incorrect format exception: amount = Decimal.Parse(amount.Text, NumberStyles.Currency) I also tried it with NumberStyles.AllowCurrencySymbol with the same results. I verified that the value in amount.Text is "$28.28". Am I missing something? Shouldn't these two operations use the same currency symbol and formats?
I'm trying to create a print function with a corresponding print preview. For some reason, any string I create with String.Format will NOT show up on the print preview! Use the code snippet below as an example:
Dim strTemp As String strTemp = String.Format("{0, 210} {1, 75} {2, 51} {3, 200} ", "NAME", "PRICE", "QUANTITY", "DESCRIPTION")
rs2.Fields("Field29").Value has values like "YYYYMMDD" in a string.how can i convert a "YYYYMMDD" string to a needed date format like 'dd mmm yy' (or any format)
